Trying to build a PC that can rival the Xbox One X for the same price or lower.

Article

Essentially, the article shows that a PC matching the prowess of the Xbox One X for the same price "cannot" be done. Showing that the lowest price attainable, respectively, is US$652 - with some assumptions made.

I thought the article was interesting, and as it turns out, the final notes explain that you can get very close since a PC does not need an optical drive, and prices will fluctuate by the time the console comes out. This may lead to a much greater chance of being able to DIY a computer at or under the price of the new Xbox.

What I find interesting, and why I wanted to make this post, is that this is only assuming you want to match the capability of the new console. But you could've (and I want your glorious commentary on this) built a comparable (720p, 30fps, etc.) PC three years ago for around $1,000. Three years ago was the release of the Xbox One for US$499, and they are releasing a new console for that same price - hence the $1,000 budget.

So, my argument is that you would still have your $1,000 PC from when the XbOne came out, and wouldn't need to do anything more when the new console comes out.
