I wanted to create this thread as a primer to a post I want to make. I didn't want the post to be all about me, since the intent is to encourage players to both understand the meta, but realize that you can also perform well and reach 5,500 without ever touching a shotgun, etc.
That's not to say every player is going to be able to hit 5,500 with a bow. Those skilled enough surely can. But they also probably practiced with it a good bit. Knowing your equipment / loadout, and feeling comfortable and confident in it is highly important.
So, what loadouts have you reached 5,500 with? Helpful if you name the season and include things like platform (PC, XBOX1, PS4), subclass, Kinetic/Special/Heavy you used primarily, and even armor stat splits.
I just got done with my 3rd for my Unbroken title, this is what did the heavy lifting for me mostly from 2,700 upward:
I did mine on console / XBOX ONE. Season of Arrivals.
KINETIC:
Steelfeather Repeater (720 RPM Auto Rifle)
Slideways + Elemental Capacitor / Vorpal Weapon (can toggle either on mid-match)
Chambered Compensator + Ricochet Rounds + Stability Masterwork + Hipfire Grip MOD (max MAX stability roll, highly useful on console because of recoil)
254 total kills on the weapon, all in the past couple of days finishing out my 5,500
ENERGY:
Elegy-49 (90 RPM Sniper Rifle)
Snapshot Sights + Moving Target
SSO-08 Sniper (short zoom) + Flared Magwell + Handling Masterwork (smooth and consistent with fast reload)
w/Radar Tuner MOD
536 total kills on the weapon
HEAVY:
Roar of the Bear (15 RPM Rocket Launcher)
Tracking Module + Quickdraw
Hard Launch + High-Velocity Rounds + Blast Radius Masterwork (basically max size blast radius)
w/Radar Booster MOD
1,980 total kills on weapon
SubClass:
Bottom-Tree Sentinel TITAN
Suppressor Grenades
Catapult Lift Jump
Exotic Armor: Lion Rampant
Stat splits:
100 Mobility
16 Resilience
95 Recovery
52 Grenade
60 Super
28 Melee
Seasonal Mods:
Double Enhanced Scatter Projectile Targeting
High-Energy Fire
Stacks on Stacks
Powerful Friends
Charge Harvester
Short Summary:
Basically well-rounded. Max Mobility + High Recovery with Ample Super and Grenade energy for shutting down Supers with suppression grenades. Tended to swap on Bastion for Anomaly only, to counter aggressive shotgunners and prevent them from running over my lesser teammates in Solo Comp. Would usually pair Arsenic Bite bow with the Bastion (Snapshot + Archer's Tempo with minimal drawtime). Goal was usually to be constantly pressing the enemy with the Steelfeather autorifle (49 bullets in the mag means you make a lot of noise and the enemy is constantly aware of where you are), you want to take their focus off your teammates most of the time. Ricochet Rounds + high Recovery means you can spam a mag around a corner while you wait a quick beat to get yourself back to full health. Lion Rampants just happened to be something I randomly threw on that gave me a good overall stat total, and I made the most of them as a surprise in the later rounds of the match when I would suddenly lift off during a 1v1 and start hipfire hovering over an enemy. Also worked well to confuse airborne Mountaintop users. Sniper Rifle to quickly delete enemies in situations where they outnumber you and you need to equalize that in 1v2 or 1v3 scenarios. Being able to shoulder-charge with bottom tree Sentinel + fly with Lion Rampants made the build surprisingly versatile and could use different tactics on the fly to surprise enemies in unexpected ways. Allowed me to play quick.
Biggest weaknesses of this build were ranged battles against Gnawing Hungers outside of 20m, and wasn't the most ideal versus shotgunners up close (but with movement and positioning and tactics could usually mitigate that against most shotgunners, could always throw on Bastion or Proelium situationally if it became a significant problem).
