Tritton 720+

I have been scouring the net trying to find an answer to this question. I have a pair of the mentioned headset Tritton 720+. I have the newer Xbox One controller with the 3.5mm jack. I cannot seem to figure what I am doing wrong that my mic does not work. I can sometimes hear other people, but they do not ever hear me. Please help.
