Right now I'm needing to buy a dual monitor setup mainly for work related reasons. However, I want to buy a Xbox One or PS4 to hook up to one of them to play during my downtime. I'm only considering 1440p or 4k monitors for my setup; I know these consoles don't support anything higher than 1080p gaming, but I'm wondering which resolution (1440p or 4k) can scale better to these consoles' native resolutions?
A big reason I'm finding this hard to wrap my head around is that I know that the Xbox/PS4 themselves sometimes (but not all the time) upscale content/games to 1080 from 720 or other resolutions. Does that play as a factor when the monitor downscales to 1080 for the consoles? Would a 1440p or 4k monitor overall be a better gaming monitor for an X1 or PS4?
