My 2006 Sony Bravia crapped out....guess I'm a little behind the times. Need new TV, advice needed.

Hey guys,

To my dismay, my 720p Sony Bravia I first got with the launch of the Xbox 360 kicked the bucket. After 5-10 seconds of turning on, the screen makes distorted images and lets out a loud static/shrieking sound that cannot be muted. Anyone have any advice regarding repairing TVs? To be honest, I'd rather pay the $100 to fix this TV than shell out for a new TV.

....But if I need a new TV, I want to be relevant and the TV to be with the times for the next several years.

Budget: $500-1000 (absolute max)

Resolution: Aiming for 1080p ideally, 4k if I can afford it

Size: 40 inch

Smart capability: Yes, would like to have Netflix/Amazon Prime ready to access with a button on my remote versus hooking up an HMDI to my laptop and connecting the TV

Misc.: Must have VGA port, 2+ HDMI ports, and component ports (Dreamcast uses VGA, PS2 uses component)

As you can see, I'm not a big gamer, but I'd like to have a TV that has those options available versus finding another TV for the sole purpose of gaming on older systems.

LED, OLED, Plasma, refresh rate, not sure about my preferences but I'd like to get the best bang for my buck: bottom line.

I'm not too familiar with brands, but I hear amazing things about recent discontinued plasma Samsungs.

Any opinion on used TVs?

Looking forward to hear all your responses.

Thank you very much
