Honest Xbox 360 review/comparison with PC from new (but not proud) console owner

tl;dr - Even though consoles have couple advantages over PCs (which are minor) they still suck hard

Hey guys, recently because of my love for gaming I was forced to buy Xbox 360 (backstory is at the bottom of the post). After using it for half a week and before I forgot how playing games on PC feels I decided to put a review and/or comparison between gaming on PC and Xbox 360. Here ya go:

Controller pros (these apply to PC too if you have a controller, so I made it as separate section)

  • Playing on a couch - it's flipping amazing to just lay down, make yourself comfortable and enjoy gaming in any pose as you want.
  • Playing with friends - playing Mortal Kombat with my brother on one keyboard isn't as pleasant as having separate controllers.
  • Vibrating controllers - it might not sound as much, but somehow vibration at the right moments induces immersion.

Pros

  • If a game has Xbox 360 label it will definitely run on a console.
  • Exclusives (though if you really want to play a game you can always find a way to play it).
  • Lots of games have split-screen/co-op mode so you can play with your friends on one device.

Cons (aka the fun part)

  • FPS - are you freaking kidding me? Locked 30 fps looks like the game is lagging all the time.
  • Lag - most of the games run on 30fps and smoothly (if you can consider 30 fps being smooth), but newer ones, like CoD: Advanced Warfare or GTA:V lags, and at more gpu/cpu consuming scenes is almost non-playable. I'm talking about constant frame drops (even cinematic 30 fps is too much for it to handle) and occasional freezes. Fun part - you can't adjust graphics settings for smooth (hehe) framerate. This is the case even with the games which has VSync disabled for fps gain. *Lack of games - even though Xbox 360 has some exclusives on it's own, lack of games we have on PC is astonishing, especially a lack of indie games. *Lack of indie games - I love indie games and 90% of them isn't available on Xbox, even those wildly successful games. Thank god my weak old man (my laptop) can handle most of them. *Prices - yup, nope, definitely not buying new games for it. Guess it's clear why. *Mods - I opened up Skyrim, remembered there's no possibility of mods and closed it immediately. And that's a case for all the games currently. Who wants to play Skyrim without lute playing bears!? *Graphics - oh boy, here we go! It's a disgrace to call itself a gaming console with graphics like that. I know it's an old piece of hardware, but no peasant owning Xbox 360 or PS3 can't claim that consoles have better graphics. When I first hooked up my Xbox to TV I had to go quite a distance to not be able to see those huge squares. Menu looked like it was made in Minecraft, screenshotted and loaded up as an image. But the games looked even worse. GTA:V for example was a huge disappointment for me. I watched most of the GTA:V PC version gameplays and I knew console versions doesn't look as good, but damn I was shocked how ugly it looks! Oh, and 720p is the best it can have, it's half as bad as most PC screens and it makes game as ugly as fuck.
  • First person shooters/Aiming - this one is completely ridiculous. There's now way to aim accurate and quick. You always get struggling with a joystick to at least point in the direction where enemies are, and it's still very hard. There is of course a way to aim, in most cases when you press iron sight/zoom in button cursor locks on the stuff that you are looking at, this thing is also available on PCs and it's called aimbot. I can't imagine how can console peasants think that they are skillful while playing multiplayer shooters when they are using aimbot all the time. It's a fucking tragicomedy...

I might have missed some, so feel free to comment and let me know how console is better/worse than PC!

Backstory

Giving the situation of my income and savings there is no possibility of me buying at least a decent gaming PC, but a friend of mine offered to sell his old xbox 360 and butt loads of game for a very low price and I bought it. Don't get me wrong, I love PCs, from the gaming side they are definitely superior to consoles (no 30fps lock bullshit, mods and other good stuff), but I love games too, and unfortunately my laptop isn't good enough to meet my gaming needs (even though he tries hard, but the old folk can only squeeze out less than 30 fps on a newer games).

That's it for this post. May our framerates be high and our temperatures low!
