Need help with projector and TV setup

Hi all, so my girlfriend and I are stumped on this one:

We have a sony str dh550 receiver connected to our Xbox one, cable box and Blu-ray player and our TV and projector (epson ex3220) are the outputs. We bought a HDMI splitter since the receiver only has one output and split the TV and projector on that. I understand our projector is only really 720p compatible but when we configure the Xbox to 720p output it still doesn't show on the projector.

Does anyone know anything about this? Is it just the projector that's bad? Thanks
