Official Dauntless FAQ (Updated May 2017)

Dauntless is a co-op, action RPG. Discover a shattered world, forge powerful weapons, and hunt the ferocious behemoths threatening our survival.

Dauntless will be coming PC in 2017.

When can I play Dauntless?

We are currently operating the Dauntless Tech Alpha.

Once the Tech Alpha has shown us that the game is stable, we will open the Dauntless Founder's Alpha to players who have purchased Founder's Packs.

After this test, we will go into the Dauntless Closed Beta this summer.

Dauntless will then go into Open Beta this Fall.

Will Dauntless be coming to consoles?

We're not currently planning a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Switch version of Dauntless — but never say never!

Will Dauntless support controllers?

Yes. Dauntless will natively support many controllers, including the Xbox 360 and Xbox One gamepads.

What are the systems requirements for Dauntless?

Minimum Spec:

  • Card: 660Ti (DX11)

  • CPU: i5 SandyBridge

  • RAM: 4GB

  • OS: Windows 7 DX11 Support

  • Target Performance: 720p, Low Settings

Recommended Spec:

  • Card: GTX 970 (DX11)

  • CPU: i7 Haswell

  • RAM: 8GB

  • OS: Windows 10

  • Target Performance: 1080p, High Settings

Will there be Dauntless servers outside of North America?

Yes. We're comitted to creating a great experience for slayers around the world, including Europe, Asia, and Australia. To this end, we'll have servers to support players wherever they are.

What is Ramsgate

Ramsgate is the social center where you meet fellow slayers, enhance and craft gear, select missions, and interact with other slayers. It's a living, breathing place that we know you'll love spending time in.

Will Dauntless have a story/lore?

Yes! Absolutely! The Shattered Isles is a living, breathing place with a history and a future that you will help shape!

Will I make my own character?

Yes! You'll start be creating your Slayer from scratch. From there, you'll change their abilities by crafting weapons and armour.

Does Dauntless have classes?

Dauntless does not feature a traditional "class system.

Instead, each weapon will have its own unique attacks, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.

We want players to be able to approach each situation dynamically by changing their loadout without locking anyone into a rigid role.

Will Dauntless have crafting?

Yes! You can read the first crafting blog for a broad idea of how crafting will work. More details to come.

What weapons and armour will be available?

We're still planning to announce many more weapons and armor options, but you can get your first taste in this blog post.

Will there be a ranged weapon?

Yes. We are planning to have at least one ranged weapon.

Will there be one continuous world, or will Dauntless use instances?

You will form your group of slayers in Ramsgate and then head off to one of the many, many islands. The islands are pretty good in size and the terrain is varied. To give you an idea of size, the flare seen in the trailer is used to signal your location to other slayers if you split up.

Are islands split into smaller areas?

Islands are "seamless". You will not need to load between areas.

Will there be friendly fire?

No.

Will there be smaller behemoths on islands?

While we are working on multi-behemoth encounters, we are not plannign to have smaller or lesser version of behemoths roaming around. However, there are smaller creatures (like rams!) roaming around that you can interact with.

Will there be named behemoths?

There are, in fact, rumours of especially terrifying and deadly behemoths that carry their own legends...

Will there be larger behemoths for parties larger than four?

We're committed to making making 4-player enoucnters as fun as we can. We make explore larger encounters in the future, but four slayers is the maximum at launch.

Will Dauntless have PvP?

Dauntless will not have PvP at launch, but we are looking into these elements for the future. Let us know what you think!

Will Dauntless have guilds/clans?

Yes! You can learn more about how guilds will function in this blog post.

Will there be a leaderboard or similar feature?

Some of our favorite memories in gaming involve cooperative competition and we want to bring those experiences to Dauntless. We're experimenting with the best way to do that. If it's leaderboards, then we will pursue that.

Will there be trading?

No. For many reasons, the least of which is that we really want players to OWN their own victories. Much like we're against "pay for power", we want players' presentation to reflect their experiences.

Will there be pets?

We are not planning on having combat-enabled pets at launch.

Will there be cooking?

Probably not at launch. We have a lot of dedicated cooks and gourmands in the studio, though, so don't be surprised if making tasty treats becomes a part of Dauntless in the future.

Can armour be modified or tweaked?

Slayers can tweak what their armour and equipment does with different armour sets — mixing and matching abilities.. We'll have more information about this soon!

Will Dauntless feature arts/mounting?

We want to nail down the core of Dauntless combat before moving onto systems like mounting, etc. Combat will be fast, visceral, and satisfying -- and there will be ways to differentiate your combat style with different weapon special attacks.

Will there be new weapons and behemoths after launch?

Yes, One of the great things about being a free to play game is that we will continue to add more content, including weapons, after the game is released without needing to wait for large "expansion packs"

Trying to decide between a few 15'' computers. USA, $1500 budget

  • Total budget and country of purchase: My budget is $1500, although I could consider a little more if the gain in terms of hardware and functionality is well worth it. In the U.S.

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I guess a little of each. Battery life and specifications are most important, but I am looking at several 2 in 1's, so that feature would be a bonus, especially if there is pen support.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? I will carry it with me in my backpack all day, so it is pretty important. I would say up to 5 pounds and 1'' for a general guideline

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows, will not need to purchase

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Around 15'', no smaller than 14''

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Will be using this laptop for AutoCAD. Gaming isn't necessary, but would be a plus if it runs games well. I don't game a lot, but would play games like battlefield and overwatch if it is able to run them. If not, it's okay. I mostly play casually on friends' Xbox's and after college I'll just get my own if my computer can't handle games. (sorry if xbox gaming is a sin around here)

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Battlefield 1 and overwatch would likely be the two games I would play, as well as future iterations of these. In my mind, if the games don't run at medium-high settings, or whatever looks good to a casual gamer, it's probably not worth it for me.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Build quality is high on the list. As far as touch screen, if I can use a pen (well) to take notes, draw dumb pictures, and other pen stuff, then yes. But otherwise I've found I just don't really use the touch screen on my current laptop and wouldn't be sad to see it go. Don't want the wasted space of an optical drive. Finger print reader; take it or leave it.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. A couple other things I want are a USB-C port just to try and be at least a little future-proof, HDMI because I often plug my computer into TV's and projectors, and SSD because I prefer the speed and don't need the storage that much. I have felt very burned by Lenovo because of my Y50 that I bought 3 years ago and has had to have 3 hinge/lid replacements, which is just getting ridiculous at a couple hundred dollars per repair as well as less than zero help from Lenovo customer service. This is why I'm very wary of the Yoga 720 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-yoga-720-2-in-1-15-6-4k-ultra-hd-touch-screen-laptop-intel-quad-core-i7-16gb-memory-512gb-ssd-platinum-silver/5722755.p?skuId=5722755) which is, on paper, pretty much exactly what I'm looking for (quad core i7, 512 SSD, 16gb ram, 1050 gpu, 2 in 1 with pen). I also like the HP spectre x360 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-spectre-x360-2-in-1-15-6-4k-ultra-hd-touch-screen-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-512gb-solid-state-drive/5712363.p?skuId=5712363), although the drawbacks are the dual core i7 and 940MX, which would probably help for AutoCAD but would (I'm assuming) not really work for gaming, especially not a year or two down the road. I have also looked at the MSI GS63 and its variants, although I have read that certain models have bad screens (see false high-res sidebar on this subreddit), which I think is why the model at best buy, which is towards the top of my price range (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-1tb-hard-drive-256gb-solid-state-drive-aluminum-black/5712735.p?skuId=5712735) seems cheaper than from other dealers. While I like the hardware, I would like to hear more about people's experiences with any functionality drawbacks of a more gaming specific laptop (battery life and mobility being a few prime concerns). I am also strongly considering the Asus UX550 (https://www.engadget.com/2017/05/29/zenbook-pro-ux550-4k-touchscreen-kaby-lake/) , which is supposed to come out this summer and seems to have everything I'm looking for, although I'm not sure if I should be wary of pre-ordering or buying it right when it comes out before they can make any necessary fixes, and I need a new laptop by august at the latest. I know I want it all; portability, battery life, performance, graphics and processing capability, and general ease of use, and it isn't really realistic to expect everything to be perfect in my price range, so I would appreciate any feedback about where I should be making concessions and where I should stick to my guns, as well as any specific reviews or thoughts on any of the above mentioned laptops. Thanks in advance.

Best 32' 1080p TV for under $250?

I've seen the stickied post but it's no help for a small 1080p tv on a budget. Looking for a decent TV for my Xbox One on a $250 budget. This is all I could find https://goo.gl/pd21Z0. Right now I am choosing between the two Vizio tvs unless I find a better option.

Also I've seen some say the the difference between 1080p and 720p is not noticeable on a 32 inch screen. Is this true because it seems like bull to me.

Lenovo Yoga 720 good for gaming?

Hi Reddit! I'm looking for a laptop for college and I thought I had narrowed down my search to the Lenovo Yoga 720 15" model. I thought it had everything I need until I saw the Asus announcement...

Here's the yoga if you want to see specs: http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/yoga/700-series/Yoga-720-15/p/88YG7000828#tab-customize. I'm going for the most high end model with the i7 and 1tb SSD I want a laptop that at LEAST has a touch screen with some sort of pen support (doesn't have to be an amazing pen; just well enough to take notes). I would prefer a 2-in-1 design so I could lay it flat if needed. I want to be able to annotate or write notes on the laptop.

My next requirement is a gaming laptop, and this is where I ran into my issue of "is this really the right laptop for me". It has a gtx 1050 (non ti) with 2gb of vram. While I think this should be good enough for now, I'm concerned about 3 or 4 years from now when this is an old card and I'm trying to run the latest games (I'm switching from an Xbox to PC gaming so pardon my lack of knowledge on the subject). Since there really isn't any other laptop with a 1050 that's close to the portability and price of the Lenovo, I figured I'd have to deal with it. Then just a couple days ago, Asus announces their new Zenbook pro with a 1050 ti and a touchscreen UHD display.

What makes me really want the 1050 ti over the 1050 is this excellent video by Dave2D: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEb0mWN5-gE. It seems like the ti is a fairly significant upgrade over the 1050 if you have the option.

Additionally, the fact that the Asus has two USB-C ports that use all 4 Thunderbolt lanes is very desirable. This is opposed to the one 2-lane USB-C Thunderbolt port on the Lenovo.

I'm looking for anyone with experience gaming or someone with experience with the Lenovo to give suggestions as to whether the 1050 ti is going to be worth it, and whether or not having a 2-in-1 is going to be more helpful for college. Also, I don't know much about either display (other than the fact that they're both UHD and IPS), and I'd consider myself to be rather picky when it comes to displays so that's also rather important to me. I'm willing to spend more money for the Zenbook if it's going to be worth it. Also, I don't know when the Zenbook will be released but if the upgrade is worth it, I'd also be willing to wait it out. Thanks for your help!

College Laptop for school and gaming (Lenovo Yoga 720 15" or Asus Zenbook Pro UX550)

Detailed explanation of what I’m looking for below. I’m debating between two laptops, but I’m open to suggestions.

  • Total budget and country of purchase: No more than around $2,000. United States.

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Specs and 2-in-1 come first. More explained below.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? I don’t want a “gaming laptop” sized laptop. I want something portable enough to carry with me but overall size doesn’t matter so long as it’s not more than a 15 inch display

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13 or 15 inch

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Possibly some CAD, Adobe suite for photo and video editing (Premiere, AE, Photoshop, LR), and most likely the latest games (FPS games, GTA, Overwatch).

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I want to play a lot of AAA games in addition to some lighter yet popular ones. Things like GTA, Overwatch, COD, in addition to GMod, League, etc.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I’m pretty picky when it comes to a keyboard and touchpad, my only requirement being that it is enjoyable to use and works very well. No optical drive, but a finger print reader would be preferred.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Lenovo Yoga 720 good enough for gaming? Or should I wait?

How many games run at 60 fps?

I can barely find any info on this. I found a thread or two on this sub and on some forums. I heard a lot of racing games like forza run at 60fps (Which is actually kind of amusing since the newest xbox can only play the newest version of forza at 30 fps). Would also love to know if Midtown Madness 3 ran at 60 fps. Maybe we as sub could make a wiki on what games run at 60 fps. Some action/fighting games also run at 60 fps. Like panzer dragoon for example.

Regarding the forum post, apparently the games developed in the 6th gen era were mostly targeted to be run at 60 fps. Not like nowadays where the games are aimed for 30 fps and mostly don't even run in 1080p (Considering that even some og xbox games ran at 1080i and 720p).

Also what cables support 60 fps? I am guessing the official Microsoft Composite cables will do fine.

Any info on this would be amazing. Maybe you can recommend me some 60 fps games ;)

Standings will be regularly updated here until the event deadline.

Results not final until event deadline, after entries are verified via one of the methods listed in Rule #2 below.

3 Simple Rules:

1. Drive your own new clean/valid lap for this event in Time Trial mode. No old lap records previously set. No in-game penalties (for example: off-track corner-cutting, etc.). No cheats/hacks/mods, etc.

2. Post your fastest clean lap time here on this thread as a top-level comment with any of the following for confirmation:
• a link to a publicly accessible video or screenshot including your entire pause screen from your Time Trial session with a clear view of your best clean lap time (please trim video duration to include only your fastest clean lap)
or, players on PC/Steam can just provide their username as it appears on the Project CARS official in-game PC leaderboard for this car+track combo.

3. "Be excellent to each other." Be nice to fellow participants and keep the atmosphere fun & inclusive for all. Obey Wheaton's Law.

All are welcome & encouraged to participate as long as you follow those 3 simple rules.

• any platform (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

• as many attempts as you want before the event deadline

Don't be shy - just do your best and enjoy yourself! It doesn't matter if you're wicked fast, or if you're new to the game, or anywhere in between. It's all in good fun. :)

I ran my initial entry (01:44.787) in the default tuning setup with no assists on PC/Steam using a ThrustMaster T150 wheel. I may try to shave some time off my lap before this event's deadline. I know the car can go quite a bit faster with a decent custom tune and/or a better driver than me. :)

Good luck & have fun!

Question about elgato game capture HD!

So I am planning on building a streaming PC/ LAN PARTY PC that would help me stream 720@30. I currently own an Elgato Game Capture HD that I used back in my xbox days. My question is if I used this capture card between my PC and my streaming PC would I get decent looking video? Good enough to stream. I ask this because I have no idea about the quality of the capture card and if at all possible I'd like to avoid dropping 200 on a new one for the purposes for streaming at 720@30. Thanks! Also the PC I am planning to build is this

HOWTO get rid of the music video in GH:TV

I was thinking about this earlier, but then I saw also Jason Paradise talking about this on his GH:L stream, so I finally decided to make some experiments...

I was doing this, because my laptop is too low end to handle any streaming software to include overlay, etc. I can only stream unedited stream from my AverMedia LGP Lite.

Video example: https://youtu.be/LvMRxXg7I6o?t=20

First of all, here is what worked for me:

In my router (running Tomato firmware) in the "Access Restriction" section I created a new restriction, applied only to my Xbox's IP (192.168.1.86), scheduled for every day, which blocks HTTP requests with ".webm" in URL.

But keep in mind this blocks EVERY request with ".webm" in it, so it might block some video in some other game / application in your Xbox.

If your router supports wildcard blocking, the URL looks like this: http://cdn-ghtv.guitarhero.com/assets/tracks/1856/video/v1/r38055/webm/720_0036.webm?eclipseps3=148262...

So you could build your regexp to block something like: http://cdn-ghtv.guitarhero.com/assets/tracks/(.*)/video/v1/(.*)/webm/(.*).webm, I'm not "regexp kinda guy", so you're on your own here.

screen: http://i.imgur.com/a8FPYoF.png

What are the other possibilities? There is few I can think of...

Lower the bandwidth from GH:TV server to your Xbox, so the game can't download the video stream. I tried this with my Xbox setup to use max. 512 / 512 kbps, but the music video occasionally flashes for a few seconds and the leaderboard showed only 2 players, instead of 10.

I wasn't able to apply traffic shaping to/from only specific IP (GHTV server), so I was also slowing down whole Xbox (Live, etc.).

Another one...

Apply QoS. Almost same as above, but by applying QoS on GH:TV IP (and/or protocol).

I didn't tried this, because I think it is a little bit overkill, if you don't have QoS already set up.

And another one...

Block / slowdown GVSP protocol traffic coming (from IP 185.34.107.217 in my case) to your Xbox. I wasn't able to try this, my router does not support this particular protocol in settings.

Sorry this isn't a step by step guide. Every persons' router is different, also the IP addresses of GH:TV might be different. Also this is applicable to other consoles as well!

Mixer appreciation post.

You might think this has absolutely nothing to do with FIFA, or this should be in /r/Cooking, but trust me its relevant.

If you're on Xbox and you're looking to stream FUT Champs or other FIFA game modes or just anything really, it's a really good place to start with. I used to stream on Twitch, and the quality there was horrible, lots of lag, which made it unbearable, as my upload speed isn't that great. I tried Mixer, the streaming app made by Microsoft specifically for Xbox and Windows, and got a surprisingly really good quality, around 720 or 1080p.

Really underrated streaming website, just wanted to give you guys a shout about it, I find it much better than Twitch.

IF EVER, you wanted an example of how good the quality is, go to my past broadcasts here: http://www.mixer.com/xT21x

Thanks lads!

First time builder. Need opinions on my pc part list.

Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

Yes.

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Gaming, video editing, and coding as a hobby.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

Provide any additional details you wish below.

Finally trying to upgrade from a simple laptop (plays skyrim at 720p 20fps min settings lol). I would like the option to play new games at 1080p 60fps high, however most games that I currently own o steam will probably not be so demanding(TES IV and V, KSP). However I am very interested in trying out Star Citizen and would love the option to get games for PC instead of Xbox One (Ex. Destiny 2 and possibly Halo 6). I decided on 16GB of RAM for Web browsing but I don't know if that is overkill. I am willing to wait until the holiday season because as I understand AMD and Nvidia should have announced/release Vega and Volta by then.

Reasons I believe the PS4 Portable will be at E3.

It appears Sony is going to give it another handhelds another shot. This time it will truly be a console on the go. I suspect it will have a 6" screen that displays PS4 games slightly downscaled at 720p. In the past the PSP and PSVita didn't appeal to PlayStation fans because by buying one of those consoles we had to sacrifice graphics and controls(L2,R2, L3, R3 or the right analogy stick) mobile technology has caught up PS4. Also releasing info about the PS4P at E3 would undercut press about the Xbox Scorpio , and it would target the Switch by saying hey you can play all your favorite 3rd party games games on the go. Most of my reasoning comes from the video listed below.

  1. There have been numerous rumors that Sony will release new hardware at E3. Everyone assumed PS5, I suspect PS4P.

  2. One of the developers for Destiny 2 said it Destiny 2 will be fully optimized on the "next" PS4.

  3. All my other reasons are included in the video, give it a watch and you might be convinced. https://youtu.be/GjSG2vr-Yk8

Specific Space to fit, need best options available

So, I need a TV that with the stand can fit a 26" wide by 17.5" high space. It's primarily used for gaming and streaming Netflix through Xbox but watching sports on it is also a thing. Everything I've found seems to cap out at 720p and/or has a significant input delay. Price on it is no limit to be honest - the size limit means it will be within my budget.

The model I've been looking at is a Samsung UN28H4500 but I've been reading that it has a delay that doesn't change whether you have it on gamemode or not.

Any suggestions?

Today in Scottish History

The 25th May 1847 saw the birth of John Alexander Dowie, the Scots-born religious leader. Dowie, a highly controversial but charismatic faith healer, founded the Christian Catholic Church at Zion, Illinois, where around 5,000 followers created a unique community and followed his teaching. This included a belief in the power of prayer in the healing of disease: Zion existed without any doctors or pharmacists. Smoking, drinking and the eating of pork were banned. Dowie, the self-proclaimed apostle Elijah the Restorer, was expelled from the Church in 1905 after he had become increasingly eccentric, and the community fell into financial ruin. He died a year later.

On 25 May 1967, Celtic become the first British football club to win the European Cup. The Glasgow side, managed by Jock Stein, picked up the trophy by defeating Inter Milan 2-1 in Lisbon. After falling behind to a first half penalty, Celtic fought back through goals from Tommy Gemmell and Stevie Chalmers. The winning team was made up of eleven Scots, all born within a thirty mile radius of Glasgow.

Question regarding monitor and inputs OTHER than a PC

So, bit of a noob in the monitor market.

For perspective, my laptop currently plugs into a 32" LED TV at 720p @60hz via hdmi.

Also plugged into said Tv, via a hdmi splitter, is my PS4, Xbox, and Roku.

So heres my question, if I were to get a 34" UW 1080P monitor that has 2 hdmi ports, can the second hdmi port be used for things besides a computer? Like the PS4, or roku.

This stems from me finding a 34" Ultra wide 1080 monitor for $300 new. But it has no DP, and 2 hdmis. Im fine with 1080 for now as that's whats in my budget, long term ill upgrade and pass the monitor down.

I imagine this is probably a dumb ass question, and common sense dictates it should with no problem.

Turn on the PS4 and change input, blamo.

However, I wanted to confirm with your fine people as I have ZERO direct experience with monitors since the late 90s and my ancient CRT monitor.

Any guidance, and sources, would be appreciated.

Also, my research tells me that hdmi 1.4 will push 2560x1080 @ 60, but other sources say no. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks

Ps. please be gentle.

Why does the Bob Ross background look terrible on Xbox?

Title, it looks like someone put a 720x480 jpeg into the game file where I'm supposed to see a 1240x1080 image.

Meant to take a screenshot but I captured a video instead (watch it in full screen). Look at the mountains and trees. I get it's supposed to look like the top right image, not the bottom left with its compression and distortion.

Advice on computer specs to broadcast to Twitch.

First of all this is not about the specs for a gaming computer. I'm wanting to broadcast my gameplay from the Xbox One Console to a PC. I will then use the Xbox One App on the PC to stream the gameplay over from my Xbox One, i will then use OBS to capture the window. Then upload to Twitch.

I will NOT be playing games from the PC only uploading the Xbox One stream. Can someone tell me how low in specs you can go for a PC that can handle this but at the same time not cause lag, slowness, high CPU usage or other issues that would put viewers off your stream.

I have a upload of 18.58Mbps and hope to stream in 720p. Thanks in advance everyone.

Very Basic Machine for Living Room Gaming

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

I would like to build a very basic Steam Machine to run my SteamOS games and stream my Windows games to my TV. I don't play very many contemporary AAA games, so the system can be very basic. I would like to be able to replicate this Alienware Steam Machine but with better capability for upgrades: https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-Machine-Console-NVIDIA-GeForce/dp/B016IH067A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1495479384&sr=8-2&keywords=alienware+steam+machine

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

$350

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

If it can meet my budget I will purchase the parts within the next two weeks.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

  • Case
  • GPU
  • CPU
  • Hard drive
  • Motherboard
  • power supply

I will use SteamOS because it is free and I have a ton of games for it already. I have an Xbox360 controller already.

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

Indiana, US. No Microcenter nearby.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

Xbox360 control. 720p TV as monitor.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

I'm not interested in overclocking.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

I'd like to meet all the specs of the above linked Alienware and possibility do better (bigger HDD for example)

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

I would prefer something compact and would easily fit on most entertainment centers.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

No, using StreamOS

UHD stream from the TV app poor quality?

I have an LG 4k tv with hdr. I was eager to test it out with the amazon prime app and noticed the quality is poor. During the first minute of streaming it'll slowly go from standard quality to 1080p then to UHD which is understandable but once in UHD it simply looks like 720p.

I have an xbox one (not the one s) connected and decided to open amazon through there at the same time. It does not stream in 4k but it does in 1080p and I was amazed, like looking at 1080p for the first time again. There has to be something wrong with the 4k on the app, anyone encountered this problem and know what to do?

Nintendo Switch SoC compute power

I've seen this discussion and misconceptions on Nintendo Switch's power far too often on this subreddit, so I thought it was time to lay out the facts.

Nintendo Switch's SoC is a stock Nvidia Tegra X1. No silicon-level customization, but there is probably some firmware customization (won't magically give it more power, but might make it more efficient). The clock speeds are known to be 768-921 MHz in docked mode and 307.2-384 MHz in portable mode, base/boost clock speeds. TX1's performance is well-known, so with those clock speeds, that puts Switch's compute power at 393-471 / 157-196 GFLOPs base/boost docked/undocked.

For comparison, the Wii U benchmarked close to 172 GFLOPs, but with specific custom features that helped it do a few things a little beyond that specification. Xbox One pulls 1300 GFLOPs and PlayStation 4 pulls 1800 GFLOPs.

When using common graphics APIs, Nvidia GPUs are known to pull 25%-50% better performance per FLOP than AMD GPUs, so a better levelized comparision against Xbox One puts Switch at about 50% of its performance when you adjust for Nvidia vs. AMD.

In docked mode, it could theoretically play Xbox One's 1080p titles in 720p when docked, 480p handheld, but given that most Xbox One multiplats run at 900p it's more likely that a fair bit more work would have to go into it than just scaling down the resolution. (Not to mention how many devs might scoff at 480p anything).

Need advice on a sub $40 GPU.

I sold my GTX 970, which I'm regretting, but I never played many high graphic games on PC anyways. So now I'm using my integrated Intel HD 3000, and even 2D games run like snot.

I went from a ATI Radeon HD 5770 to an AT Radeon HD 7850, to the GTX 970.

I loved all 3. the 5770 could play BFBC2, Red Faction Guerrilla, and Batman Arkham Asylum at better settings and resolution than an Xbox 360 or PS3 ever could. So I know something like that would still be great.

But now, I don't really want anything more than $40.

I just want to play Terraria, Runescape, Oblivion, and some others.

It's weird. Borderlands and Oblivion already run better than Terraria, even with Terraria on the lowest settings and the others at least in 720p.

Advice on buying TV

Planning to get a new TV to run with my Xbox One S. I used to have a 32" 720p TV in the bedroom, I don't think I can squeeze in more than 39 or 40" TV inside the room. Is it a better idea to get a 1080p 32/39" screen or stick with 720p? My primary concern is if I will see any blur while using my One S when it downscales the resolution.

[EVENT] Thomas Cochrane Station

Brazilian Naval Command - Arsenal de Marinha do Brasil

Programa Antártico Brasileiro Naval Headquarters

The Brazilian Antarctic Program, (Programa Antártico Brasileiro) before October of 2022 was a minor Brazilian Navy Programme, but after the Reelection of President Rafael Lemos, it has been decided that the scientific sector in Brazil requires more funding, for the future of the nation, and its' standing on the world stage as a scientific power. Controlling a mainland Antarctic Research Station is truly a selective club of nations who strive to learn what is not yet known about wildlife, weather, geology, and the cosmos.

Brazil has announced that plans for an antarctic base on the mainland have been underway for about six months now, and that the first advance scouts and survey teams have been sent ahead to the build site to verify the viability of an Antarctic Station. At Coordinates -75.598859, -27.215816, on a Peninsula previously unnamed, (Now to be called the Pedro I Peninsula) 21 Surveyors from the Brazilian Marine Corps Engineers arrived (Unarmed, of course) and confirmed that despite strong winds coming off the Weddell Sea, the area would be perfect for a base, provided that an adequate barrier made from Snow, Shipping Containers, and stone be made on the Northern and Western Portions of the base to prevent terribly strong winds which would hinder access by Icebreakers, which will dock on the safe southern part of the Peninsula.

The facility will be named Thomas Cochrane Station after Thomas Cochrane, the Marquess of Maranhão, an Englishman who volunteered to become the first Admiral of the Brazilian Imperial Navy during the War of Independence. The Antarctic Program run by the Navy felt this was an adequate name. The station will focus mainly on the study of Antarctic Weather Conditions and marine life in the Weddell Sea, as well as local seal populations that live on the frozen coastline. The base will have the following amenities;

  • Living Quarters for 36 Souls during Summer and 10 Overwinter.

  • Research Center (Connected to Living Quarters) for study of weather and antarctic biologic life.

  • Recreation Room (Connected to Living Quarters) with Xbox 720 and Playstation 5 systems, as well as a pool table and drinking parlor.

  • Wind Breaks made from Shipping Containers and snow to keep wind coming off the Weddell Sea from hitting too hard.

  • Packed down snow airstrip for landing small transport aircraft.

  • Pier Capable of holding one 6,100 tonne (Max displacement) icebreaker.

  • Depot to hold shipping containers of food, fuel, utilities, etc.

  • Motor Pool with 4 Snowmobiles and 1 (Snow Plow) Truck to keep the station's thoroughfare clear.

  • Long Range Radio & Satellite Transmitter.

It is expected to take from August of 2023 to December to construct the station to basic readiness with 4 Scientists on station, though this number will rise by December of 2024 to full readiness with Overwinter capability. All Research will be published in the Russian language, as Portuguese is not an official Language of the Antarctic Treaty System. The Brazilian Navy requests that the Republic of Chile and the Russian Federation each send 3 Engineers to oversee the construction of the facility and provide suggestions to us for the construction of the Thomas Cochrane Station, as we have no prior experience constructing Mainland bases.

TIME: Minecraft's 720p resolution is not a matter of system power, but issues when trying to scale resolution between docked/undocked modes.

From TIME http://time.com/4775563/minecraft-nintendo-switch-review/

Update: Microsoft notes that Minecraft‘s 720p docked/undocked resolution isn’t a question of system power, but stems from issues currently experienced shifting from one resolution to the other when docking/undocking. It’s possible, albeit not confirmed, that Minecraft for Switch could hit 1080p docked down the road.

This "issue" could be due to how the console edition's general UI is designed. It's dependent on resolution, and that's why you'll see text getting thinner when playing splitscreen, or the 720x408 Vita version, and slightly thicker when playing the PS4/Xbox One versions. Also, the double buffer v-sync could have caused undesired framerate drops (also not a matter of system power).

The reason why 4J can easily maintain 7 versions and update them all at once is due to their unified code. Platform specifc, and even splitscreen specific settings are possible, but the general game logic and coding is 99% the same, even down to glitches.

If UI and the double buffer v-sync issue can be fixed, Minecraft could be able to have a higher render distance undocked (matching Wii U) and 1080p when docked, with little impact to the core experience.

[LAPTOPAMA] I bought a Lenovo Yoga 720 15 4k 16gb, AMA

I bought a Lenovo Yoga 720 15 4k, 16gb, 512gb SSD, GTX 1050 2gb from Best Buy yesterday; here are my initial thoughts/impressions (originally posted by me in/r/lenovo).

I will say that I am coming from a 2013 13in MacBook Air so my opinion may be skewered a little bit as pretty much anything nowadays will be better than that although I have had a gaming desktop for quite some time.

I picked it from Best Buy yesterday, got the $1400 model with a 4k display, i7, 16gb RAM, 512gb SSD, and a GTX 1050 2gb. I've been looking into getting a new laptop for a while and it was either between this or the Dell XPS 15. I took the gamble with the yoga cause of its ability to be used as a tablet for taking notes while also still having XPS levels of performance.

So far I'm satisfied with it, no bloat ware whatsoever aside from the basic Lenovo utility apps which I've actually found very useful so far.

  • The display is great; crisp, vibrant colors, good brightness, should be great for photo editing in Lightroom.

  • Speakers aren't all that bad really, they're a little shallow and a little flat but they sound alright, I'll mess around with the Dolby settings and see if I can improve them.

  • The trackpad is okay, it's glass and feels good but it is a little floaty despite the precision drivers - this seems like something that could be fixed via an update.

  • The keyboard is fantastic, much more travel than my Air and good spacing/sized keys. Although Only two brightness settings for the backlighting which is a little lame.

  • Gaming performance is great so far, and this is why I'm really here. The first and only game I've tried is Dirt Showdown and let me tell you it runs like a dream. I decided to push the resolution all the way up to 4k and the settings up to high for shits and giggles, and wow, I ran the benchmark test and managed to get just under 60fps. However the laptop did get very warm but not to the point where it would be totally uncomfortable sitting in your lap.

  • I'm testing the battery life throughout the day today so I will update later this evening.

  • I also cannot comment on the pen performance as they're not available in stores and have to be purchased online. I do plan on buying one in the future.

  • The fans are actually a little loud but not terrible, when I was playing dirt Showdown at 4k they got pretty loud but really not much louder than say an Xbox. In short, it didn't feel like it was about to take off and fly away.

If you'd like me to test a specific game let me know and I'll see if it's in my library. I do have GTA V, DOOM 2016, Dirt 3, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Crysis 3, NFS Most Wanted, Beam NG, Far Cry 3, Superhot, Wolfenstein, and like 60 more.

Edit: Here is a screenshot of the XML file from the 4k benchmark: http://imgur.com/ZlvLdXK

  • Quick update after messing around with it for a few hours. Honestly, this thing oozes quality; the build quality is great - no flex in the keyboard, no deformities on the body, screen flex is very little but its very acceptable considering its a 180 degree hinge. The metal on the keyboard deck feels great and is nice and smooth (I honestly think I prefer this over the carbon fiber on the XPS I demoed). The fingerprint scanner is another plus - works great with windows hello and is super quick to recognize. It also feels like an element that was planned to be in the design a long time ago rather than plopped on at the last second like the XPS.

  • A few other gripes I have so far; the hinges are very tight; its not possible to open the screen with one hand at the moment but it does feels like they'll loosen up over time. Another thing is that when using the device in tablet mode there is a gap between the back of the screen and the bottom of the laptop that makes it bounce a bit when you tap - kind of annoying but not too bad. Also, the fans seem to kick in at random times; you could have no apps open and just be sitting on the desktop and the fans will kick in lightly or you could have 10 tabs open in chrome and a bunch of apps in the background and the fans wont make a peep. When the fans aren't running though the device is totally silent - and this seems to be the case the majority of the time.

This will be my laptop for the next four years or so (if no issues pop up within the next two weeks) and I will be using it for photo editing, video editing, gaming, and engineering related CAD programs.

Just bought a Lenovo Yoga 720 15 4k 16GB AMA

I'm not the same guy that made the original 720 AMA thread a month ago but considering I just got one myself I figured I'd do another one so people could have a different perspective.

I will say that I am coming from a 2013 13in MacBook Air so my opinion may be skewered a bit as pretty much anything nowadays will be better than that.

Picked it from Best Buy today, got the $1400 model with a 4k display, i7c 16gb RAM, 512gb SSD, and a GTX 1050 2gb.

The display is great; crisp, vibrant colors, good brightness, should be great for photo editing in Lightroom.

Speakers aren't all that bad really, they're a little shallow and a little flat but they sound alright, I'll mess around with the Dolby settings and see if I can improve them.

The trackpad is ok, it's glass and feels good but it is a little floaty despite the precision drivers - this seems like something that could be fixed via an driver update.

The keyboard is fantastic, much more travel than my Air and good spacing/sized keys. Although Only two brightness settings for the backlighting which is a little lame.

Gaming performance is great so far, and this is why I'm really here.

I haven't tested the battery life yet as I've had the laptop plugged in since I unboxed it, I can hopefully test that tomorrow.

I also cannot attest to the pen performance as they're not available in stores and have to be purchased online.

The fans are actually a little loud but not terrible, when I was playing dirt Showdown at 4k they got pretty loud but really not much louder than say an Xbox.

Here are the unboxing photos: http://imgur.com/a/L5WJa

Edit: Here is a screenshot of the XML file from the 4k benchmark: http://imgur.com/ZlvLdXK

PS4/Xbox One/Xbox One S/Fire Tv/Web App: Bandwidth errors since recent update.

Have you checked the Plex knowledge base and searched on the sub and Google: Yes even posted on Plex - no answer

Server version:1.5.6.3790

OS:Windows 10 64 bit

Clients, w/ versions, if applicable: Fire tv, PS4, Xbox one S, Xbox one, Web App

What you did?Try to play any video at all. High bitrate, low bitrate, 1080p, sd, 720p, did not matter.

What happened? Ever since the most recent update plex has basically been unusable for me. On the Xbox One S it tells me on every single video bandwidth not available. Xbox One S is displaying at 4k resolution. If I switch to my fire tv (4k model) the display is set for 1920x1080 as that is what plex runs at. All videos play BUT the audio cuts out every few seconds. My network is unchanged it is 300/30 and when I switch to kodi running on my fire tv the same video plays with zero issue. If I play plex on my regular xbox in a different room, it skips as well.

I tried downgrading my version using the exe's in the update folder, but every older version now gives me failed codecs. I have reinstalled, rebooted, reset network, several times and nothing works. If I try remote play from web app, it buffers every few seconds and stops. Plex is basically dead for me now, and I don't know what to do. https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/270249/broken-on-xbox-one-s-and-fire-tv-after-update-unusable#latest

So I used someones speedtest plugin and I get 207/30. I feel like I have more than enough. Can anyone help?

I made this post on the forums and got zero help. I don't understand what happened. I tried downgrading it to an old version but then I get failed codec messages that I cannot fix. Any ideas?

What you expected? It to actually play like it did before the update.

What are your (relevant) settings? Default settings, not a plex pass member.

6 Things I Think Can make Tom Clancy Rainbow Six siege A better game and over all Greater Experience

Firstly Let me Say I am a Giant fan of Tom Clancy Games. I have been Hooked Since I first Played "Rainbow Six 3 Black arrow".On my original Xbox in 2004. Since then I can Count on one Hand, How many Tom Clancy games I have not played. However as Much as I love Tom Clancy Games and I think Siege Is a truly Great Game. I would be Lying to say, I do not worry about the state it is in. But I am Heartened To hear of “OPERATION HEALTH” .I will list below 6 things, that I think will make the game truly Great. Great to the Point. That you can Mention It in the Same breath as Counter Strike. As the Pinnacle of Competitive Shooters.

FIX 1. Montagne Nerf : I Know that all Buffs made to Game are done. To Try Making some operator more desirable. To be picked. I would say the Shield Buff for Montagne and Blitz Truly did this. Making them Take only 25% damage from a "Nitro Cell", that is detonated in front of the shield. Make Montagne Become A Great Standalone operator. As well as Blitz to a much lesser degree. However here is the issue I have with it. I will run into a Montagne in around 33% of games I play(ranked). The way He is used does not change much. He is used to

  1. Block a Doorway
  2. Distract the Defenders 3.Sitting in a corner with Shield Expanded And just contest the Objective, Or stop you from Breaking the Diffuser. By either standing in front of it. Or making you do a Odd faint. Trying to trick me into dropping my shield to stop you. In Secure Area And Bomb Respectively.

I do not have an issue with Any of these Tactics. The issue I have comes from the fact that as I said above. He is now a Standalone Operator. He can be used as support. However by making him So Resilient. He can becomes viable on his own. Here are some fixes. I would like to see that I think. Can make Him much more Fair. To go up Against but still keep Him viable.

  1. make the Glass on his shield Breakable. I think if it is made to be, around twice the Durability of BlackBeards Face shield (320 Desirability). That would be just about the sweet spot. At that number. He can fulfill his role as a Point-man. To enter the Building, or give cover from Incoming fire. As the shield is about 60% metal. As such unbreakable. The defenders will have a very hard time hitting the glass. From anything but point Blank Range. Even more so when you take into account. That you would want to Brake the View port glass. As that would Kill him. With a headshot, after being broken. As that Port is about 10% of the shield(Unextended). To land that amount of shots. On it as it is moving. As you are likely taking suppressing fire. From other players , as well as being at risk of being flanked. It is so unlikely. It can almost be called impossible. Even if the full Defending team. Was to abandon their defense. To put fire onto him. So you may ask . Why if it is so Impossible, do I think it would fix Montagne ? the reason is simple. It lets him fulfill his role. But stops him from being the last attack alive. Still being able to hold the full Defending team at bay. As they would be able to get right up on him. To shot At him at point blank range.

2.Give more defenders “Nitro Cells” and less “Impact Grande's”. This would atleast give the Defenders. Something more Viable. When fighting Montagne. As Impact grandes. Although they move much faster as well as fly further and the player has two. Rather than Only One “Nitro cell”. They Are truly leaking power. They are great to Brake surface. (walls, ,floors, windows and Hatches) . Whoever they do not. Have the power to kill about 66% of Operators. Unless the Operator has already taking damage. I personally have hit a Hibana Dead center in the chest with an “Impact”. She lived to kill me. I would suggest upping the power of “impacts”. But doing that could make them overpowered. Do to all their good qualities

3.Make any “nitro cell”. That detonate within a meter of the front of Montange. Knock him down. Into a “Down but not out state”. In this way it makes Him need to say with teammate(s). Not rush the defenders recklessly. It also makes a lot of sense. As you would not even know what why is up. If you get Concussed like that. If we want to get into the math behind it the very simple formula would look something like this. (25700/14.5/720x1290=3175 Psi)this is without any consideration of thermal energy or Materials within the blast Radius. Rather this shows what the number would be if detonated mid-air and not impacting any object the point being that one meter the blast focus would be over 3,000 Psi that is them some as one african Elephant Running into you at 29,132.7 Km/h for every 25.8 Cm.sq Point being there is No way anyone is going still be in the fight after that they would be die so I think for a game that tries to be more realistic than other it is not to much to ask the you down someone from that.

  1. Give Montange a Limit on how long he can have his shield expanded. The shield is going to be over 27.2Kg . No matter how strong or well trained you are. Your body is not holding that Posture Indefinitely. Maybe 3 mins but you need to Condense that time. Do to rounds only being 4 mins long at most. Also his recovery from firing to protected. Should be at least twice as long, As it is now. And/or his aim should be less stable. After all that is a 27.2Kg Shield pulling you off center. You are dropping it downward with a 30 degree spin quickly. The effective weight will for a moment be greater about 61.19 Kg at the moment of Inertia that will affect your Y axis and it will be about 40.8 Km angler Momentum at the same time so your X axis will always be affected when If you were to use the to to counter each other you will still be left with 21.11 Kg of downforce Again I am not looking for a hyper realistic game I am only explaining my reasoning for the changes

FIX 2 IQ Buff : IQ is an Operator that has needed To be buffed. From day one Arguably. She has alway been the one Operator that needed a buff the most. As She Ability has alway been almost pointless. It Became more useful with Valkyrie and echo. As she can find “Blackeyes” and “Yoki” easier than any other Operator. However even this is almost pointless. As Anyone can find Blackeyes easily. If they look for them, as they have a Blue light on them. Although IQ is the only attack that can give the exact placement of Yoki with eaz. It is pointless. As if echo is using it she will be dazzy before she can shoot it. Odds are before she recovers it will be somewhere else. Yes she can find “Pulse” with her screener. As well as mute jammers and bandit batteries however, this too is almost pointless. As you can hear Pulse most of the time if you are within sidearm range with any operator. You can hear Mute jammers when you are close to them. You can see the sparks from Bandit batteries on the other side of anything it is being used on. Or see the sparks coming off of the wire it is put in. and you can see and hear “Nitro cells” with anyone. The point is 1.if you ask anyone why they use her. They will 99.9% of the time say it is do to here long guns, Being very good weapons

2.her job is done better by Others.

But I think their is one easy fix. You can give her to make her a really viable choose. For more than just her guns this is,

Make her Pistol when her ability is active. Use rounds that can Penetrate Reinforced walls.. This way she can not only see the jammer or battery. but she can by herself do something about it. It is also true she can do this to kill the defenders on the other side of the wall. But as she Can not see them all she would be able to do is Blindfire. Much as Glaz threw Castles doors so it would not be an issue at all.

FIX 3 Glaz Nerf: Glaz In my mind is the one Operator That never needed a Buff. He has always been very powerful. The only two things that every limited him where and remain to be.

Leak of good sight lines for him to snip. A weak scope.

Everything else about him as always been just fine. Even a year after the game launched.their are things only he can do. such as.

Shooting thru the windows on plane. Shooting thru castle doors.

However now he has gotten to a point where. The few Drawbacks he ones had. Have been all but removed. I would like to see him be restored. To the way he was day one. However I understand. That is not fair to ask. As many players. Would have some very “colorful” things to say about that. So I suggest any or all of these changes

Drop his rate of fire to under that of Smokes shotgun.(the gun is a one shot kill as it is now . So With that type of power. I think a miss should be punished. That way you can not go into a CQB gunfight. With someone using an SMG. Miss your 1st shot but still win the gunfight) Give his gun a large recoil. something along the lines of tachankas mounted gun. for similar reasons as #1. However with the benefit of not being able to engage multi Defenders. In a matter of just as many seconds.
Take away his smoke grenades. Change the Thermal Scope to a form of Night Vision. That grants the ability to see clearly .Into the building from a destions. Rather than have it Shrouded in shadow. also unaffected by the time of day (not true to life I know). But the scope will not ad him in finding player in anyway beyond that. Make his scope much more powerful. Something like a 6x-12x. That why it will not be viable in close. He will have to use the default CQC scope

FIX 4: Give shotgun access to Slugs:

1.Let the player pick if they want to use Shot. For a greater spread with less damage the longer the range

  1. A slug that sacrifices the ability to aim as carelessly. But grands a longer range. (that of a non-long barrel SMG). A One shot Kill. If it hits as well as greater Penetration. However a larger recoil

I think this will allow shotgun see more play. But still keep them from being over powered. I would do this by putting the the slug as an option in the Barrel Choke area. Of the weapon customizer or a new tab for those shotgun that do not have a barrel opinion

FIX 5 Competitive Leaderboards: Leaderboards are almost as old as video games themselves. We as humans. Always want to be able to Know where we stack up. Against each other. I am surprised. That they have not been added to the game yet. I would Make Six different leaderboards Overall standings based off (rank in Ranked) Overall standings based off (Kill/Death) Overall Standings with a (Specific Operator) Your Overall standings based off (your average Points Per game) Your overall standings based off (Win/lose) Your country's Standings On the global scale based off (the average of the standings in the five categories above)

I would call the Leaderboards. “murderboards” as to fit the Spirit of Rainbow six. Using a military term

FIX 6 Use Voting as a tool: Do not compromise what the game. As It is at it’s core. But then something comes up that you are thinking should be added., Or changed. Let the community vote on it. Let their votes help shape the game they love. here are three things i think should be open to voting.

Proposed changes to Operators(Buffs/nerfs) Proposed Changes to Weapons(buffs/Nerfs) The Adding of a New piece of Equipment (i.e. claymores, “Impact” )

This last point may be the most key, In making this game into what it Can be. As we all know all too well. A game lives or dies do to it’s fans. The fans Of Tom Clancy games are some of the most loyal,Even tempered of all Game fanbases. We are not the loudest voices. For we are A bit older. We are smart we are proud. We will be the 1st to help someone in need. Please do not lose us your loyal fans.By bowing to those that yell loudest. For we may always love the games. But we will not support A sale out. It will not be loud. You will not see us ranting and grandstanding. We will just stop playing the games. We will choose to Remember Tom Clancy games. As they once were not as a scant Imutanson. Of course We understand that to say in business. Younger fans need to be added to the mix. Fan that were not alive. To see Gaming Become what it is now. Fans that grew up playing Call of Duty. Think that is a “”tactical Shooter”. That to not be like COD is same how A mark of a bad FPS. But for everyone like that. You have a person that will become a fan. Of Tom clancy games for what they are. This has been shown time and time again. As an example Vegas 2 released in 2009. The same year as Call of Duty Modern warfare 2. (the call of duty that sent call of duty into the number one FPS slot). As well as Halo Reach.(The Halo game that followed the then best selling Console shooter Halo 3 ). Still vegas two found a large amount of support. It sold well.

To sam this all up. Please do not cater to the loud and Bolsters. Stay true to what has allowed Tom clancy games. To keep going strong for over 20 years.

Thank you for taking the time to Read this. I Hope to see some of these things listed above. Put into the game. I truly want to see only the best for Siege. It is a game I truly Enjoy.I am glad to see that it will be getting some much needed and long overdue TLC. With “Operation Health”

PAL vs NTSC

What gives the better image quality?

I have connected by xbox to a 1080p projector with the High Definition AV Pack which, when I set the Xbox to NTSC mode, gives me 720p or even 1080i on games that support that. (So far I only have Crash Nitro Kart which goes to 720p, but the frame rate suffers in some levels with 4 players)

Games that don't support the HD mode are only displayed in 480i/p however.

When I set the Xbox to PAL mode, I get 576i for PAL games - especially text looks much better. But I won't be able to run the HD games in their higher resolution.

Is there a solution for this other than remembering to manually switch the video mode depending on the game?

Damn SEGA is treating it's fans good with these PC ports.

Bayonetta, a 15-20 hour game for 15$, updated for PC. A nearly flawless port(Frame-capped and a bug with cutscenes for many users that make the game chug at a low frame rate, myself included...still hoping for a fix, the current user solution is to play in offline mode, but that kinda sucks), but for the majority of people, Bayonetta 1 is an ideal PC Port. It even has rebindable controls, something unusual in games like that.

Vanquish comes along. No frame rate cap. All the goodies you'd expect from a PC port on their page, as well as 25% off if you own Bayonetta 1 on PC. (Seriously, not even GMG is matching that deal from what I've seen.)

Also if you add both Bayonetta & Vanquish to your cart, the total comes out to 30$, the discount applies to both for some reason, essentially making a 2-pack of two great games for 30 bucks.

Given how good the port of Bayonetta was, compared to how shitty it ran on Consoles.(Seriously, PS3 version ran sub 30FPS, 720p most of the time, while Xbox 360 managed a more steady 40-45.)

I hope we get Resonance of Fate next, but I doubt it, that game never achieved the kind of popularity these two games did.

Question about recording Xbox 360 footage, maybe streaming

Hi,

Sorry if this was asked already, I've searched Google, but couldn't find a definite answer.

This is about a capture card and I would like to record some footage from my Xbox 360, maybe even stream some. My question is do I need a powerful GPU to smoothly record something at 720@30fps from a console? I only have a laptop with intel i5 3210m, 8 gigs of ram and a pre-historic neanderthal Intel HD4000 GPU which obviously can't even dream about recording any kind of footage on its own. So if you record footage from consoles through a capture card, mostly your computer/laptop CPU and RAM do all the work or GPU also?

Thanks

No More Fan Wars/ Fanboys, Let's all be friends?!

I'm not even that old (25) .......

I spent many years of my life playing games at 720p or less in most cases.

Faces looked like moving hexagons

Everything had pointy edges

Animations were horrible

FPS and Resolution, nobody even cared

When the main boss was like 5 pixels wide

Game saves were stored on a 250mb memory card (if they had a save option at all)

Digital downloads were not a thing

Console wars were non existent

Everybody loved playing games regardless of how shiny it looked or how many times the tv refreshed the frame that you couldn't see refreshing anyway.

If the game was bugged, tough! That was the game, end of.

Season passes and DLC did not exist, you paid for a game and it was yours (yes, ALL of it)

.... list is endless ... Feel free to add to it.

What we have is incredible, regardless of the brand name on the plastic box, the specs of your console or PC.

If you have a passion and a love for gaming then let's stop all this toxicity and fanboyism.

Xbox, PlayStation, PC and every other form of gaming you may use. Is it really so bad to be friends with others who likely share your passions and interests but may own a different device than you?

Does it really matter how many more pixels you are viewing compared to someone else?

For the love of gaming, save our community before it becomes too toxic and we all get that Game Over!!

Cheap 550 dollar gaming laptop

  • Total budget and country of purchase: I would love for it to be 550-600 USD range, but I can go higher if I must. I live in California in the United States.

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I just want a normal laptop, a good battery would be great.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? I would like it to not be too heavy, I need it to fit in a backpack.

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10, nothing special, just the basic windows 10

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15.6 inches at the most, smaller is fine, but nothing bigger.

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Light video editing and gaming. I will be running older games and indie games, and I will do video editing for my youtube channel (I will record the gameplay on my Xbox one).

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Anywhere between 40-60 FPS on medium settings. 720p is fine.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? A backlit keyboard would be great, but I don't need it. It would be nice if it had a SSD, because I can get an external HDD for extra space later on.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I don't think I have any thing else to say, just that I know my budget is quite low for a laptop, just put the best one you can find.
