Problem getting an in-line mic cord (4 pin) to work with Apple devices.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Gsmarena

I recently purchased a gaming headset that also came with an in-line microphone for use with smartphones, tablets, ect... Pretty simple 4 pin 3.5mm jack that plugs into a combined audio in port. It works great on my dad's Samsung galaxy note (microphone AND answering the call with the button), however only the stereo function works in my iPhone and Macbook Pro. My dad owns a nice pair of Seinnheiser headphones with an in-line mic and those work just fine in my phone and both our Macbooks. I've talked to tech support on both ends; Polk says it should work and that it works fine with the iPhone 5S, and Apple is totally clueless. Both my iPhone and MBP are running the latest versions of iOS and OS X.

I have a feeling this is most likely a hardware issue, maybe Apple formats their 4 pin plugs in a different order than everyone else... I dunno. Anyone know why this might be, a work around, or nice compatible cables I can get online?
