Can we talk about the biggest thing nobody has addressed about the switch?

Modularity.

This is a monumental step for Nintendo with the switch. They can establish the switch with upgrades to the main tablet every couple years for newer better chips, while making use of the same system software. Xbox and PlayStation have been upgrading by buying brand new consoles. Nintendo can aim for a pc like approach with this. Want a killer machine for dedicated home play? Upgrade to the maximum settings system. Want a larger screen? You can get that model. Portability? Smaller screen no problem. Joycons with gyro? No problem. Arcade stick and buttons? Ez. This approach can help them hit various classes of consumers and dominate all age markets. A lower resolution, smaller, cheaper switch screen could be a hit with parents. Also the idea of a yearly launch cycle (don't kill me for this) ala apple could be possible and obliterate the competition.

This is going to be the thing about the switch that truly is going to be the most innovative thing in console and Nintendo has the power to flip the tables on the gaming landscape, it's just a matter of if they will take the leap.

FAQ's:

BUT WHY NOT PC THEN?

Remember Skylanders? It was basically physical DLC. Compared to online dlc, a physical product is far easier to understand for parents and kids. No credit card fuss, no confusing online menus, just a physical product that can be bought from any toy store or electronics place.

Bringing this to the pc argument, building a pc is like online dlc. Just the aspect of building one physically is a hell for young parents and kids. Now you also need to take into account the various aspects such as GPU, RAM, GFLOPS, etc. That is not common place language and especially not for parents and kids.

A simple upgrade system by buying separate versions of the central screen piece is fair easier to understand. Make each with easy to understand things such as graphical quality (720-1080p), and Portability (screensize). Notice with Apple products the simplicity of their details vs Android models. Apple uses things like a8 core, faster than ever, etc. Android is like snapdragon processor, TN display, OLED, etc. Nintendo needs a apple approach to make it accessible for parents, while the hardcore base like us will do the research online lol.
