Original Xbox not recognizing component cables

Hey /r/assemblergames,

So, I managed to pick up a green Original Xbox off eBay for a bargain price. Sadly, it's not the case with the Halo logo on the front, it's just plain green.

Anyway, as soon as I got it out of the box, I removed the clock capacitor, cleaned up all the gunk it left behind, reassembled it, plugged it in with some component cables and fired it up. Everything was fine, but I wasn't getting the HD options in the video settings of the MS Dashboard. Oh well, I thought. I'll just softmod it and see if I can force the option to turn it on via the UnleashX settings.

So I go onto xbins, grab a softmod installer, create a custom USB stick memory card out of an old controller that no longer worked, a USB extension cable and a generic 64MB USB stick, put it all together, format the stick in the Xbox, fire up my Windows VM (I'm a Linux guy! :D) and copy across the exploited save using Xplorer360. Booted up Splinter Cell, ran the exploit, backed up the eeprom onto my NAS, and then went through the installation process. BAM, I'm now softmodded.

I went into the video settings and forced the 480p, 720p and 1080i settings to on, saved my changes, then rebooted. Still no HD output!

I suspect that the problem lies with the cable I'm using. It's a cheap generic one I got off of eBay. I would have bought an official MS one, but no-one sells those, so I'm stuck with this crap one, or I can try buying another crap component cable.

Any ideas on what I can try next? - It's a v1.1 board, and I'm in the UK, so it's the PAL region.

Thanks
