Question about editing 720p xbox dvr footage, rendering and uploading to youtube.

So I'm planning on making a montage of some clips that I save with Xbox dvr.

It records at 720p/30fps/~5000kbps bitrate. So it's pretty low quality to begin with.

Plan is to edit them and upload to youtube.

So here are my specific questions:

  1. Should I render at 720p or 1080p? Would rendering at 1080p be pointless or introduce artifacts? Does it "see" that it's already compressed and factor that in when it's rendered/encoded again? I'm guessing I should just choose the "Internet HD 720p" render setting in Vegas (30 fps, 720p, 8 Mbps)

  2. Would adding effects (motion blur, color correction, overlaying parts of a clip etc.) create problems/artifacts?

  3. Does youtube take it into account and lay off more compression?

I'm worried that my footage will basically be encoded 3 times (original, vegas render, youtube compression) and it'll look super potato. I've never worked with such low quality source material so I'm worried I'll make a fundamental mistake.

Thanks in advance for any help!
