Build a new PC? Or get external GPU.

Hey all,

I have a Lenovo Yoga 720 w 1050, i7-7700, 16 DDR4 2133, and a 4K screen. (I Keep it at 1980). Apparently due to thermal paste it tends to overheat and stutter in some games. It underclocks the processor so it doesn’t get hot or some bullshit. I’m really unhappy with it. It can barely handle wow and still get random spurts if lag.

Anyway, my old computer is a POS I built years ago. 660 card. 4670k processor. 8 gigs ddr3 ram. Can salvage the SSD and HDD though.

I was thinking external GPU maybe for my laptop to utilize the money sinks but also may just build a desktop and cut my losses.

Any enterprise w external GPU?

Also any good budget builds that i could later upgrade easily? (I may shell out for 1060 or 1070). But my Xbox has FreeSync I believe and wouldn’t mind using that when I get new monitor.

So any advice? Start with fresh Mobo, ram, processor, GPU and case? Or could I get a new Mobo and hold off on processor for a bit? (Or would 4670k make a 1070 useless?).
