I have had it with CableOne and the DATA CAPS***

Home ISP data caps are causing unnecessary anxiety. I am so sick of getting nasty grams from CableOne about my internet usage. Prior to having CableOne I had century link 25Mbs a second, and they have no data cap in my area. It worked great for streaming very rarely did i have buffering issues. We have since moved and CenturyLink only offered 12Mbs in my new nieghborhood. So I decided to use cable one and wow that has been a huge mistake. My wife works from home and. I signed up for the entry level plan. 300 gb a month. Went over for 3 months in a row and got upraded to the next level of 500 gb a month. Just got my second notice that if I go over 1 more time they are upgrading me again. next highest plan is 700gb and we used 915gb last month. I have dropped my netflix quality down to the low setting. I have turned off automatic updates on my xbox. If we still go over 500gb and get upgraded to the next plan(which is over 100 dollars month) I will be cancelling and switching the century link for 12Mbs. I do not see the point of having high speeds if I cannot even use them, and am forced to lower all the quality settings. I will probably be able to stream at least 720p video with 12 Mbs from centurylink and pay less than half the cost of what CableOne is charging. Data Caps in 2017 are starting to get super old wish my area had more competition.

Xbox One X Fan issue

So I just received my Xbox One X and when I turn it on immediately the fan kicks on full force and will no shut off unless I fully power down my console. I’m curios if either I have a defective console or if maybe it’s working so hard to downscale to fit on my dinosaur 720p tv. Just want to know what the cause of this is. Consoles has room on all sides and isn’t warm at all. Please Help!

Gameplay and Systems

Dauntless is a challenging game that pushes you to improve your skills as a Slayer and become an invaluable member of hunting parties. We believe that a legend is forged, not purchased.

What weapons are available?

The Sword, Axe, Hammer and Chain Blades are currently available. The War Pike has been announced and will be introduced in December’s Sharpen Your Skills update. We're still planning to announce many more weapons, including a weapon that focuses on ranged combat.

Will there be ranged weapons?

Yes. We are planning to have at least one ranged weapon. The War Pike is our first foray into ranged combat — let us know what you think!

Does Dauntless have classes?

Dauntless does not feature a traditional "class system.”

Instead, each weapon will have its own unique attacks, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.

We want players to be able to approach each situation dynamically by changing their loadout without locking anyone into a rigid role.

Will Dauntless have crafting?

Yes! Crafting of weapons, armour, lanterns, and items is made possible by acquiring materials gathered in the Shattered Isles.

You will gather materials by slaying behemoths, focusing on breaking particular parts of behemoths (such as horns or tails), and by completing from quests.

Will there be one continuous world, or will Dauntless use instances?

You will form your hunting party in Ramsgate and then head off to one of many instanced islands. Islands are seamless and do not have loading zones.

Is there friendly fire?

No. Your attacks do not cause damage to fellow slayers and it does not interrupt their movement.

Will there be smaller Behemoths on islands?

While we do have multi-Behemoth encounters, we are not planning to have smaller or lesser version of behemoths roaming around. However, there are smaller creatures (like rams!) roaming around that you can interact with.

Will there be “named” behemoths?

There are, in fact, rumours of especially terrifying and deadly behemoths that carry their own legends...

Will there be larger behemoths for parties larger than four?

We're committed to making making 4-player encounters as fun as we can. We may explore larger encounters in the future, but four slayers is the maximum at launch.

Will Dauntless have PvP?

Dauntless will not have PvP at launch, but we are looking into these elements for the future. Let us know what you think!

Can armour be modified or tweaked?

Yes. Slayers can modify and optimize their gear using the cell system, which you can learn more about here.

Will Dauntless feature arts/mounting?

We want to nail down the core of Dauntless combat before moving onto systems like mounting,etc. Combat will be fast, visceral, and satisfying — and there will be ways to differentiate your combat style with different weapon special attacks.

Will there be pets?

We are not planning on having combat-enabled pets at launch. Tweet @Gtez and bug him about it!

Will there be cooking?

Probably not at launch. We have a lot of dedicated cooks and gourmands in the studio, though, so don't be surprised if making tasty treats becomes a part of Dauntless in the future.

Social Systems

Will Dauntless have guilds/clans?

Yes! You can learn more about guilds in this blog post.

Will there be leaderboards or a similar feature?

Some of our favorite memories in gaming involve cooperative competition and we want to bring those experiences to Dauntless. We're experimenting with the best way to do that. If it's leaderboards, then we will pursue that.

Will there be trading?

No. For many reasons, including that we really want players to OWN their own victories. Much like we're against "pay for power", we want players' presentation to reflect their experiences.

Will Dauntless support official speedrunning?

We're big fans of the speedrunning community and appreciate the potential for truly epic runs and the benefit this would bring to the game. We are working to explore speedrunning and how we can support this community. :TriHard:

World and Story

Dauntless takes place in the world of the Shattered Isles. It is a savage, untamed land of floating islands, mysterious power, and deadly adventure. As a Slayer, your legend begins in the city of Ramsgate . Your duty is to defend humanity from the onslaught of deadly creatures known as Behemoths.

Will I make my own character?

Yes! You'll start by creating your Slayer from scratch. From there, you'll change their abilities by crafting weapons and armour.

What is Ramsgate?

Ramsgate is the social center where you meet and interact with fellow Slayers, enhance and craft gear and embark on missions. It's a living, breathing place that we know you'll love spending time in.

Will Dauntless have a story/lore?

Yes! Absolutely! The Shattered Isles is a living, breathing place with a history and a future that you will help shape.

Will there be seasonal content?

Optoma H30A Problems

I bought an Optoma H30A from eBay, hooked it up to my Xbox 360, 720p 50hz, everything is groovy.. the problem is, using the same HDMI to DVI cable, neither my pi running openelec or my boxee is seen. Projector just says no signal. Plug the 360 back in, everything is fine, it's picked up straight away. Any ideas?

Xbox One S Steep is Pixelated, blurry, and awful graphics

Hey all,

I've had the game since launch and I was playing on a 720p TV until one month ago.

I just bought a Sony x900e 4K TV and Steep looks incredibly pixelated and awful. I have tried changing the tv settings based on many different review websites and tried everything possibly to get the graphics to look better.

I have the One S and other HDR games are not as pixelated or blurry. Steep looks exactly the same on my old 720p TV as it does on my new 4K tv.

Does anyone have any insight?

I have tried multiple HDMI cables, different inputs on the TV, multiple google searches but I just can't figure it out.

Is this game just not as graphically powerful for 4K TVs?

Help! Screens flicker when using hdmi switch

I'm attempting to connect my Xbox one to a hdmi switch that is connected to 2 displays. Display 1 is a 4K tv Display 2 is 720p I'm using high speed hdmi cables for all connections.

The switch will work when only 1 display is plugged in. The screens flicker when the 2nd display is connected.

Any ideas? I'm exhausted!

Dualshock 3 on PS4! analog Cross and Square throttle and braking control on through controller emulation and PS4 Remote Play + setup guide with downloads!

EDIT: Formatting

I have come up with a (not perfect) solution to the Dualshock 4 only having digital face buttons. I was pretty bummed when i found out the Dualshock 4 controller had replaced the analog face buttons with digital only buttons when i had first started playing Gran Turismo Sport. I tried to deal with the other control schemes to get some means of throttle control but as a long time GT player having been raised on Cross and Square for throttle and braking it was pretty difficult and very pretty alien to me. so i figured the dualshock 3 had analog face buttons could do the trick, but that was quickly burried as it was incompatible with the PS4 directly and there were no means to connect it to the console directly. Then it hit me. Why not spoof the PS4 into thinking my Dualshock 3 is a Dualshock 4 and just remap the buttons with the triggers since those were analog! a couple days of experimentation and lots of trail and error finally led me to a technical success!

This method is not ideal and comes with some big sacrifices but if you're as stubborn as me about controls you should at least give it a try! Basically what my method boils down to is using a Dualshock 3 controller connected to my PC running Better DS3 to emulate an X-Box 360 controller, swapping the Dualshock 3's analog Cross and Square buttons to the triggers of the emulated X-Box 360 controller and then emulating the already emulated X-Box 360 controller to Dualshock 4. PS4 Remote Play PC only lets you use a Dualshock 4 controller. unless you spoof said controller to make it think it is a Dualshock 4 controller. This means you can have a functioning Dualshock 3 controller to use on a remote play PS4. But there are drawbacks to this method.

You will be playing on a remote ps4 from your and you may end up with input lag if your internet cant keep up with game streaming especially on WiFi, and it will definitely not be the same quality as your PS4. Original and Slim PS4's can remote play 720p at 60 fps max and PS4 Pro can handle 1080p 60 fps max. Using LAN connections for both your PC and PS4 can help get rid of some lag as well as frame rate and quality can decrease lag so it's up to your preference.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO GET STARTED

A PS4 and a copy of GT Sport (duh).
A Dualshock 3 controller and a Mini USB cable.
A streaming capable PC with a very good internet speed to match (LAN connections for both the PC and PS4 are highly recommended).
PS4 Remote Play.
Better DS3 and the original DS3 Tool's Motioninjoy Xinput driver to convert the Dualshock 3 to X-Box 360 and to remap the controls.
Visual C++ for Visual Studio 2015.
Watch this video and follow it's instructions for the emulated Xbox 360 controller to Dualshock 4 emulation. Text instructions for these steps are also included in this guide.

Knowledge of how to use the Windows Device Manager to change drivers as well as a command prompt.
Turn off Driver Signing Enforcement in Windows

SETUP AND INSTALLATION

1.0 Getting your PS4 ready to remote play.

Navigate to the Settings screen and select Remote Play Connection Settings then enable Remote Play.
Navigate to the Power Save settings and select Set Features Available in Rest Mode. Then enable both Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS4 from Network.
Put your system into Rest Mode and then go to your PC.

2.0 Getting your PC ready for remote play

Run the Command prompt as an Administrator and enter the following text without quotations. "bcdedit /set testsigning on" and restart your PC, This will disable Driver Signature Enforcement and allow you to install the necessary drivers. If you ever have to turn Driver Signature Enforcement back on enter the following text without quotations "bcdedit /set testsigning off".
Open your web browser of choice and download the PS4 Remote Play PC application and install.
Download both the Better DS3 tool and the Motioninjoy Xinput driver and install.

3.0 Configuring drivers and remapping buttons

connect your Dualshock 3 controller, It should start installing a default Playstation driver which needs to be replaced by our driver so Better DS3 can recognize the controller.
Open Device manager and look for the PlayStation controller under Human Interface Devices and open it. The controller may be listed as a USB Input Device so you may have to single out which one it is.
Go to the Drivers tab and select Update driver and Browse my computer for driver software.
Select Let me pick form a list of all available drivers form my computer. Then select Have Disk.
Select browse and navigate to C:\Program Files\MotioninJoy\ds3\drivers and chose MijXinput.inf. then select the motioninjoy driver and it should change the device to an X-Box 360 peripheral in device manager.
Open Better DS3 and check to see that the application sees the controller.
Go to New and select Xinput and select Autofill: XBox 360 then match your settings to these settings and save and apply the profile. you can test to see how the buttons respond under Control Panel and selecting your controller.
Download and install Visual C++ for Visual Studio 2015.

4.0 Video intermission!

Unzip all the required files (Devcon.rar ViGEmBusDriver.zip and VXD.rar)
Place Devcon.exe in C:\Windows\System32
Open the ViGEmBusDriver folder and navigate to the drivers folder. place the contents of either the 32 or 64 bit drivers folder depending on your PC configuration into C:\Windows\System32
Run Command prompt as an administrator and enter the following text without quotations to install the drivers.

"devcon.exe install ViGEmBus.inf Root\ViGEmBus" and select Install. If you ever have to remove the drivers enter the following text without quotations. "devcon.exe remove Root\ViGEmBus" .

Run either the VXD.exe or VXD_x64.exe depending on your PC configuration. The player one slot should say connected. change player one emulation type from X-Box 360 Controller to Dualshock 4 Controller and press connect

5.0 We're almost there!

Run the PS4 Remote Play application and follow the onscreen instructions to add your PS4. Make sure both your PC and PS4 are on the same network and that your PS4 is in Rest Mode. it should power on and connect to your computer after a little while.

*Depending on your network environment you may experience some input lag or quality issues. Experiment with alternate quality settings within the PS4 Remote play application.

Test the functionality of your controller. Remember that your controller's Cross and Square buttons are swapped with the L2 and R2! Open Gran Turismo Sport and test the functionality of the analog buttons. If you run into any problems double check that the drivers are correctly installed and that Better DS3 and ViGEm recognizes the inputs.

If you made it this far without any issues then CONGRATULATIONS!!! you have successfully completed the setup guide and you're playing Gran Turismo Sport with classic controls! albeit a little laggy and doesn't look as clean. Your completed setup should look like this If you're having trouble with the installation or setup leave a comment and ill try to get back to you as soon as i can.

Looking for a gaming 2 in 1, if it exists

Total budget and country of purchase: USA, ~$1200
Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. 2 in 1 if possible
How important is weight and thinness to you? Not a big deal, most of the 2 in 1's are similar enough
Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming is the only thing. I was looking at the Lenovo yoga 720 but was wondering if there is something with a 1060 instead of the 1050.
If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Best I can do, currently game on an xbox but am going to have to travel a lot for work so I would like to be able to game wherever I am without having to rely on there being a TV and bringing my xbox.
Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? N/A, all the same to me
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I am looking for a gaming 2 in 1 that has a 1060 or better if possible. I don't know if such a thing exists but I haven't been able to find it. I think a 1050 would be fine but I want to be able to use the laptop for as long as possible without having to upgrade. My current laptop is a decade old, literally, and so I am not doing any current gaming on it. I would ideally like to be able to run most AAA titles, though it doesn't have to be at ultra settings. If there isn't a 2 in 1 that fits this criteria then it makes my search much easier as there are a good number of options that fit my criteria as far as I can tell. Thank you for any advice you can give.

Side note: I looked at the predator when it was on sale but was put off by the gaming look of it, and the fact that that it said predator on it. I work at children's hospitals so a more professional look would be great if I have to take it into work.

Wishlist for Halo 6 - Ways to improve on a solid base. [Long Post]

As it stands - Halo 5 is probably the biggest mixed bag of a game I have ever played. Parts of it were by far my favourite they have been, but there is still a lot to improve on. Here is a wishlist for Halo 6.

Story

Explanation for Cortana's actions - for me this would be through clear reference to the logic plague and a bit of history on how it has existed before and corrupted AI in the past.
More Chief and Blue Team but also still members of Osiris - I liked the contrasting characters but wished they interacted more and were more fleshed out. I wouldn't mind a few from either team dying early on, setting up high stakes, while also giving a reason for both teams to come together.
Longer story with slightly more exposition. My biggest issue with Halo 4 and 5 is that things happen with virtually no set-up in game. I love Halo 4s story, but I'm also a big fan of the EU, so I know the significance of the Didact and the Forerunners. To a new player, it would be very confusing. Same goes for Blue Team in Halo 5, as well as the Guardians (and the logic plague, if it does end up being used). We are often just shown things that we have no idea existed, even though the characters in game seem to.
The Didact. Such a great villain introduced at the start of the trilogy - in my opinion he should come back and eventually be redeemed. He should acknowledge that the Forerunners failed to uphold the mantle, and that humanity must pass the final test left by the Precursors - Cortana, infected with the logic plague during her time with the Gravemind.
Breaking Benjamin

Multiplayer

I want them to keep all the core mechanics but Spartan charge. Or, if they choose to keep it, make the knockback farther and shoot delay after charging longer, so it can be more situational, knocking people out of cover into your teams line of sight/charging people off ledges, rather than a good combat option in most situations.
All game modes, customs browser and forge at launch. This is super important. If Halo 5 had released with all modes at launch, I think it would have been a vastly more popular game.
Keep Warzone and Arena separate, with expanded Warzone modes from the start (firefight, assault) along with new ones, perhaps a deathmatch mode with no AI but bigger teams.
More map variety. Both in look and playstyle. In halo 5, some of the maps play incredibly well, but none have memorable aesthetics. They also all seem to be in the small-medium sized category. I want proper BTB maps, but also bigger maps for 4v4 objective modes.
Proper offline Firefight - this would be great as a REQ testing mode as well - if you don't want to use an ultra-rare REQ in game for the first time, you could come and test your REQs here.

Customization

I'm fine with body and helmet sets, but I would also like to see leg options, even if they are as minimal as combat diaper on or off.
A full colour wheel for armour and muted colour wheel for undersuits.
Make pieces purchasable with in game currency. For example, a gold pack could be 5k req points, with a guaranteed random rare, or you could spend 20k req points on the specific rare helmet you want, with ultra rare being 50k and Legendary being 100k. This would give a sense of accomplishment when you finally work up to the piece you want, but also allows, for those who want, to gamble for a chance to get it cheaper.
Customization tied to commendations. Personally I think these should be the character helmets. Things like assassinate 1000 enemies - Emile's helmet, complete the campaign on Legendary - John's Mark VI, get 5000 sniper headshots, Jun's helmet, etc.
Visor colour should be a slider, visor effects should be REQs - for example, skull visor, matte visor, polished visor, 2-tone visor, gold visor. These can also be armour effects like grunt birthday party or inclement weather.
Emblem customization - personally I would love for them to do a COD or Forza style system where you can make whatever you want with given parts. Microsoft allows it with Forza, so I don't see why Halo should be any different. (Also the option to have the emblem on armour).

Other

UI improvements - better menu system (there was nothing wrong with Halo Reach/3), smoother REQ opening and less buggy overall.
More announcers - these were an amazing addition. I want so many more - 343GS, Classic, John, Cortana, Johnson, Thel, Lasky, The Didact, Atriox, A Prophet - the possibilities are endless.
Fixed theatre mode. Make it like it used to be.
Split-screen. Use the dynamic scaling to scale back all the way to 720p if you must, at least the option is there if people want it.
Xbox Play Anywhere - with co-op campaign, firefight and an option for customs to be cross-platform.

Questions about a 2005 Samsung TXR3079WHX/XAA HD CRT

I have a 2005 Samsung TXR3079WHX/XAA- it's one of those thick and heavy mid-to-late 2000s "HD flatscreen CRTs". It looks like this (deeper than this picture shows, about 2 feet "deep") but in a bit better condition. I honestly don't know a lot about this thing, as I don't see a lot of discussion about these types of sets.

It has composite inputs, S-video inputs, Component inputs, and an HDMI input. I know that it supports 480p, 720p, and 1080i- but I am not sure if it supports 480i (I would guess that it does, due to the presence of composite inputs, but again, I'm not sure). It has adjustable aspect ratio.

Here are my questions:

(1) What is the native resolution of this set? I would guess that it is 720p, but I'm not sure.

(2) Will playing a system that uses a resolution different than the set's native resolution add input lag? I know this happens a lot with modern TVs because the image needs to be scaled, but does a CRT flatscreen have design differences that avoid this problem? For example, let's say the native resolution is 720p (but the set also supports 480p), and I use a Gamecube with component cables that I have put into 480p progressive scan mode. Will this add input lag?

(3) I have a "Fat" Xbox One AKA the 2013 Xbox One, and when I connect it to this set via the HDMI (and select 720p in the dashboard settings) the picture is slightly too large for the screen (for example, the bottom portion of the "ammo count" in the lower right corner of a first person shooter will be cut off). Why does this happen? I've tried all of the Xbox One dashboard settings and all of the settings on the set that I can adjust (I do not have the remote) and nothing seems to fix this.

(4) What consoles would this thing work best with, from what you can tell? Some of the 720p games on the Original Xbox, perhaps? PS3/XB360? Or do the other supported resolutions also run just as well as the native resolution, meaning this thing could run 480p Gamecube, PS2, and OG Xbox games with no added lag?

4K TV for Xbox One X.

Hey there I'm hoping someone can help me out in choosing a good 4k TV for the Xb1X, I'm also a bit limited on space, only 45" of width, height does not matter. The main games I play nowadays are fighting games and my old (upscaled) 720p 32" screen no longer cuts it.

The features I want are 4K, HDR, Low input lag and a high refresh rate.

So far after my research, the best size I can go for is 50" and also the price of it I only want to reach about £1,000 - £1,300 obviously the lower the better but thats the max I will go to.

DOOM is way better on Switch than I thought it would be!

I bought DOOM originally for Xbox One, and I loved every second of it. I had some major concerns with the Switch port. Primarily:

Dropping from 60FPS to 30FPS.

I am generally not a huge snob when it comes to framerates, but due to the extremely fast nature of DOOM, and the amount of enemies you have to deal with in mobs (especially gore nests), I had some concerns in terms of reaction time. What a lot of people don't seem to realize is that framerate doesn't just control how the game displays; it's also the rate at which the game runs calculations, including those from inputs. So in theory, it's detecting inputs at half the speed as the original version.

I can safely say, after playing it for the last few days, that it feels fine (after tweaking the control sensitivity a bit). There hasn't been a single moment where I feel like the game suffers from being 30FPS. Sure, 60FPS is better, but this still feels like DOOM.

No SnapMap editor

This is probably mostly just me, but I love level editors. I was hyped when they announced DOOM, and was fantasizing about the portable nature integrating with the SnapMap editor. I thought it would be awesome to make levels and share them with friends. Unfortunately, this one is still not there.

Resolution

I'm gonna be honest, I don't know what resolution it runs in when in handheld mode, but it's sub-720p, definitely. I'm guessing more like 540p. But it uses a lot of visual effects so that it doesn't look like complete garbage. You're not missing out on super important details, and things like details on monitors (like when characters are talking to you) it seems that the game prioritizes them, and they come in super crisp so you can see it.

That they would cut corners elsewhere

This is a AAA FPS game that was designed to be played on hardware distinctly more powerful than the Switch. I was super worried that they would have to make some major compromises to get this thing running on Switch, like maybe segmenting levels more, and adding more loading screens. Like, it's basically running on a beefy tablet now.

But no, the core experience feels intact. Everything I love about DOOM is there - the fast-paced action, the demons, the boss battles, the exploration, the huge guns, the double-jumping, the melee action. It's all there, and it all plays fantastically, and I have fucking DOOM running on a device that I can take with me. That is mindblowing to me. Everything I was worried about detracting from the experience does not do so in any significant manner.

And additionally - important detail - levels load way faster on Switch than Xbox. It's likely due to cartridge-based storage vs disc and install, combined with presumably much larger textures and stuff on Xbox. I didn't think it was super slow on Xbox, but it's definitely faster here on Switch.

Also if any Id/Panic Button/Bethesda employees are reading this, please add motion control aiming, because, like, everybody totally wants it.

To preface this, I built this system in SEP 2015 and at the time, I had 3x Asus 24" monitors (VS247H-P) hooked up via an Nvidia Surround configuration (5760x1080p resolution). This setup worked great and the GTX 750Ti handled it no problem. Most of the gaming I did was on my xbox 360 (COD series, Assassins Creed, Farcry, etc).

In MAR 2017, I purchased the Sony 55" 4k TV as a replacement to my monitors - I wanted to go with a 6 display setup, but was getting tired of the bezels and figured a large 4k display would work out better for productivity, and wouldn't require me to use a multi GPU setup.

I'm not a huge gamer like I used to be, but I've been slowly making the shift from console to pc gaming, but my GPU is definitely not up to the task. This past weekend, I got Assassin Creed Origin and both laughed and cried when I could only run it at 720p resolution, with everything set to low - and only after changing my desktop resolution to 1080p. I had a similar problem with Battlefield 1. I'm loving the game, just not the gaming experience.

Since I'm reluctant to invest more money in another console system, I figured I would update the GPU - I've been looking at the GTX 1080 as an upgrade, but I'm a bit confused as to what I can expect from it. From all the reviews I've read, it seems that the 1080 is perfect for 1440p resolution @ 60+ fps, whereas the 1080Ti is just breaking the 4k resolution @ ~60 fps mark of current titles. At $550 from Nvidia directly, this is the most expensive GPU I have every considered purchasing - ie: definitely not gonna buy the 1080Ti.

I guess my main question is - What kind of performance can I reasonably expect with a GTX 1080 with my current pc?

FIRST TIME POSTER: Center channel will not play DTS or other codecs?

Hey Guys, Long time lurker of r/hometheater but first time posting because I've ran out of tricks. I have a denon avr-s720(refurb'd) getting inputs from my xbox one, outputting to my projector. I have a FL, Center and FR andrew Jones Pioneer speakers with a bic f12 sub. The problem is when I try to use DTS:X or Dolby surround, my center channel speaker will not output, with the exception of a slight static if I place my ear next to it. It plays fine out of the FL and FR. The center will output when it's on multi-channel though, so I know it's hooked up correctly and the content is DTS, Dolby surround or other codecs. I've changed out my hdmi chords to ensure it's passing through and ran multiple audyssey calibrations. Anyone have any ideas? Possibly bc it's a refurb?

You can't really build a PC with equivalent specs. Both consoles use an old CPU architecture that's primarily designed for low power consumption rather than high performance. They use an 8 core model, but AMD never released a desktop version of this processor with 8 cores, so it's not really possible to do a straight comparison.

Destiny 2 is a lot more demanding on CPU than GPU. In certain areas, it can struggle to maintain a 60 fps lock. Places like the tower, the farm, the public events on Titan, the church in the EDZ. In these areas, I get the same frame rate in the 50s or 40s whether I'm at 720p or 4K, because my CPU isn't fast enough. People with the highest end CPUs are having the same issues. The game demands an extremely fast CPU in a few areas. If a PC player gets frame drops into the high 40s with high-end hardware, then that would explain why consoles aren't attempting 60 fps in this game. With their weak CPU architecture, the frame drops must veer into the 20s in CPU-demanding areas. If the game ran at 60 fps with drops into the 20s, it would be even more jarring than it already is.

chromecast issues...can it do 60fps?

Hi guys

I have an apple tv 3 that I occasionally have wifi issues with so I decided to replace it with the 2nd gen chromecast that was on sale this black friday. I had been using airplay on the Youtube TV iOS app and I was able to manually set quality to 720p60 on channels that supported it.

Hooked up the chromecast today, and now that option is no longer there. Even worse, when I hit stats, nothing appears. I was under the impression the chromecast could play Youtube TV content in 60fps, is that not the case? I'm starting to get a little fed up with YTTV, I love the price and the channels but they teased me with the xbox one app not being able to do 60fps and I can't not watch sports in 60fps now, after being given the option on my computer with it.

Playing Xbox on TV but streaming through PC.

Does me playing on 32inch LCD tv effect stream when streaming through elgato and PC. If I'm streaming at 720p does the TV have to be set to anything or does it not matter what I play on or what the resolution is on TV. Will it still stream out at 720p regardless.

I need a cheap PC for streaming Xbox games and need advice on 1 I have found

I found a x4 860k/8gb Ram/GTX 750 ti/windows 10 for £250. Will this handle streaming from Xbox one using elgato? No games will be played on PC just OBS and streaming will be done on this PC. I know there are better cpus for streaming but cant afford more.

Injustice: Gods among us on Xbox 1 X

It looks amazing. First time I’ve ever played it and the in game graphics are outstanding. It looks better than any 360 game I ever played and it’s probably 720p upscaled to 2160p. I assume it’s the forced anisotropic filtering making it look so good for its age. Truly outstanding. Loving this console so much. And the game only cost £8 in the Xbox Black Friday sale.

Suggest a TV for Xbox One S

Hi! I have a Toshiba 720p 32inch TV that I got for Christmas last year and I noticed the picture isn't the nicest looking with the Xbox One S (never noticed with my Nintendo Switch). It also lags a bit, and I'm not sure if this is my TV or my internet (it's pretty slow, less than 10 down and 1 up)? Would I see an improvement in picture quality with a 1080p TV? Sorry, I'm not the most tech savvy when it comes to TVs so any help is great. Also as a side question, I noticed my Xbox controller came with duracell batteries. are these the recommended batteries to be used in the controllers? I haven't gotten a play and charge kit yet however I do plan on doing so in the future. edit: should probably add that I just got my XB1 on wednesday which is why I'm asking.

I'm playing on what I thought was a 32" 1080p TV. But I just googled the specs and I'm reading its 720p.

Im interested in looking for a new TV with 4k. Does Siege support HDR or will I not notice a difference than if I was playing on my 720p TV? I'm playing it on Xbox One S.

My dilemma

I'm rocking an OG Xbox One. No matter what I have to upgrade my TV. It's a 32" 720p Vizio so it's time for a change there. I'm having trouble justifying the Xbox One X though. I could get an S and a new 1080p TV for the same price. But is upgrading to an S even worth it from an OG Xbox One?

Trying to play 4K Bluray .mkv files on XBOX One S using my NTFS external hard drive

So I have been always storing my 720p or 1080p .mkv files onto my NTFS external hard drive and plugging it into my Sony SMP-N200 Media Player which plays flawlessly to my TV. Recently I have downloaded TWO 4k .mkv files and put them on the hard drive to try it on my Sony media player (obviously it wont play the files because the player isn't 4k compatible), so then I thought HEY I HAVE an Xbox One S.

So I plugged the hard drive into the Xbox One S and opened the Media player app found on the Xbox (haven't yet tried that TV and Movie app though), and it will pick up some 720p 1080p .mkv files just fine and play great, some of those files wont even be able to play because of format? However, the TWO 4k .mkv files I just downloaded wont play at all because of the format not supported.

Whats next to try?

What's the resolution on games with widescreen support games with no hd support?

I was looking through a list of Original Xbox games with alternate display modes on Wikipedia:

I noticed a lot that say they support widescreen but not 720p. I looked around the web and couldn't come up with much info. I'm wondering if anyone knows how it accomplishes this and what the resolution is? Is it 480x640 or 480x720? Has anyone tried this and how do they look? Are they all stretched out? Is it better to just leave any game without 720p in 4:3?

Good 28"+ Monitor for (mostly) Work & Light PC/Xbox Gaming?

Currently running 17" 4K laptop screen + some old(ish) ultra-wide LG. The difference between those two is huge.

I'm getting a bit faster PC for work with GTX 1080 (the laptop has 980M) and need a good monitor. The bigger the better I guess...

My work is about 30% Photoshop/Illustrator/3D modeling, 50% Unity 3D + Visual Studio coding and I'd like to be able to connect my Xbox 1s as well (don't really care that much about gaming actually - just want to get rid of my 720p TV).

It does not need to be 4K as long as everything's smooth/sharp and pretty. :)

Any ideas?

App interface jacked up (scaling problem) on Xbox One?

Anyone else seeing the Sling TV user interface scaled as shown below on Xbox One?

A picture's worth a TLDR

If you are, did you find a workaround or cause? I chatted w/ Sling support but they had nothing to offer.

The "MY TV" and "ON NOW" tabs wrap onto the rest of the interface, and (not shown) the selection rectangle often moves partially off screen as you navigate up or down, making it difficult to select things. This occurs whether Xbox One & TV are at 1080p or 720p. I'm not having similar issues with other apps (e.g. Netflix or Movies & TV), or with Sling on a Roku on the same setup.

It's obvious that the console community has been unhappy with the game's performance since launch. You have said before that the game is beautiful on console, but you know what? I don't give a shit. None of us give a shit how the game looks if you've sacrificed it's performance. When you ported this game to the consoles, the first thing you did was make it look as good as it could, then you made it run as well as it could at that spec. What you should have done, is optimised the performance of the game as much as possible to make it run at 60fps, THEN made it look as good as it could UNDER THOSE RESTRICTIONS.

But you did what you did, and you can only move forwards. Failing to do anything is going to kill this game on console. I absolutely ADORE this game, but I hate playing it now. You are now left with two very simple options:

Ballance the two platforms separately (This would lead to consoles having slower attacks ad wider parry windows on some attacks)

Reduce the graphical fidelity of the game on PS4/Xbox until the game runs at 60fps. A lot of people throw "720p" around, but really do whatever you need to do to improve the framerate.

Remember, this is a niche game. It's demanding, difficult, competitive and stressful. VERRY few console players would complain if the game didn't look as good, but ran at 60fps. If you really want to, you could even have a "Cinematic" setting with high fidelity graphics at the cost of framerate, and a "Performance" mode, with a high framerate at the cost of graphical fidelity. Don't tell me it isn't possible, of course it is. This is an 8 player fighting game, not a 64 player first person shooter. The consoles may not be as strong as a PC can be, but they're by no means weak.

If you REALLY don't want to rework the game like that, and your graphics are just too important (seriously it's a fucking fighting game. Certain genres demand performance over looks, the main ones being driving games and fighting games) then you always have the option of balancing the games separately. If you refuse to do either, then quite honestly, F you.

PS4 Pro Has One Unexpected Advantage Over Xbox One X | A dead peripheral that streams in 720p

As far as sheer horsepower is concerned, there's really no contest in 2017: The PS4 Pro makes its software look admittedly great, but when it comes to true 4K gaming, it simply can't hold a candle to the processing behemoth that is the Xbox One X. But even though Microsoft's console will remain my system of choice for third party titles moving forward, Sony's mid-cycle refresh manages to come out on top in one rather unexpected category.

To be fair, the Xbox One X-as well as the Xbox One S and the bulky launch original-does feature game streaming capabilities.

The streaming is set up through the Xbox App, and from what I've seen, it works decently enough, especially since you can use an Xbox wireless controller to play.

Now consider the PS4 Pro, which can stream games remotely over the internet, so even if your console is in Hawaii and you're staying in a seedy motel with free wi-fi and complimentary bed bugs in Florida, you can still kick back and get your Last Guardian on.

It's a shame Sony all but abandoned the PS TV. I think that's what the Xbox One X is missing for me, either some kind of portable Xbox or stripped down version of the hardware that could be used almost exclusively for streaming.

How to setup 480p geometry on BVM/PVM?

I noticed my size/centering was off on my original Xbox for 480p sources - it's currently perfect for 240p as set with the 240p test suite on my SNES. Since I don't own a Wii, Dreamcast, or GameCube for the 480p test suite modes, I'm trying to figure out how to best go about doing this.

Can anyone tell me how to set the Horizontal/Vertical Size/Centering on a Sony BVM-D20F1U and PVM-20L5? I've messed with it a bit and I think that when the monitors detect a 480p source that I can adjust that H/V Size/Centering and it doesn't change my 240p/480i settings...? Can anybody confirm this?

I might be messing with 720p (maybe even 1080i) at some point a well so I'm interested in how to change those too...but those are ALWAYS widescreen, right? (like there's no such thing as 720p which isn't in 16:9 ratio?). I bought Enter the Matrix for Xbox which I believe does 720p and 1080i resolutions but it hasn't arrived yet so I haven't experimented with those resolutions on my CRT's yet (and don't have Component cables for my PS3/4 or Xbox 360/One to hook those up...which I probably won't anyway since those look just beautiful on my 60" flatscreen ;)

60fps Destiny2 over steamlink

I don't want to start a PC master race/mouse keyboard/controller dialog... But I just recently had my first kid, and playing downstairs on the TV is WAY more desirable.

Heres what I did to get it working perfectly... (using nvidia 970 with i5, and an xbox one controller, with the xbox one usb wireless adapter)

After normal install/setup of the steam link... Goto settings->in home streaming, and set client options to Beautiful settings->in home streaming

Setting	Value

settings->in home streaming->advanced->limit resolution	720
settings->in home streaming->advanced->display performance information	enabled (preference)
settings->advanced host options->dynamically adjust capture resolution	enabled

settings->advanced host options->enable hardware encoding	enabled
settings->advanced host options->enable hardware encoding on nvidia gpu	enabled

I limit to 720 as with the size of my tv, and distance, I can barely tell the difference, and I prefer frames to pixels

The next 2 things I used Process Explorer from sysinternals to set priorities https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

Set the Steam client priority to "above normal" To get the xbox controller working remotely, I used virtualhere http://store.steampowered.com/app/440520/VirtualHere_For_Steam_Link/

To ensure input never lagged, or disconnected, I set the virtual here program's priority to "high"

Using the controller directly through the steamlink, emulates a generic controller (couldn't get it to pass through correctly using direct usb, or bluetooth with the newer xbox one controllers)

The biggest setting I found that helped me was the nvfbc (this offloads the encoding of the video to the gpu, it seemed my system was more cpu starved than gpu, so this gave me a huge improvement)

Hopefully this can be helpful to someone else, and please if any of this doesn't make sense let me know :)

I remember a section in Super Metroid where you need to use a super missile on a wall to get to Kraid, and the way you know you need to do that is because it's shown as a section on the in game map that you haven't explored yet. I've just started Metroid and I had to use a walkthrough when I got stuck, and the solution was the same, a completely obscured hidden passage, but this time there was no in game map to give me a hint. There doesn't seem to be any clue based off the level, like hidden halls in Doom with mis-aligned texture. The only reason I can think this wouldn't be bullshit is if the game came with a map. If not, should I just play Zero Mission instead?

That's not true. It sold well and was liked enough to stay in the charts for a while. Super Metroid was considered a let down when it came out, since it was far easier than the previous two. Zelda 1 at least had some semblance of a map in the top left and encouraged players to draw their own map as they went along, plus there was only one bombable wall/burnable bush per screen so once you found where it was you wouldn't need to keep trying

I hope there's more monstergirls and beast races if they make IV. I've been playing through II, and I am really enjoying the variety of races in the game. I haven't played any of the Tony games, but any images I've seen of them look pretty generic and boring compared to the Camelot games.

I'm trying to put together a list, with specific examples (particularly if the same game is on both platforms) that outline the experience gap (or lack thereof) between the platforms. For the most part I'm assuming PC users are looking at a mouse and keyboard setup vs the controller of a console player (yes, I know XBOX 360 controllers etc can be used on PC and there are various peripherals for consoles).

For example, FPS games, particularly twitch shooters, are far, far more suited to the PC due to the requirement for accuracy. The ability for a mouse and keyboard set up to transfer the players skill into onscreen actions is vastly superior to a controller due to the way one interacts with thumbsticks. The best Dreamcast quake 3 arena player in the world would have a very hard time winning against even a modestly competent PC user.

RTS games have a similarly wide gulf due to the time-sensitive nature of the game and ability to input multiple commands at various points on the screen quickly and accurately. With a mouse this is somewhat trivial vs a controller. Note that two players could be equally competent and knowledgeable about the game, but using a controller provides an additional, insurmountable challenge vs the UI. Even with a modified UI to handle controllers easier, Starcraft 64 players weren't going to be successful vs the likes of Boxer in a billion years (if such a match was hypothetically possible).

Some games sit in the middle. Turn based strategy games, where time penalties do not exist, do not seem to overtly favour one platform or another.

On the other hand, racing games, fighting games and platformers seem much more suited to consoles. Why is this?

One thing about controllers being better for this is that some games require combo inputs that require sliding the thumb along a d-pad or rotating a thumbstick in a certain way. It would be basically impossible to do the same sort of thing with a keyboard.

This is the only thing I can think of where it really matters to have a console controller, though.

I started a fresh run today and honestly the gameplay feels much smoother now than before. I kinda wish they would work on a story dlc though the next time. What do you guys think? There was a Newgrounds game that was suuuuuuper short, and had a neat art style to it. MC looked like a cross between Viewtiful Joe and a ninja, and his eyes were obscured by some kinda hat. He always wore a shit-eating grin in his portrait. Anyway, game played pretty much like 2D Zelda or Legend of Mana, and you were tasked on collecting pieces for a sword to kill something evil. I think it was pretty weeb at the time, too.

That's what I do, except I have to kite the other 6-7 enemies for about a minute until I get the opening to do so. Just died on the last wave, again. About 8-10 floating heads, a revenant, an onmyodo and a fucking wheel monk, right after 2 tengus. These arena missions are just not fun solo.

You don't get it, do you? When you have 5+ enemies all attacking during each other's attack cooldowns, the only thing you can do is run like a pussy bitch and pelt them 1 kunai every 5-10 seconds. I'd tank them with LW, except even the toughest LW is drained with like 3-4 hits from the elites or the big yokai. Anyway, it's not undoable, but I do not enjoy doing it.

Or use the mines, makibishis, spells, ranged weapons or just abuse the pathfinding.
