The biggest financial success for the Dreamcast happened indirectly - leftover Dreamcast were repurposed for thel Fist of the North Star Pachinko and Pachislot machines, the most successful pachinko machines fo all time

This neat tidbit of more recent (as in post Dreamcast) history, came from a Japanese Interview with two former hardware Sega engineers that were involved with the Sega Saturn

Due to the withdrawal of Tozaki  game machines, the game machine related departments will undergo restructuring.forcedYogiIt was decided to be lost. At that time, I was in the president's office (of Hideki Sato, then the president of Sega), so I was aware that the restructuring plan was progressing. Sammy Chairman Satomi visited our company and gave us angreetingGreetingsI also remember what I did.

Even after I joined Sammy Sugai  , we actually had a lot of Dreamcast parts left over, and Sammy took over those parts, and Dreamcast chips were actually used to display images on the LCDs of pachinko and pachislot machines.

President Hideki Sato made proposals to Chairman Satomi Tozaki, including accepting talented members from Sega and repurposing Dreamcast inventory parts for pachinko and pachislot machines, and discussions began. Sammy's hugely successful pachislot machine ``Fist of the North Star (first generation )'' used Dreamcast's CPU and graphics chips.

If you look at the videos of the pachislot of the first generation which came out in 2003, you can tell it is pretty much Dreamcast graphics:

The money ranked up by FOTNS pachinko and pachislot as of 2020 is over 10 billion dollars.

Of course Sega used its Dreamcast parts up until 2009 for minor arcade games (after attempting to explore alot of other avenues including Xbox backwards compatibility and non-gaming related things), including lucrative kids card arcade games in Japan. But the main money maker for them for sure were those pachi games, and it's nice to know that it isn't completely divorced from Sega history. Its these profits that made Sega continue, including making company acquisitions that happened right after, including Creative Assembly in 2005 and Sports Interactive 2006.
