2017 Performance Guide: CS:GO doesn't feel smooth at high FPS or you lost FPS in general? Try this!
This guide is separated into 3 categories, what you can do to 1. CS:GO, to 2. Windows/Software and to your 3. Hardware.
Disclaimer: This is what I have done and what you could try to make your game feel smooth and gain some FPS. It might not work for everybody but since so many people complain about FPS issues I thought this was worth doing.
1. CS:GO:
-
In-game: This seems obvious but setting everything to LOW and switching to a lower resolution can help.
-
Launch Options: Remove them. Especially -high and -threads. I guess your could keep stuff like -novid or -tickrate 128 but I recommend removing all of them first and testing the result.
-
Workshop: Unsubscribe to all the unnecessary Workshop maps that you don't use often. I was subscribed to a ton of grenade-throw and pre-aim maps, which I assume use a lot of skripts. After removing everything but crashz crosshair/viewmodel guide, AimBotz, Aim/Reflex training and FPS Benchmark my game started a lot quicker.
2. Windows/Software:
-
Windows 10 Optimization: Disable Xbox DVR! (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6239-DZCB-8600). Follow this Win10 Performance guide! by TechCubed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2M8eDyJebc). He shows your how to disable unnecessary functions and remove useless aps of Windows 10.
-
Drivers: Update them or better do a clean install of the latest AMD/nvidia driver. Use google for reference.
-
AMD Radeon Settings: Open the AMD Radeon Settings app and go to -> Gaming -> Global Settings -> Shader Cache and turn "AMD optimized" off. It should get rid of micro-stuttering. Go back to Global Settings and disable the CSGO profile if enabled.
-
Nvidia: Check out the tips u/Shock720 suggested on his post!
-
General: Take care of your PC! Do not install useless programs and bloatware in general.
3. Hardware:
Many people are complaining that their performance in CS:GO went down over the years, yet I would bet that half of them have not even considered looking inside of their PC.
-
Clean your system: Open your PC case and remove dust. I'm not gonna give you tips on how to do it properly but their are plenty of guides online.
-
GPU performance: Get a program like MSI Afterburner and check your memory and clock speeds. I noticed that after some (Windows?) update my GPU got underclocked, turning the values up to the factory setting gave me back those lost FPS. Google your GPU to find out what the factory settings of your card are.
-
Overheating: Also with MSI Afterburner I noticed that my CPU temps were really high. So I cleaned my CPU fan and applied new thermal paste. Temperatures went down and performance in CS went up and stabilized.
uLLeticaL's FPS Benchmark map is a nice way to test CS:GO's performance before and after you made changes (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=500334237).
I hope this was helpful to some of you and if you have additional tips make sure to let me know so I can edit them in!

Video ghosting issue when using component video?
Hey everyone!
I am using a 360 outputting via component cables (I'm using some very decent looking Rocketfish cables) but for some reason on my LCD TV I am getting similar video ghosting to this image - http://i.imgur.com/1gFIFNj.jpg
I have an OEM cable coming in the mail but wanted to ask if anyone has had similar issues in the past. I do NOT get any of this ghosting when using the 360 in 720p on my Sony BVM-D24 broadcast monitor, but get the ghosting not only on the TV but my Datapath Vision AV capture card via component. This happens at every resolution capable by the 360 and does not seem to change anything. Again this does NOT happen on my BVM broadcast monitor but only on my LCD and capture card.
Let me know if you have any suggestions! I will test with the OEM cable once it comes in the mail.
Thanks in advance!

Component video ghosting/ringing from Xbox 360?
Hey everyone! Before anyone asks this is a required use case for component video and I can not just use HDMI. This is for a videowall style setup. Also I am a Commercial AV design engineer & project manager, but my analog video skills are a bit rusty.

The only thing I can think of is that the TV/capture card isn't terminating the signal properly as the BVM with a properly 75ohm terminated input card is fine, but it makes me wonder what the issue could be if it is happening on the Datapath frame capture as well. I also tried going through the service menu of my Sony LCD TV and they don't give you LCD driver settings anymore! So I can't really mess with the RGB sync or anything of that nature.
Thanks in advance!

AH and GA play Burnout 3 without de-interlacing the video (not a rant)
I figured I'd talk about what's possible in modern video here. I was a bit short with one of the commenters in the original video page so I decided to try and explain everything without any venom (because I want to make sure people understand and learn, not feel stupid).
They went back to a slightly older game from the PS2/Xbox Original days known as Burnout 3 (obviously). It originally launched with tech that could barely render 480i without having severe frame rate issues. As you may or may not know, 480i means the video is interlaced. Half of the field from one frame is mixed with half of the field from the next frame. What determines a field is every odd number line is the top and the even number lines are the bottom. The reason why that happens is because of a holdover from technology that we no longer use. We can fix the image so it looks better, very easily in fact. It becomes harder to fix the further in the production process you are, though. I took some time to see if de-interlacing could be done with my setup and it worked out as well as could be expected. Here's a breakdown of the topic:
TV and cameras used to do interlacing when mass video consumption was developing since it was the most efficient way to send a video signal over-the-air through large antennae to each person's home antenna and TV. The camera would scan odd lines first, then go back over the same image and scan the bottom lines and send them in that order. In one frame, it would then create an image with the top field and wait for the bottom field, then the bottom field would show up and it would display both at the same time as the second frame. Sounds like it should be a progressive image, but it won't be for long. The next frame is then the old bottom field with the information from the next top field. This is frame 3. Then the top field from the last frame is held in place while the new bottom field is combined with it and is displayed as frame 4. Thus resulting in interlaced video being very awkward in modern day technology.
Moving on to progressive video, we now do every line as part of a whole with the entire image being displayed at once. It's always been possible to change interlaced into progressive, however you end up with a slower frame rate. You take half of the fields from one frame and half from the next to create a whole frame. Since both fields are technically on 2 frames, you then cut out half of them or simply leave it as doubled up frames in a 60FPS NTFS [50FPS PAL] video format (seems wasteful, but it doesn't really make much of a difference). This would change it from 480i to 480p. Sounds simple, and it is. There's just one catch;
While it's possible to de-interlace a video, you must know what resolution it was originally, or the field order becomes unusable. Technology today uses 720p by default for the low end and 1080p as the new standard (I know, 4k is coming around but until it's in budget phones, 1080p is the "new standard"), however games 12.5 years ago were only 480i. In this Let's Play scenario, de-interlacing an upscaled recording technically would make things worse. Every other line from 720 would not match up since it's no longer every other line from 480. However, downscaling and then de-iinterlacing can yield some decent results. It just depends on how much compression was used and if the frame rate is perfectly stable.
Now for the last part; I downloaded the video (I'm a first member, I do pay for the content so I'm not quite stealing >.>') and used a standard de-interlace filter in my video decoder while playing it. This is the result (top images are the original, bottom images are the de-interlaced versions):
It looks alright and the banding isn't nearly as noticeable, but the game hasn't aged well. Some people said that it was "extremely difficult" and made some sort of claim about it not being possible (so I went on a rant in the comments, hence the venom I mentioned earlier), which then made me realize that people aren't as educated as they should be on this particular subject. I wanted to inform people about why the video looks the way it does, what could've been done about it, and to show that it's entirely possible to fix using very basic tools. I have been studying and using video for half of my life now and I'm almost 30. I had classes in high school on video production, took several college courses as well, learned the ins and outs of various codecs, kept up with compression techniques, and overall have been utilizing what I know to do side projects of my own (I don't upload them anywhere, it's just for my personal collection).
In short, what happened with the interlacing could've been avoided if Achievement Hunter or Game Attack had used a different setting somewhere or changed the encoding format prior to editing, but once it was done and uploaded, there isn't much that could fix it. Hopefully people are understanding after reading this and will look past the video quality to see the content for the entertainment value that it is. And for those who think that it can't be fixed, at least know there is a way, even if it's a slightly longer process. Thanks for reading and have fun watching the content.
(Sorry if this is posted multiple times, it seemed like it didn't work when I first submitted it so I waited a moment and pressed the button a couple extra times)

[Xbox One] Eagle Squadron - Private Air Force rivalling Merryweather!
This is a planned group of armed aircraft. All I can say is :D.
We aim on keeping the skies (and ground?) clear of tangos. The plan is to have a 'squad' of at least 5 Lazars or Hydra Jump Jets, which would respond as Eagle 1, 2, Etc, A single Titan command plane (flown by me :D) and an airborne ground assault group. The airborne ground assault group would consist of ground attack aircraft and transports, such as savages, buzzards, Titans, etc. Also a few Insurgents for transport however this isn't necessary.
We will NOT be doing CEO work (unless people want to) but all members of the private Air Force will be Associates of 720-Tech Ltd. (my company), to disable friendly fire (will be easy to accidentally fire at friends when dogfighting in jets) To join you need at least 1 of the following. In brackets there is a bit of additional info about your position:
Basic fighting skills. Everybody has this :). (For parachuting from Titan or Buzzard or ?Savage)
Knowledge on how to steal a Lazar fighter jet. (Be part of the fighter squadron)
Hydra Jump Jet (Be part of the fighter squadron)
Valkyrie (Ground team support/identification/recon duties)
Titan Cargo Plane (Transporting troops, or in my case, being a mobile command center)
Buzzard Attack Chopper (Transporting and supporting troops)
Savage (supporting troops, transporting troops?, helicopter hunting)
Insurgent/Insurgent Pick Up (for transport, usually to and from airports/Fort Zancudo)
If you are interested please XBL message me at 'StablerNose720' Thanks for reading :)
Edit: Don't say this is incredibly ambitious, I know it is, and I have ~5 friends with Hydras AND Buzzards, who will most likely join :). We aim to beat back Merryweather as the proud enforcer of law/anti law. Thanks for reading :).

PSA: The old gen version of AC2, Brotherhood and Revelations are actually better than the new gen remaster. (PS3/X360/PC>PS4/XONE)
Variety of reasons.
First, one of the biggest and most fun things we had on those games was the combat system. You know, one that actually was fun and challenging (AC3 and up was like square square square R1 circle square square square R1 circle). Guess what? They replaced that with the boring combat system we got with AC3 and up (well done ubisoft).
Second: multiplayer. While we can all aggre not all people might enjoy the multiplayer (and fuck Brotherhood multiplayer trophies), people that DO enjoy it, enjoy a fucking lot. Assassin's Creed multiplayer is the most unique and fun multiplayer game I ever witnessed, and there are people still playing it! (On all the AC games, well maybe not brotherhood...). Well guess what? Ubisoft removed the multiplayer portion from the remaster... (again, good job ubisoft!). You know ubisoft, you could have used the old generation servers if you made a crossplay feature... people would actually praise you guys!
Graphics: Not that impressive. Honestly the original was at 720p and the "remaster" at 1080p, but aside from that, only some hd textures that doesn't even make a difference on AC2 and maybe some tweaks here and there on the other games, but nothing that really makes a difference. Hell, it even looks worse sometimes.
And well... price. 60 BUCKS?! No thanks. They have taken everything good from these games and sold them for FUCKING 60 BUCKS, which then again is not worth the price. Btw, the animations are avaible on youtube if you want. (Not to mention the age of these games!).
In short: This is better than this
(sorry for just using ps kind of thing, this also applies to xbox consoles)

Should I ascend of wait?
Good day, I have 2 monitor setup and was thinking should I upgrade to ultra wide 29 or 34 or should I wait? On Ces 2017 there were quite a lot of monitors shown with 4k 144hz which are not available for sale yet. For now I have BenQ XL2730Z(2560x1440) and LG L1942(1280x720). This looks like this: http://imgur.com/a/AcVao The PC specs: http://imgur.com/a/K5FBW I mainly use my PC for gaming and watching movies\anime from time to time and plus my 2 consoles are connected (PS4 and Xbox One). Thanks. The thing is, I plan to upgrade to Nvidia 1080ti or Vega as soon as they are released.

Step-By-Step Guide To Setting Up The Wind Waker With Hypatia's HD Texture Pack
Hey there folks! Finally getting around to posting this guide that I wrote up near the end of last year. It will show you how to run The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker with the best graphical fidelity in Dolphin. I made the guide originally for a visually impaired gamer here on Reddit who was having problems reading the text in the game. It will show you what settings to change in Dolphin, with fully annotated screenshots for each section.
This retexture is 100% faithful to the original artwork and Hypatia put a tremendous amount of time and effort into re-creating the original game's low resolution textures, which is why I consider it the best HD texture mod for this game.
The goal of this guide is to:
- Replace all textures in the game with high quality HD textures.
- Upscale the game to 4k resolution (which will then downscale to your native resolution if it is below 4k).
- Add quality-of-life enhancements to the game, without being gamebreaking or detracting from the original game in any way.
- Configure Dolphin correctly.
NOTE: Because of constant changes in Dolphin's development, certain features may not work as they previously did, when a new update is released. Other users have reported that the widescreen codes in particular are not working in newer versions of Dolphin. The settings in this guide have been tested with Dolphin-Ishiiruka build 777, which you can download here (64-bit only): https://www.dropbox.com/sh/us15j6yefj3e57g/AADORjf5Wmk3Ny3FojOwEybKa/Ishiiruka.777%28dbd7e13%29.x64.7z?dl=0
Wind Waker HD texture pack for Dolphin:
Download link:
http://onthegreatsea.tumblr.com/DOWNLOADS
Under the wind waker section. Gamecube version is the only one supported, btw. Works best with the US/NTSC version. If you use a Xbox 360 or PS4/PS3 controller, also download the high res HUD pack. Install the HD texture pack before the HUD pack, allowing the HUD pack to overwrite any files it asks to. Refer to the readme file in the HD texture pack for information on where to install it.
Another thing you'll want to download is the Ishiiruka build of dolphin, which performs better, especially on lower powered PC's and with texture packs: https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-unofficial-ishiiruka-dolphin-custom-version
When you first open Dolphin, you'll have to point to where the image files are for the games you'd like to play in it. First click 'Options' at the top of the main Dolphin window, then click 'Configure...', and then add the directory your games are located in the 'Paths' tab.
After Dolphin-Ishiiruka and the HD texture pack/HUD are installed, continue with the next steps in this guide.
Screenshots of steps in this guide: http://imgur.com/gallery/F7Byx
The (1), (2), etc.. numbers in this guide correspond with the screenshot numbers in the gallery.
Enhancements:
- Setting up AR/Gecko Codes:
(1). Open up Dolphin and right-click The Wind Waker in the list of games, and select 'Properties'.
(2). Click The 'AR Codes' tab and then click the 'Add' button in the bottom-right corner, and add the following codes, one at a time:
-
16:9 Widescreen Support (for 16:9 resolutions like 1920x1080, 1280x720, etc)
043FA998 3FE38E39
If you use an ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio, use one of these instead:
-
21:9 Widescreen support (2560x1080)
043FA998 4017B426
-
21:9 Widescreen support (3440x1440)
043FA998 4018E38E
NOTE: Do not use more than one of the widescreen codes at a time.
-
Remove Distance Blur
043FCB9C 00000000
Make sure the codes are checked on the list after adding them.
-
OPTIONAL:
Roll Further
(This is already included, about 3/4 of a page down from the top of the list, and is a minor enhancement to the roll that link does, which will make travel a bit faster and the roll a bit more useful. It is not gameplay breaking/cheesy in any way, as it is a very minor difference, but it is handy.)
(3). Next, click the 'Gecko Codes' tab and then click the 'download codes' button near the bottom-right corner. After the gecko codes have downloaded, make sure to check the "second set of equipped items" option.
Highly Recommended. This will make it so if you hit d-pad down, it will toggle between a primary and secondary set of equipment. This does not work until you get your boat. It's very useful, as this minimizes how much you have to go into the menus to switch your item loadout.
Graphics Settings:
(4), (5), (6), (7). Replicate my settings in the imgur link: http://imgur.com/gallery/F7Byx
Graphics / Performance Troubleshooting:
If you encounter stuttering:
In the 'Enhancements' tab, change the 'Internal Resolution' dropdown to 5x, 4x, or 3x and see if that helps.
Also, the XBRZ 'texture scaling mode' at 4x 'scaling factor' could be a bit demanding on some systems. You may want to try lower settings for that, or disable it completely.
If everything is running well, you can increase the 'Anti-Aliasing' higher than 2x and that will increase visual fidelity. For reference, I use 8xMSAA on a 980TI.
Nvidia users with GTX 900 series or newer cards can enable MFAA in the Nvidia Control Panel to get better quality/performance from the MSAA anti-aliasing options in Dolphin, although it does not work with SSAA.
In the 'General' tab, you can change the 'Backend' setting to either 'OpenGL' (Generally gives best performance on Nvidia cards) or 'DirectX 12' (Excellent performance on both Nvidia & AMD, but requires Windows 10). I have it set to 'DirectX 11' in this guide for compatibility, as that works well on both Nvidia and AMD graphics cards.
If you are getting noticeable input lag when playing, you should turn 'v-sync' off. I have had it on for 75% of a playthrough so far without issue, and I really just love everything being smooth and crisp/tear-free. G-sync/adaptive sync users get the best of both worlds.
In the 'Hacks' tab, you can try un-checking the 'Compute Texture Encoding' and 'Computer Texture Decoding' options to see if this helps with any stuttering you may encounter. I've only experimented with these settings on a Nvidia card, so AMD graphics card owners may want to untick these options, but it couldn't hurt to experiment with them both ways to see if it helps.
In the 'Advanced' tab, you can try unchecking the 'Prefetch Custom Textures' option if you have any issues, as this loads all textures to system ram to speed up performance and minimize stuttering, but this requires a good amount of system ram to work as intended. (I use this option with 16GB of system ram. With 8GB or less you may encounter issues.)
If you have one of those whiz-bang new GPU's with 8GB or more ram, you may want to try the "cache custom textures on GPU" option. This gave me really bad stutters with 6GB on my 980ti though. It's an option to try if you have 4GB or more of ram I suppose. It couldn't hurt, and may work with someone else's configuration where it did not in mine for some reason. I don't think it would work with a HD texture pack like this, if your GPU has less than 4GB of ram, as it loads all of the game's textures to your GPU at startup, instead of streaming them in as you visit each area.
Control Settings:
(8). See last screenshot in the imgur link for advice on correctly setting up controls: http://imgur.com/gallery/F7Byx
This is very important to making the game play correctly in Dolphin.
Custom HD HUD Icons:
This will give you Playstation/Xbox icons for buttons instead if default Gamecube graphics.
First, install Hypatia's HD HUD graphics mod from here: http://onthegreatsea.tumblr.com/DOWNLOADS
Extract to the same place you installed the HD Texture Mod, and overwrite any files when prompted.
To see the correct buttons for the controller you are using in the HUD/on-screen/menus, instead of the default Gamecube controller graphics, navigate to the location of the HD Texture Pack/HUD you installed in the following directory:
c:\Users\%YourUserName%\Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Load\Textures\GZLE01\HUD
You will see a bunch of directories with numbers in front of them, like '01 High Res GC HUD' and '02 XBOX HUD'. Delete all of the numbered directories like this EXCEPT the one for the controller you are using. So for the xbox360/one controller, you would delete every numbered folder except '02 XBOX HUD'. There are also 'Minimal' versions of these HUD's for each controller, although I do not know what the difference is between them. You can try them out by just making sure they are the only numbered folder in that directory, and if you don't like them, just re-add the regular folder and delete the minimal one.
Hypatia has some other Wind Waker mods that change character textures and shadowing in the game, if you feel like experimenting further: http://onthegreatsea.tumblr.com/
My system specs this has been tested with (See 'Graphics / Performance Troubleshooting' section for what settings to lower or experiment with on slower systems):
4790k @4.7ghz
980ti OC
Windows 7 64-bit
16gb DDR3 2133 ram
1TB SSD
1920x1080 120hz monitor
I kept the anti-aliasing setting low for this guide at 2x, but I use 8x MSAA for my setup, along with MFAA enabled in the nvidia control panel.
Feel free to PM me or reply here with any questions and/or comments. The Wind Waker is a beautiful experience with this all working correctly.
Cheers!

How does a 4k upscaling work on the Xbox One S?
Is it something like this, I play CS:GO on a 4k monitor with and set the settings to 720p. It then automatically upscales? Something like that? Isn't it what consoles have been doing for a long time. What's so special about this? Just wondering? Does the original Xbox One not have this?
Submitted by sznooped | #Specialdealer Special Offer Online Shopping Store 2016
PS4 PRO browser- Youtube can only display 720p
Am I doing something wrong? I enjoy using my brower version of youtube so I can read comments. Problem is the highest resolution I can pick is 720? It says missing options?
Is this right, even my old xbox can do full hd on the browser.

Ethics in the video game industry
This is a topic that I have been placing a bit of thought into the past couple years, and have come to the realization that I have a set level of expectation on how game development companies and system developers (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo) will treat their customers. One of the biggest issues for me is how the company treats the consumer (user) of their product.
For example, Ubisoft advertised an unfinished version of Watch Dogs, which had a significant downgrade in the released game's graphics compared to the E3 Demo. This wasn't a big deal to me as there are a myriad of reasons for an issue, but it can be seen as a part of a bigger issue with the way Ubi treats their customers.
Within the same game, the single-player campaign required the player to connect online to progress within the story. No connection/refuse to go online would result in the game sitting at an error window. I was enjoying the game to this point; then I boxed it up and returned it for a refund.
Microsoft is another such example, with both the Xbox 360 and Windows 7/8/10 debacles. Focusing on the 360 front, a patch was pushed to update the interface. Cool, except for the fact that the base model (Arcade) 360 didn't have enough memory for the update. Customers are forced to write Microsoft for a free memory card and wait, or go out and buy memory to be able to play their games.
At the same time, the update changed the menu from being game-oriented (example) to being an advertiser's wet dream (example). There is no way to disable the advertising, save from disconnecting your internet connection (which then results in every box showing "Connect to Xbox Live"). The game is relegated to a small box in the corner of the screen.
Surprisingly, I still kept my 360 (for Fable II and ME1). I tried to create a new account, and was greeted with an error. Logged on to the computer, finished, and went to playing. After several lockouts, I discovered that Microsoft implemented a policy to lock out users that had registered after a certain date and were not using MSN email. Sold the 360 and games; will not buy another Microsoft game product.
So, those are my hot-buttons for video games; I'm curious to see what others may have (or had).

Brand New 65" Samsung SUHD can't keep a steady wifi signal.
it's a KS8000 model. every other device in the apartment gets the wifi beautifully (including the xbox one directly underneath the tv) but in the last day I've used it, the tvs smart programs won't work because it "can connect to the wifi but not to the internet."
it finds the wifis (both the 5 and 2.4) just fine, but won't permanently connect to them. the router is one room away, no more than 40 ft, on the same floor. upon initial setup, YouTube at least worked fine on the 2.4. then later we signed into all of our streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Amazon) and tried to watch Hulu.
at first there were a bunch of errors like "key no longer valid, please try again" and "unable to connect, retry." I cycled between the two wifis and eventually got a connection that worked.
we got until the first commercial break and it lost connection. haven't gotten it back since.
I would be fine just resorting to using the xbox for streaming, but it maxes out at 720p...
please help! this is a new tv on a proven wifi network...I'm so frustrated.

Xbox Originals are really at 720p?
Hello, on Xbox 360, the Xbox Originals are really at 720p and look better than the first Xbox? Or it's still locked at 480p, just upscaled? Thanks.

Fallout 4 on an HD4670?
I have a Sapphire HD4670 512mb video card. My other system specs are an Asus P5Q motherboard, SSD, 6gb DDR2 RAM, and a non-overclocked (yet) Xeon X5450 swap. Overall this machine has made me happy with general use, and before this I'd not done any PC gaming besides emulation (5+ years almost using Linux exclusively, 4 of those with a 2ghz Conroe single core Celeron, lolz) so I was pleasantly surprised at how much better Fallout 3 looked on my computer at Ultra compared to a 360.
I've seen a few videos on youtube of people running it with an HD5450, and it looks pretty....bad. But most videos with my processor and a 750ti/etc look pretty good to me. But according to bench marks, the 4670 is a bit better than a 5450? I'd only be running it at 720P, as that's my TV's max resolution, if that increases the odds in my favor. All I'd like is for it to look approximately as good as it would from an Xbox One, and not run it at 800x600, etc.
If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. If what I want is a bit of a pipe dream on my current setup, it's OK, as I do eventually plan to upgrade my video card. However, I'm running a stock 250 or 300W PSU now, so my PSU would need to be upgraded, and I'd also need to overclocking it, too, then for OCing I'd need a better fan and cooler, etc, so I'd be looking at about $200 worth of stuff (that could go into a faster rig later.) But, I just don't want to be in a situation where I buy a game and it's unplayable for a few months until I spend more money to upgrade. I'd be OK with upgrading to 8gb RAM if that would help me, as that's only about $20.
Thanks very much!

First time builder. How's it look?
Build Help/Ready:
Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)
Yes.
What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.
Pretty much to have my own personal computer. I've been sharing a family PC for about 11 years now. My grandma bought us an all in one Dell computer last year and everyone always wants to go on it. My dad spends like 3 hours alone just playing Facebook games. When I get home from work I just wanna relax and go on the PC but I never can unless I'm off the next day. I don't play many PC games since I have both an Xbox 1 and and PS4 but majority of my time is spent playing League of Legends. I'm trying to really take the game seriously and climb to Challenger but I can't when I'm pretty much on a schedule because it's the family PC. Other games I play: GameCube/PS2 emulators, Trickster, Killing Floor 2, StarCraft 2, Diablo 3 and very little Overwatch/CSG. I also like watching Kodi on PC and twitch/YouTube. It's weird but the family PC doesn't even look like it's in HD. Is that because of the graphics? (Intel HD 4600).
If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, FPS, game settings)
For gaming, I don't really care about graphics. As long as the game is fun, that's all I really care about. I mostly care about graphics for the videos and streams I watch. If it's in 1080p I would like to see it in 1080p not the 720p it looks like on my PC. Resolution 1920x1080 and fps preferably 60 or more.
What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?
I was hoping my budget would be $500-800 since I don't really want/need a super computer for the games I play but most builds end up in the 1000, which is fine, it just delays buying a chair until next pay.
In what country are you purchasing your parts?
Canada.
Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Maybe not a detail but a question. Would building a PC jack up the price of bills? We already can't go on the PC from 5-7 because of on peak hours, I wouldn't want to make the bills just skyrocket. I'd be on the PC from 1pm-5pm if I'm off then 7pm-11pm if I work, if not 7pm-4am. If it will skyrocket I'm willing to help my dad pay the bills, how much would be a good amount to give him? Lastly how does the build look for a first timer? Is there anything that I should downgrade? If there is an instance where I should downgrade something I could downgrade then upgrade elsewhere.

Obs lagging/dropping frames
So I've been trying to set up a stream using my iMac (2.5 ghz Intel core i5), and the latest version of obs for Mac. I'll also be streaming games from my Xbox one through an elgato game capture hd(not the hd60).
My issue here is that on the obs preview, as well as on recordings, the video is very choppy. However on the elgato software Game display, it is just as smooth as my Xbox monitor. I want to stream to twitch but not till I get this problem fixed.
I've tried changing the source from game capture to window capture. I've tried tinkering with the bitrate output (from 500 to 3500). Nothing has worked.
I have pretty good Internet (~93k kbps down and upload speeds, as per speedtest.net).
I have the elgato set at 720p @60fps, and the obs reads 58-60 fps as well.
I will primarily be streaming first person shooters, and as of now it is almost unbearable to watch because of how chunky the video is.
Can anyone halp??

I recommended my friend an Xbox One S instead of a PC. Here's why.
Before I start this post, let me clarify that I believe that PCs are usually a lot more superior than all consoles. I even own a triple monitor battlestation with X99 & 1070 SLI (and love it!), three gaming mouses (G502, DA Chroma, MX Master), so needless to say, I am a true PCMR member. I wrote this post because while PCs are vastly superior to consoles, but as a PCMR member, consoles can be advantageous in certain areas, although little, and that PCMR should admit that fact.
Before you downvote this post and claim it Anti-PCMR and peasantry, I sincerely hope people read this thoroughly and judge based on their opinions.
Recently, my friend decided that his FIFA Online 3, a ripoff of FIFA 14 that has much more microtransactions, had to go. It was PC-only, and he had to play it on a shitty Samsung All-in-one with a Pentium & HD Graphics, so it lagged tremendously, and he wasn't having a very good experience. Nevertheless, he decided that he was going to move on to FIFA 17. Seeing me as someone who is remotely knowledgeable at Technology/Gaming, he asked me for a computer or not. I recommended him an Xbox.
Why? Here are a couple of reasons.
Cheaper An Xbox One S on eBay costs $280, and it plays reasonably well. I know 1080p @ 30fps sucks (Rocking a 1440p @ 120fps, heh), but upgrading from 720p @ 10~30fps to a 1080p 30fps is a very big upgrade. A decent PC that can play that costs around $400.
You might argue that value-wise that's not true at all. While I agree completely, that comes true when you're looking at a long term. As someone who spent a lot on Steam, I can definitely say that I've saved hundreds by sticking to PC, but as recommending a machine to someone who's going to use it exclusively for FIFA 17, I thought it would be unnecessary. He's not going to use Xbox Live Gold, or any online services, just FIFA.
Buy a PC anyway. I have no idea why, but shipping Xbox One from the US to Korea is fairly cheap, but shipping multiple components to Korea or a prebuilt is fairly expensive in customs. So you're going to end up with a $400 computer by paying $500.
Buying used is a very terrible option in South Korea. Decent PC hardware is very hard to come by and seeing some prebuilt PCs on Korean-eBay sites, you're better off building your own.
Accessible This collides into my first reason, but PC hardware is much harder to come by in Korea, and usually, it's risky if you buy it from offline dealers, or pricey due to customs if bought online.
Offline retailers are extremely sketchy, I've dealt with them very often. They live in a part of Seoul, the capital of Korea, called Dragon Hill. There's a specific place for dealing components, where all the offline dealers are located at. Here's the deal: If you don't know what you're buying, and paying for, you get scammed very, very easily. They convince you to buy shitty GPUs like a GT730 for the price of a GTX 750ti, saying that "MORE MEMORY!!!", when in reality, it's the type of the memory that is important; GDDR5 or DDR3. Anyway, I was afraid that he was going to get scammed when he gets there since I was really busy.
Ordering online is usually very safe, but customs messes up the price. You'd have to stare at the computer for hours to decide whether Amazon or in-Korea retailers will be cheaper, and like I mentioned above, I was out of time.
Xbox One can be ordered fairly easily through eBay. Customs aren't too expensive.
Personal Preference This is fairly simple. He tried out a controller and liked it more. Yes, you can plug in a Xbone controller, but that would require you to actually buy one, contrasted to being bundled with one.
Also, he has his meh-All-in-one, which is perfectly capable of anything non-intensive.
I'm open to anything you say. While I do love a civilized discussion, I don't want any L01Z c0ns013s suck you n00b pcmr 4ev3r, that would make the equivalent of a 'console peasant'.

Headless Gaming-PC Guide
Hey,
writing this down for other people who might find this useful. I recently build a setup in my home for gaming from the couch without having your computer directly connected or even in the same room, or if your computer is just a server in some closet.
Requirements:
- A PC with a Windows and Nvidia Gamestream working, sorry folks this is an Nvidia only guide
- Raspberry Pi or similar device that can run linux/chrome/windows/mac
- very good WLAN connection, but preferably 100mbit or Gigabit ethernet connection for both devices
- VGA Adapter (DVI to VGA or Displayport to VGA)
Setup your server like a normal windows desktop computer. Activate the Streaming option in Geforce Experience (Settings -> Shield) if there is no Shield option on the left then reinstall Geforce Experience. Make sure you are not making these settings via RDP because Geforce Experience seems to hide or disable some features while connecting via Remote Desktop.
There is no need for special software Steam is probably a good idea because Big Picture is pretty nice to have. What is annoying about windows or gamestream is that you need to have a screen connected otherwise it won't work. Some guide recommend a software called powerstrip, which I tried and had no success with, some recommend a little HDMI plug that acts as a monitor but it's pretty expensive IMO for like 40 euro in my country. I followed this guide instead because I had an adapter lying around https://macminicolo.net/blog/files/build-a-dummy-dongle-for-a-headless-mac-mini.html
After some unplugging, replugging and changing the resolution while having another screen connected you should be able to connect to your server by using this software on your phone, other pc or whatever it's just for testing purposes http://moonlight-stream.com/ While pairing to your server you will have to attach a screen again and probably disconnect your adatper, because RDP sessions seem to kill the nvidia dialog again. I haven't tried teamviewer yet, this might be a nicer option for the future if it works.
Install the moonlight software mentioned earlier on your device of choice, mine is a raspberry pi 3 just simple running vanilla raspbian with GUI. On my Pi after installing the software I can simply run
moonlight pair
and it should find your server running gamestream. Enter the pin shown in the console on your device back on your server, maybe try teamviewer or attach your monitor and detach the vga adapter.
I setup my pi to just launch into moonlight, so I just added
moonlight stream
to my .bashrc you can add option such as -1080 to only stream in 1920x1080 the default is 1280x720 at 60 fps. Just type
moonlight
to find out more about the options in moonlight.
So, that's it. You can use a lot of other devices as clients instead of the raspberry pi the Nvidia Shield should also work great. I have a Xbox 360 controller just attached to my raspberry pi and it worked straight out of the box.
If you have any questions be sure to ask me!

Looking for a mod creator
Hi all,
I'm looking for someone to make a small mod for me, for use on xbox one.
In it's simplest form, I'd like to increase the maximum value of the sleep/wait timer from 24 to a customisable number, i.e. 720 = 24*30, to wait for a mine to respawn.
Could also include - an option to wait 1-30 days instead of 1-24 hours. - incrementing slider, so that it increases in increments of 5 hours for instance...
Also. Yes, I am aware of the No Boring Sleep-Wait Menu Mod. If this was on xbox that'd be great. I have contacted the developer to see if he can bring it to xbox, no response yet.

Having to visually handicap my game in several ways for a game that shouldn't really need it.
My specs are as follows: -Windows 10 -Nvidia GeForce GTX 940M 4GB on GeForce Game Ready Driver ver. 376.33 -Intel 15-6200u 2.3-2.8 gHz -8GB DDR4 Memory -(Acer Aspire F-15 Laptop Model) -Using Wired xBox360 controller -> [All in all, just slightly less powerful than PS4 / XBOne] I beat the game for the first time on PC back in October. I've been having the same issue since then, but it's gotten to the point where I could really use some help from some kind of wizard who has already solved this issue (possibly.) I have to run the game in 720p in very low settings. I have also turned off antisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing in Nvidia control panel just to get a mild FPS boost. I have used Nvidia inspector to cap the game at 30fps so there isn't a janky frame swing when I look at certain visually taxing objects. I don't understand why I had to do this, as I can play plenty of other more visually demanding games on much better settings. It may not mean much considering its usual inaccuracy, but GeForce experience also claims that I could play it at much higher settings if I wanted to as well. Something I have noticed, however, is that the game becomes exponentially more taxing with each level of resolution you go up. It feels like there shouldn't be this much of a difference. In the past I wrote this off as shoddy porting, like they didn't design it to capitalize on a user's hardware, but I feel like there has to be a way. If Durante could make DS1 play as well as it did, surely someone else has figured out a way to boost performance. Any help would be appreciated.

Just a reminder to everyone whining about Breath of the Wild not running at 1080p 30FPS and such...
...Most open world games DO NOT run at 30 FPS, on PS4, Xbox One or Switch (upcoming).
They sacrifice resolution usually in these games for frame rate. The developers would rather the game still look pretty on the eyes, while maintaining a good frame rate. Just google searching "What frame rate does GTA 5 run at" gives you that right there from Rockstar. It runs at 1080p, sure, but the game drops frames like a madman at times of intense action, similar to BotW on the Wii U in the past.
No open world game runs at 60 FPS, and most of them run at 900p graphics. This is to ensure the best and most stable FPS, while keeping the game looking good. And if people bring up stuff like Dragon Quest Heroes 2, the Switch version is apparently a direct port of the PS3 version. Koei Tecmo / Square did this I assume to test the waters with the Switch, but also it could be from generally laziness. Who knows. Also, apparently people are saying it was running from the Switch undocked, meaning it was less in quality regardless. Again, who knows.
What I do know though, is that BotW is not the first game to run at 900p 30 FPS. Look at this video here of Dragon Age: Inquisition
As you can see, on the PS4 version, which is 1080p it runs it with drops as low as 24 FPS. While on Xbox One it's usually a steady 30 FPS with a few small drops here & there; but runs at 900p. The difference in visuals is BARELY noticeable. So running BotW at 1080p would barely change anything besides a few small textures here & there that no one would care to notice.

Keeps turning off on its own
I've had the 360 slim for a while and when I first got it (used form a pawn shop) it sometimes would beep (same beep sound when you turn it on) and power off on its own. Considering I payed little for it, I slapped it a few times and it worked fine for about a year. Just recently though it started doing the same thing. It'll turn on, I'll change the display to either 1080 or 720p and it'll beep like a little b$$ch and turn off again. Tried not changing the resolution and it still will turn off. Not sure if it's the power supply or something internally wrong? Anybody have this happen to theirs too? There are no red rings at all.

[Build Help] Twitch console streaming from a couch. Would love a look over on this build.
What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.
Hi /r/buildapc! I've been streaming on Twitch for a couple of weeks now using an Xbox One and the Kinect, and have had a ton of fun with it! After thinking it over for a few days, I'd like to build a PC to stream console with (especially for when the Switch releases!). For this I will be streaming from the couch, with the webcam on a tripod and the microphone on a small table next to be with the 2nd monitor. The main monitor will be my TV.
If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, FPS, game settings)
I'm mainly going to be using this just for streaming console. 1080p and 60FPS would be great, however I'm not even sure if my internet upload is good enough (I'm around 4-5mb upload). 1080 or 720 @ 30 might be what I end up going with. Although if you guys think I could do 60FPS, I'd spend a bit more to do it.
What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?
For just the PC, I'd like for it to be around $600ish? The PC Part picker list puts it around that, adding on the capture card, webcam, and mic obviously increases that. Right now the total is at about $850 which is good. I'd probably be willing to go a bit higher but honestly not by a whole lot.
In what country are you purchasing your parts?
USA!
**Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). [Consider formatting your parts list.]
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Dg8HJV
Edit: I did see there was a compatibility note about the RAM, will that be a huge issue?
Provide any additional details you wish below.
I'd just like to give a big thank you to anyone who has any advice. I haven't built a PC in an extremely long time (last time was around 2007...intel core 2 duo and an nvidia geforce 7900 were a couple of the parts I remember). I've been out of the game for a long while and any tips would be fantastic.

Denon receiver issue
I bought a Denon AVR S720W Black Friday and I am having an issue with it. I have an xbox one S, directv genie, Samsung blu ray player, and HTPC hooked up to my AVR, and then from there to a Vizio P-50 C1 through ARC. When I turn on my TV usually my receiver turns on and then displays the source and audio like normal. But recently, when I turn it on, the TV will sometimes blink with the picture for a second, and then I only hear the sound. Sometimes I don't get sound or picture, and sometimes just picture. It's really odd. I tried swapping the HDMI cord, no change. I unplugged it for several minutes and plugged it back in, that worked the first time I turned it back on, but then it went back to normal. I usually have to turn the tv and receiver on and off a bunch for it to work. I thought the receiver might be over heating, but it happens after the receiver has been for for several hours in a cold basement(65F).
Am I screwed and my receiver is taking a shit on me? Is there a firmware update that can fix it?

New PC with GPU usage dropping
PC Specs: - i3 6100 3.7Ghz with the stock cooler - PowerColor RX460 4GB VRAM - 2x8gb Kingston DDR4 2133mhz - MoBo Asus H110M-C - PSU Corsair CX600 - HDD Seagate 3,5 1TB - W10 Home SL - Monitoring program @ MSI Afterburner with the Unified GPU Monitoring enabled
Hello guys,
I've been experiencing some issues when playing Battlefield 1 and GTA V. I do know the i3 is below the minimum reqs. but it performs well in both games. I usually set both games at 1080p. Battlefield 1 everything is @Low besides either FXAA or TAA. GTA V most settings are @Very High and a few others @High. What happens is whenever I am in the middle of a huge fight in Battlefield 1 my GPU usage drops to 60-75% and my FPS drops as well to around 50s. It also happens in servers with less players, e.g. 32p. In GTA V it happens in the middle of the city for instance, the usage drops to the 70% and the FPS to the 40's. In both games it doesn't matter if I set a lower resolution or a resolution scale or even graphics settings. GTA V will achieve almost 80FPS when not in town if I set 1600x900 but as soon as I enter the city it'll drop the usage and the FPS to the same 40's. Same for Battlefield 1. When the usage is around 90% my frames even in demanding maps such as Empire's Edge will be around 75-90 (64 players server). If I set to 1600x900 it'll drop as well. Same if I put 1080p with res. scale around 90%, what would turn into a 1728x972 resolution.
As I have explained the problem I'll also list everything I did so far in order to fix this issue:
Things related to the Motherboard:
- Updated the BIOS twice, with one version first (2001) and another today (3019);
- Disabled HT - nothing changed, set it on again;
- Disabled Speedstep - nothing changed, enabled back;
- Set the GPU as the primary adapter, no changes at all;
Things related to the system:
- Tried both W7 Home, W8.1 Pro and W10 Home January version and Anniversary Edition;
- Disabled Peek inside the Performance tab @ System settings;
- Disabled Virtual Memory, still the same;
- Set the Power Settings to 'High Performance';
- Unparked my cores (no performance increase or decrease);
- Uninstalled all built-in apps, disabled Windows Defender, Windows Update;
- Disabled XBOX DVR and Cortana as well.
Things related to Crimsons driver (Uninstalled all of them using DDU and AMD Cleanup Utility):
- Drivers used (16.11.4, 16.12.2, 17.1.1)
- Set the Wattman power limit to 50+;
- Changed the RX fan speed from Auto to 90%, nothing changed.
Related to the game:
- Disabled both Origin and Steam in-game/Overlay;
- In Battlefield 1 whenever I set DX12 instead of DX11 I have a stable GPU usage (around 90-99% even in lower resolutions like 1280x720) and frames ranging less, although it stutters a lot because even if I lock my framerates the CPU usage will always be around 95-100%, which causes these said stutterings - I don't know what I did a few days ago but fortunately for a few matches I played with less CPU usage and a stable GPU usage, but as I soon as I closed the game and opened it back it all started again.
The programs I have are:
- Steam;
- Origin;
- Battlefield 1;
- Teamspeak;
I have no idea what is going on with this pc. What bothers me is that a GeForce 750Ti in 1600x900 or 1080p 90% resolution scale keeps the usage around 90-99% and the frames 80+ even during heavy fight with the same i3. Same for a GTX950 or a 1050. I don't know the reason behind this, if it is related to drivers or motherboard. I found a thread with not enough information but it seemed that the OP had the same Motherboard, a i5 6500 and a RX470 and had GPU usage drops as well in several games. That is why I don't know if it is the MoBo or the GPU or the PSU or anything.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

[Tech] Help with screen glitching/tearing/blurring
Around mid Nov I bought a Samsung 6300 50" 4K LED TV.
It's great, I love the TV, but I've had random screen glitching since I got it.
It only happens when I'm using my Xbox, never when on YouTube, Netflix, or TV. Everything will be normal, and then at random times the display will smear colors/gameplay for a second and snap back into place.
The best way I can describe it, is if you look at a 3D picture which has that blurry red and blue effect, but only for a second or two. Then the system self corrects the picture.
I've tried 2 different HDMI cables, and it never did it on my old 32" Bravia 720P TV. Is it an Xbox problem, HDMI problem, or TV settings problem?
Thanks.

Tips for running bioshock on the GPD WIN for those who need it.
I don't know how many people will need this, but i find it useful, and at least one other user hear one of these issues:
1) Enabling Xbox 360 controller input in Game
So, unlike many other games that enable the use of an Xbox 360 either when it's connected, or when the game is started and a controller is connected, bioshock has Xbox controllers disabled by default and will never automatically enable the controller (atleast from my experience.). The game requires you to connect the controller, then navigate to the control options using the non controller friendly, non touch friendly interface. They expect you to use a mouse to navigate, and the controller must be connected for the "user Xbox 360 controller" option to be available, so both the controller and mouse need to be connected in order to enable the controller, and without an external most, this isn't possible on the win. So here's the workaround: User mouse mode to navigate into options, then customise controls. Mouse over either the "on" or "off" button next to the "use Xbox 360 controller" option. Notice that is greyed out because you're not in xinput mode, and clicking will do nothing. Now enable xinput. You'll see the "use Xbox 360 controller" option light up, and default to off. You're expected to use a mouse to enable this, then hit apply, but as I said earlier that's not possible for us without an external most. Now your cursor should be highlighting either the on or off button next to the"use Xbox 360 controller" option. Click either 'a' or 'd' on your keyboard. You should see the"use Xbox 360 controller" option change from off to on. But you still dont have a mouse! How will you click apply? Flip the switch back to most mode, you'll see the option grey out again. Don't flip back to xinput yet or the "use Xbox 360 controller" option will switch back to off. Click apply with your mouse, but don't leave options yet, do not return to the main menu. Now flip back into xinput mode. After a second the options menu will automatically close, and you will be sent to a slightly different, controller friendly main menu. You can now play the game with xinput
2) Fix some graphical issues
When you start your game you may notice that there are some pretty weird graphical glitches. These didn't show up for me at first, but around the second time I played the game, all the shadows were messed up, the right side of the screen was black, and the bottom of the screen was white. Turns out that the resolution the game defaults to when you start it (and yes, you'll need to repeat this Everytime you start the game) messes up the games graphics. The default resolution, seems to be 1280x600. To fix this just go into options, open the graphics settings and change the resolution to 1280x720. This is the resolution of the screen on the GPD win, and it seems to fix all the graphical glitches I mentioned earlier.
3) Fix the game window after leaving sleep mode
After exiting sleep mode the game is no longer full screen on my device, the fix for this is easy. I'm sure there's multiple ways to fix this, like maybe Enabling windowed mode, then disabling it, but I feel like mine is pretty simple. Simply open the graphics option, change the resolution to anything and hit a, then press b and it will return you to whatever resolution you had before, and it will be Fullscreen again.
4) Fix the game opening but only occupying 3/4ths of the screen
I usually only see this after a restart or after having the device in sleep mode for a long period of time. I found two fixes, I'll list them both, just in case some of you aren't comfortable with option one for some reason. First, this is the method I use, and it's just opening task manager (ctrl+shift+esc for those who don't know), killing the process (mysteriously called bioshock.exe!), and restarting it. The other option is waiting for the menu to load, then either closing it from there and reopening it (this is great for people who like long game introduction sequences) or just changing the resolution in the graphics settings like I mentioned earlier.
5) How to make the game start in 'controller mode'
This is as simple as making sure you are in xinput mode before opening the game. If you don't, you'll have to repeat the steps listed in step one, which is simple enough. I almost always forget to set my GPD WIN to xinput mode, so I'm usually doing the trick I mentioned earlier to enable xinput.
I hope this helped someone. Thanks for reading.

[RTAC!] Ford Mustang Cobra Trans Am at Road America (Reddit Time Attack Challenge)
Welcome! Bring your lead foot to this Project CARS
Reddit Time Attack Challenge!
• Track: Road America
• Car: 1997 Ford Mustang Cobra TransAm
• Deadline: 6:00 AM GMT/UTC Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017.
...And if you're feeling inspired, dust off the game's photo mode and show us a juicy photo of this snarling beast on the prowl.
• • • Provisional Event Standings • • •
# | Lap Time | Driver | Optional Photos |
---|---|---|---|
02:06.780 | 1Operator | photo |
Standings will be regularly updated here until the event deadline.
Results not final until event deadline, after entries are verified via one of the methods listed in Rule #2 below.
3 Simple Rules:
#1. Drive your own new clean/valid lap for this event (no old lap records previously set) in Time Trial mode. (No in-game penalties for off-track corner-cutting or contact, no cheats/exploits/hacks/glitches/mods, etc.)
#2. Post your fastest clean lap time here on this thread as a top-level comment with any of the following for confirmation:
• a link to a publicly accessible video or screenshot image including your pause screen from your Time Trial session with a clear view of your best clean lap time (please trim videos to include only your fastest clean lap)
• or, players on PC/Steam who run their lap(s) for this event in Time Trial mode can instead just provide their username as it appears on the Project CARS official in-game PC leaderboards (if their event entry matches their listing on this specific in-game track+car leaderboard)
#3. "Be excellent to each other." Be nice to fellow participants and keep the atmosphere fun & inclusive for all. Obey Wheaton's Law.
All are welcome & encouraged to participate as long as you follow those 3 simple rules.
Run your laps any way you want:
• any platform (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
• any assists (or none)
• any tuning setup
• any peripherals (wheel, controller/gamepad, keyboard, VR, etc.)
• any settings/configs
• as many attempts as you want before the event deadline
Don't be shy - just do your best and enjoy yourself! It doesn't matter if you're wicked fast, or if you're new to the game, or anywhere in between. It's all in good fun. :)
Quick tips:
• This car is very slippery on cold tires, but it grips well on warm tires.
• This car's brakes have great stopping power, but the car's weight can pitch forward dramatically under braking, significantly unsettling the car & momentarily leaving the rear tires with very little grip. (I found this behavior was a bit more manageable when I increased the Brake Mapping tuning setting all the way to its maximum value.)
Good luck & have fun!

Movie of the week:Falling Down
1993 thriller film directed by Joel Schumacher and written by Ebbe Roe Smith.
The film stars Michael Douglas in the lead role of William Foster, a divorcé and unemployed former defense engineer.
The film centers on Foster as he treks on foot across the city of Los Angeles, trying to reach the house of his estranged ex-wife in time for his daughter's birthday party
Along the way, a series of encounters, both trivial and provocative, cause him to react with increasing violence and make sardonic observations on life, poverty, the economy, and commercialism.

Heads up for OG on 360 players (How to make it SMOOTHER!)
Get an original Xbox! :P
Just kidding, although that will provide a smoother framerate than playing on a 360. Due to the nature of the games being emulated, your beautiful 360 has to work harder than usual to get that game going on your awesome carnage setup. Particularly the worst combination you can find yourself in would be playing PAL Halo at 720p with a wireless controller!
Here's some helpful info I know regarding game performance!
If you have an LCD and/or flatscreen TV that is five or less years old, check around menus for a "Game" display option or mode, which should minimize the impact the TV itself has on the delay that you see frames! If your TV has an intelligent smoothing option, or can interpolate frames (make animations appear smoother), that can also have an effect. Turning them off will help ensure your TV has as minimal an effect on your game as it would allow.
Set your console to 480p (for Halo 2 you may optionally toggle widescreen, but it will be a tad choppier). Sadly even though both games render at 480p regardless of whatever settings you use, the 360 will upscale it if your console is set to display at a higher resolution. The visual impact will be that the image appears slightly smoother, depending on whether your TV has bulit in upscaling, however the actual game rendering image will be identical. This will bring Halo 1's framerate from ~10 to ~20/~30 depending on the game region and number of local players. Halo 2 runs pretty well at any resolution so this is less necessary for the sequel. Changing to 4:3 480p however will change the splitscreen mode for 2 players from side by side to above and below like in CE. This is a preference thing really. The HUD also stretches in Widescreen modes (it always has) so you may prefer 4:3's slight framerate boost and splitscreen mode.
Use a WIRED controller! Wireless controllers bring a slight delay to the table of latency (also on Xbox One) and running wired can give you a slight reflex edge. You may not perceive it initially, but over time, you may notice a very small increase in response time with the controls.
And finally, play an NTSC (North America or Asia) version of either game. Halo 1 wasn't ported to PAL completely accurately and the walking and grenade timer speeds are 17.5% slower. The whole game additionally feels slightly sluggish as the game only renders 20FPS maximum instead of NTSC's 30FPS. It's worth noting however that due to changes in physics, the developers changed the networking ports in the PAL version so that you can only play multiplayer with same-region copies of Halo 1. Additionally certain map exploits such as the bridge shortcuts in Assault On The Control Room are different due to timing differences.
Halo 2 doesn't suffer so much, supporting PAL60 on release. The game will run at an identical framerate, but still displays 20FPS maximum (50Hz) by default on an Xbox 360. You can change this by selecting "No" when asked if 50Hz displays correctly on your console. (If you already set your console to 480p, change back and then select 480p again). This will force the game to run at PAL60 mode, and the game will play identical to an NTSC copy. PAL and NTSC players can also play together in Halo 2.
Sorry if this was a messy and long post, but I found that in Xbox VS Xbox 360 system link matches, these changes help offset the disadvantages bestowed upon Xbox 360 players.
You could always give the 360 player the onhost advantage however...
