So I put together a DIY HT in my 12x25 basement a few years back. This is not my forever home so I just wanted something decent to hold me over to my new place in 2 years. In the new home I will be properly wiring to put in a projector and make sure the wiring is a little cleaner. I would then move this new TV to the family room.
With that said, my back TV wall is paint black as is the ceiling. At night I can make it pitch black in there considering I have blackout shades and curtains. I am looking to move my 65" DLP and put a 4K TV on the wall. Under it I will put a nice piece of furniture for my AV Equipment.
I have not measured but I think the viewing distance is about 9-10' from the couch. I think I would still see the benefit of 4k at that distance. I have even contemplated finding an 80" 1080p Set for a fraction of the cost.
Of the TV Choices, I have been contemplating a few options.
My inputs - As you can see, not any 4k sources unless PS4 can stream 4k from Vudu or Netflix - PS4 - Use for Games (mostly) / Bluray / Netflix / Plex - Cable - Playstation Vue - Used through Ps4 - 720P - WDTV - Xbox One (might upgrade to PS Scorpio or Xbox One S)
