Is Dell PowerEdge R710 good way to go for a first VM Server.

  • It's a 720 not 710.

I have a small home lab in my Garage office in a Half Rack with :
Raspberry Pi running PI Hole,
Swann home security - Coaxial video
An old Gaming PC - only 8 G ram so not doing much
xbox - one
Tp-link 16-Port Gigabit Switch
Cisco 881
NetVanta 838 - Last two came with the Rack.

I want to build a VM server to host a NAS, Blue iris CCTV, Plex for photos, and run VMs for Cyber security like splunk, CTFs and Kali just to start.

I found this in my budget: Dell PowerEdge R720 Dual E5-2630L 2.4GHz CPU's 128GB 16 x 900 HDD SAS | B-Grade - And what to know if it is sufficient and a little future proof.

I was also looking at getting Protectli Vault 4 Port, Firewall Micro Appliance/Mini PC - Intel Quad Core, AES-NI, 8GB RAM, 120GB mSATA SSD - to run pfsence ,

A Powershield Defender Rack UPS, 800VA

And an Ultra wide Monitor. The reason for the Ultra wide is 1. I have them in the office and love them and two, My wife and I both have work laptops and personal laptops and I am going between to home office and the garage and all laptops have different cable configurations. Even with two hubs and kwm switches and HDMI switches I am always swapping cables around.

I would love any advice and any items I should get next or should swap.
