After an unexpected media leak last week, Sony confirmed it is indeed bringing it's Playstation Now service to PC. Playstation Now is Sony's monthly subscription service offered to it's gamers instead of backwards compatibility. For a monthly fee, PS4 gamers can access a cloud and stream PS3 titles through an emulator.
Since the games aren't allowed to actually be downloaded and run locally on the console, graphics and sound quality are capped below the PS3 benchmark. So in the end gamers are treated to a slightly degraded experience of their old games, delivered by a more powerful machine, for $20/month. "Why do we do this to our gamers? Because fuck them, that's why" cackled one Sony exec. "I still can't believe they pay us for this. I honestly can't stop laughing" he added.
And now with Playstation Now coming to PC, the contrast between your machine's capability and the quality of gameplay has never been greater. "We really wanted to push the envelope here" another Sony exec said. "If we can successfully charge our gamers $20 monthly to run previously purchased games at a 720p cap on PCs capable of 4K, well, let's just say we would be very proud of that accomplishment."
Sony also confirmed that using Playstation Now on PC will only work with a dualshock 4 controller, and also must be used with a wireless thumbstick which will cost an additional $25. When asked why other gamepads won't be compatible, and why the wireless thumbstick is required, Sony said "We are very committed to making money".
The latest announcements also revealed a price increase for Playstation Plus to 59.99/yr. While Xbox Gold costs the same, no other charges are required by Microsoft to play old titles on Xbox One. This includes streaming to PC, and all other Windows 10 devices. "Yeah, Microsoft is really fucking up if you ask me" one Sony exec remarked. "They should be charging for that shit. With our Playstation Plus price increase combined with the cost of Playstation Now, we are gouging our gamers' pockets deeper than ever. At $300/yr, it has never been more expensive to have full access to our network. It's a very exciting time."
