Following the recommendations of a few, I went the "UnleashX as main, XBMC as an app" route.
I honestly never really liked it. Tried about 250-ish skins and can't say I even found one that looked good... but at 4:3 with 480 composites, it was acceptable.
Saw an official component adapter at my local Slackers and didn't really pay it much mind because I didn't think I'd like going that route. I'd planned on saving myself a few bucks by just buying one of them component cables off Amazon and saving myself the trouble of having to use an adapter then find myself some cable... that is, until reading reviews on them and finding that not one of those sets of no-name $7 xbox component cables had even decent performance... and then finding that the official component cables, the good third-party monster xbox component cables and the adapter I passed on were all insanely high in value, starting at about $65 and going up to $170. Thankfully Slackers had no clue what this was worth so I got it for $8.
Now that I'm outputting at a better res, my dislike of UnleashX's looks has exploded tenfold... XBMC on the other hand is absolutely beautiful. The three included skins on my XBMC build were more satisfying than the lot of 250 I sifted through on UnleashX.
Searching for a way to simply swap dashboards gave me a lot of results, but I figure the peoples of this subreddit may know better, newer and more efficient ways to do this in 2018 than the 2010-2015 videos I've seen.
