Wishlist for Halo 6 - Ways to improve on a solid base. [Long Post]

As it stands - Halo 5 is probably the biggest mixed bag of a game I have ever played. Parts of it were by far my favourite they have been, but there is still a lot to improve on. Here is a wishlist for Halo 6.

Story

  • Explanation for Cortana's actions - for me this would be through clear reference to the logic plague and a bit of history on how it has existed before and corrupted AI in the past.

  • More Chief and Blue Team but also still members of Osiris - I liked the contrasting characters but wished they interacted more and were more fleshed out. I wouldn't mind a few from either team dying early on, setting up high stakes, while also giving a reason for both teams to come together.

  • Longer story with slightly more exposition. My biggest issue with Halo 4 and 5 is that things happen with virtually no set-up in game. I love Halo 4s story, but I'm also a big fan of the EU, so I know the significance of the Didact and the Forerunners. To a new player, it would be very confusing. Same goes for Blue Team in Halo 5, as well as the Guardians (and the logic plague, if it does end up being used). We are often just shown things that we have no idea existed, even though the characters in game seem to.

  • The Didact. Such a great villain introduced at the start of the trilogy - in my opinion he should come back and eventually be redeemed. He should acknowledge that the Forerunners failed to uphold the mantle, and that humanity must pass the final test left by the Precursors - Cortana, infected with the logic plague during her time with the Gravemind.

  • Breaking Benjamin

Multiplayer

  • I want them to keep all the core mechanics but Spartan charge. Or, if they choose to keep it, make the knockback farther and shoot delay after charging longer, so it can be more situational, knocking people out of cover into your teams line of sight/charging people off ledges, rather than a good combat option in most situations.

  • All game modes, customs browser and forge at launch. This is super important. If Halo 5 had released with all modes at launch, I think it would have been a vastly more popular game.

  • Keep Warzone and Arena separate, with expanded Warzone modes from the start (firefight, assault) along with new ones, perhaps a deathmatch mode with no AI but bigger teams.

  • More map variety. Both in look and playstyle. In halo 5, some of the maps play incredibly well, but none have memorable aesthetics. They also all seem to be in the small-medium sized category. I want proper BTB maps, but also bigger maps for 4v4 objective modes.

  • Proper offline Firefight - this would be great as a REQ testing mode as well - if you don't want to use an ultra-rare REQ in game for the first time, you could come and test your REQs here.

Customization

  • I'm fine with body and helmet sets, but I would also like to see leg options, even if they are as minimal as combat diaper on or off.

  • A full colour wheel for armour and muted colour wheel for undersuits.

  • Make pieces purchasable with in game currency. For example, a gold pack could be 5k req points, with a guaranteed random rare, or you could spend 20k req points on the specific rare helmet you want, with ultra rare being 50k and Legendary being 100k. This would give a sense of accomplishment when you finally work up to the piece you want, but also allows, for those who want, to gamble for a chance to get it cheaper.

  • Customization tied to commendations. Personally I think these should be the character helmets. Things like assassinate 1000 enemies - Emile's helmet, complete the campaign on Legendary - John's Mark VI, get 5000 sniper headshots, Jun's helmet, etc.

  • Visor colour should be a slider, visor effects should be REQs - for example, skull visor, matte visor, polished visor, 2-tone visor, gold visor. These can also be armour effects like grunt birthday party or inclement weather.

  • Emblem customization - personally I would love for them to do a COD or Forza style system where you can make whatever you want with given parts. Microsoft allows it with Forza, so I don't see why Halo should be any different. (Also the option to have the emblem on armour).

Other

  • UI improvements - better menu system (there was nothing wrong with Halo Reach/3), smoother REQ opening and less buggy overall.

  • More announcers - these were an amazing addition. I want so many more - 343GS, Classic, John, Cortana, Johnson, Thel, Lasky, The Didact, Atriox, A Prophet - the possibilities are endless.

  • Fixed theatre mode. Make it like it used to be.

  • Split-screen. Use the dynamic scaling to scale back all the way to 720p if you must, at least the option is there if people want it.

  • Xbox Play Anywhere - with co-op campaign, firefight and an option for customs to be cross-platform.
