Would a GTX 970 be overkill for a PC running at 720p?

I'm curious to know.

I'm thinking about selling my Xbox One in order to buy a new GPU, and I'd have enough for a 960, 970, or anything on team Red thanks to that and holiday money. However, I game at 720p and I don't intend on upgrading my monitor, since I use it my gaming PC as a HTPC. I would DSR/VSR, since it gives me a clearer picture.

Would a GTX 960 4GB/R9 380 4GB do fine right now at 720p, or should I spring towards the 970 for futureproofing and the sort? Specs in flair.
