Hey guys and girls,
I am just about convinced that I should build a pc. Havent ever bought my own computer, as my college laptop worked through college and I've had work laptops since. Been a console gamer for forever, and I'm not sure I'll completely give that up - BUT, I do feel like getting a PC is overdue.
Currently, I play a lot of rocket league on xbox, and have a ps4 pro and switch as well. My primary motivation to finally biting the bullet and getting a pc is that intensive web browsing has gotten annoying to do on my phone, and I also have an itch for an mmorpg and LoL. Havent played either in years.
I had almost decided a laptop such as the yoga 720 would meet my needs, but as I dont really have much of a mobility requirement, I'm starting to lean towards building a desktop and then buying a tablet or something like that to browse on the couch. Honestly I'm not planning on playing games that require max specs, but if I can get a desktop that CAN play just about any game, plus a tablet for couch browsing, for a similar price, I might as well. Plus I like the idea of learning the process, as I do work in tech and it is kind of embarrassing to not know about all of this.
At this point, I need some advice that will help me get started. I've been reading up on all of the different parts, and at this point I understand that these are the things I'll need to buy:
CPU
GPU
Motherboard (mobo, already learning the lingo)
RAM
Power supply
Case
Monitor
Questions
Are there any other necessary parts that I havent listed?
Is there a specific order to which parts I pick? I understand that the motherboard must be compatible with the CPU, which is one of the first dependencies I'd need to tackle.
Is 1080p @ 60hz enough, or should I just go ahead and go with 2k/4k + 144hz/240hz? I haven't been able to really determine what I need, and am not sure how. Obviously higher frame rate and resolution is better, so maybe I just need to look at the price and visual differences.
I'm really hoping to at least narrow down a few of the parts, and I feel that that would help me pick the others.
Thanks a ton for reading and any advice at all!
