Hey guys, hoping to get a little help here.
After seeing Spider-Man Homecoming I got a little nostalgic and decided to install my old copy of Ultimate. after setting up my old 360 controller (this game has shitty mouselook and poorly optimized keyboard controls, it was built for consoles in mind and while I DO also own it on the Original Xbox, i'd rather play it in HD)
Things were going great and I was webslinging all around town, taking down baddies, saving people, the usual Spidey stuff.
After about an hour of playing, I started to notice SEVERE slowdowns. I'm talking sustained drops to ZERO fps for far longer than should be happening with a mid 2000's game on a modern PC.
Before I even ran the game, I had already set compatibility mode to Windows XP SP3 and tested it and things were working perfectly, but these sustained freezes are killing my enjoyment. The strange thing is, the game isn't freezing, sound and everything still works, and I can hear Spidey running around and whatnot while this is all going down.
if anyone has any idea what could be happening here, or if anyone has a simple fix, i'd appreciate the help. Also, if anyone knows how to force AA, FOV, set proper pixel scaling (it stretches the picture, not native render) and all the other bells and whistles this game is missing, i'd really appreciate it. I would absolutely love to go all in on an old favorite.
Here's the basics of my PC pulled from DxDiag:
System Information
Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 15063) (15063.rs2_release.170317-1834) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: LENOVO System Model: 10181 BIOS: I1KT37AUS Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz Memory: 8192MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 12
Display Devices
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce GT 720 DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Type: Full Device Display Memory: 6080 MB Dedicated Memory: 2018 MB Shared Memory: 4062 MB Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz) Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor Monitor Model: 42LV4400 Monitor Id: GSM0001 Native Mode: 1920 x 1080(p) (60.000Hz) Output Type: HD15
(I know, not top of the line, but it gets the job done. I don't play the newest shit, mostly Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, New Vegas, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, Unreal Tournament, etc. All of em run Max settings at 1920x1080 & 60+fps, minus Skyrim which I have to run scaled 1280x720 through GeDoSaTo to get ~45-55fps on average with most things set to medium/high. I'm not living the proper PC Master Race life, but that's what you get when you're out of work for 2 years with horrible undiagnosed shoulder & arm pain.)
