Why is my HDMI splitter setup not working?

Here is the situation:

We are now running an Xbox One into our relatively old box TV (SAMSUNG HLN567W) through an HDMI to DVI adapter since the TV had its component board die on us (analog board?). That is okay since we have an HDMI to DVI adapter, but since no audio comes out of that port now I needed to add an external speaker system. In order to do that I bought an HDMI splitter that has an HDMI input, HDMI output and separate audio output (AVENK 2 Port 1x2 HDMI Splitter with Audio Extractor). I have attached a visual of my set up.

My issue is when I run the setup I have attached with the DVI adapter, I get no signal on the TV; however, when I run the splitter into an actual HDMI output on a different TV, it works fine. Additionally, as I mentioned above running the game console into the TV directly through the DVI adapter works fine, just no audio. Why is the HDMI splitter not working on my setup? Is the signal being converted to one that's incompatible? Any help would be appreciated!

Note: My console display is set to 720p so it can be viewed on the TV
