Dual-booting PC for Programming and Overwatch ($1,200 - $1,500 USD)

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

  • Internet browsing / Netflix (The usual)

  • Coding. I develop software for a living, and it'd be nice to have a machine for my pet projects as they come up. Most of the time I'm programming in Java. I'd like to have enough RAM to watch streamed content, compile and run code, and have browser tabs open at the same time.

  • Overwatch. I've been playing on Xbox, and would like to start playing on PC. There's a chance this build might be a gateway into more PC gaming.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

  • $1,200 - $1,500 USD. If there's a good reason to exceed this budget, I could be swayed.

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

  • I'm ready to buy & build immediately, but I'll wait if there's a deal worth delaying for.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

  • Need: Tower, Windows 10, Keyboard, Wireless card (My router is in a different room)
  • Don't Need: Monitor, Speakers/headset, Mouse (see below)

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

  • Texas. I have a Microcenter within driving distance.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

  • Monitor: Dell 2716DGR
  • Monitor: Westinghouse 27" 720 HDTV, about 7 years old. I'll replace it if need be. The TV has HDMI, but I've got an HDMI to DisplayPort adapter. So if the video card doesn't have HDMI, I could use the adapter for now.
  • Audio: Logitech X-140 speakers, Turtle Beach - Ear Force XO One headset
  • Mouse: Bland GE wireless mouse. I'll upgrade in the future.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

  • No.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

  • Dual boot Windows & Linux (Ubuntu, most likely). My expectation is that I can access my stored documents just as easily from either OS. Would I be able to boot both OS's from a single SSD, or would it be better to get two SSD's? I yield to the community's expertise.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

  • No unnecessary lights. Other than that, I'm indifferent.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

  • Yes, Windows 10.

Extra info or particulars:

  • Right now, I can do without a DVD/Blu-Ray drive. I'll likely add one later.
