Looking for college laptop 13-15inch US 1000-1500

  • Total budget and country of purchase: ~1500 USD fairly flexible

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Ideally I would like to have the 2 in 1 design, I've used the yoga 2 pro for years and loved it.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? weight is only moderately important.

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-15 inches, ideally on the smallerish side, but not too picky.

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Okay, so I do want to use this machine for pretty moderate to intense CAD, as well as coding, and some 3D modeling in Blender.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I mostly would only use this to game in terms of e-sports games like League of Legends, and maybe a few PC/XBOX exclusives since I use my PS4 for most of my gaming. I don't need the absolute peak of performance, just good enough for 1080p at decent settings.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? touch screen, and if it is a 2 in 1 a pen would be ideal.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. so I've used a Yoga 2 pro throughout all of my high school, and I really like it, but it's starting to chug a bit, and I'm looking for a laptop to take to college and hopefully be able to use all four years. I'd use it for notes, homework along with CAD and a design stuff. I was looking at the Yoga 720, the xps 15 2 in 1, but I wasn't sure if there were better things specifically for CAD and modeling in those form factors. Another thought I had was to go for something a little less powerful and a bit more affordable as a daily laptop, and then put together a desktop for more intensive things, but with the current price of Graphics cards I'm not sure how cost effective that is. Sorry for the long list of stuff, looking forward to see what you guys suggest!
