The Glitchy Wizard's Ruin 2023: Coin Purse Solution & Grog Mode Awards/Trophies

If you haven't figured it out, the awards on this game (as well as the game itself) is glitched three years after it's release, and Rockstar is showing no signs of fixing it any time soon. I took from many guides on the internet (including a YouTuber named Shadow) and compiled my findings to get the award myself and to write this.

Because the main focus is going to be getting coin purse, if you need Platinum Sword, just camp on the third level on the boss and kill the spider minions (see below for effective guide) and get your score to about 820,000 before winning. Otherwise, this guide is primarily focused on the buggy achievement Coin Purse.

The Glitch:

The glitch is where you are not able to get both Coin Purse and Platinum Sword on the same run, and even if you already have the Platinum Sword award, the Coin Purse gets cancelled out during your run when you get 1,000,000+ points.

The objective: you need to win with <1,000,000 points, but >950,000 need to be treasure. In other words, your goal is to reduce how many points you get from killing monsters and end-of-level bonuses.

Overall Rules: Coin Purse

  • Run through every level except the 4th and the beginning of the 3rd ignoring the enemies but getting the bottles. The goal is to minimize your kills since enemies give points.
  • Kill everyone on the screenlocks though (the areas where the screen doesn't move and enemies individually come through the left and the right). See each level for screenlock guides.
  • End each level killing the boss with about 20-30% of your health remaining on your last life.
  • Do NOT attempt boss fights without at least two lives: there is one 1up for each level starting after two but don't waste those-the boss fights are actually rhythmically challenging.
  • Your 3rd level is your dependent variable, and your 4th level is the control group. Do not end the 3rd level without 750,000-780,000 points (Don't go too far) and do not initiate the boss fight on the 4th level without See those levels for more information.

Combat Guide:

  • Warning for Playstation/Xbox Users: The attack button and the exit game button are literally assigned to the same button (Circle for Playstation, B for Xbox). 3 seconds held and you lose all your progress. Get in the habit of tapping angelically and moving your thumb tf out of the way.
  • You cannot jump and move north at the same time. You can freely jump in every other direction though.
  • Some enemies will come out of bounds to the north-avoid them.
  • If they have high-ground advantage (they're higher than you), don't go towards them. They will get the drop on you.
  • Stay behind your blade-you physically outrange every non-ranged enemy.
  • Get them all in one direction and hold them back that way
  • Your blade can also deflect projectiles, except for the 4th level boulders.
  • Enter each boss fight with full magic. Especially important on levels 2 and 3.
  • In screenlocks, pay attention to the direction enemies are flowing in-they come in individually alternating sides. When they come in one side, stay on that side behind the enemy that just came in. Don't hit anyone, and start making your way along the top or bottom side to the opposite end without getting hurt. The goal is to achieve a circular motion on your screen until they stop coming in and you have them all grouped onto one side.

One more note: MC/Nightclub Raids

It is possible for the game to exit just for you to land outside of your arcade dealing with a raid. Ask me how I know. You will likely be taking multiple runs going for this achievement for several hours, and one run from start-to-finish takes 40-50 minutes. I recommend selling all of your stock and not buying any more supplies until you get this unnecessarily glitched monster of an award done.

Level 1: Forest of Agony

  • Run through the level not killing anyone until you get to the screenlocks
  • The fairies will not give points unless you shock them, so consider that when running through.
  • Go ahead and shock the fairies on screenlocks-they only give 70 points and do drop treasure.
  • Orc Bowman arrows can be deflected with your sword.
  • Screenlocks
    • 1: Fairies and leprechauns, 8 enemies
    • 2: All enemies, 6 enemies
    • 3: All orcs and fairies, 10 enemies

Boss fight:

  • You can only deal damage by hitting the knight in the dick. No anal penetration from your mighty sword on the right side of him allowed.
  • Move on the sides to avoid his attacks.
  • When you get him to 25% of his health, kill everyone, then get your health down to 20-30% on your last life and end it.

Now things get hard-harder than his cock was after you sliced it off.

Level 2: Swamp of Sorrows

  • Run through the level not killing anyone until you get to the screenlocks
  • Avoid the snakes at all costs, even the first screenlock. Don't bother killing them
  • When there is more than one booger, dash through them in a row. This will be your best friend on the 1st screenlock and the boss fight
  • Screenlocks
    • 1: Snakes and boogers, 10 enemies
    • 2: Orcs, Minotaurs, and Boogers, 6 enemies
    • 3: Orcs and Minotaurs, 10 enemies

Boss fight:

  • Having both lives coming in is a must.
  • You must consider your position on the screen as the jump time.
  • When the Valkyrie charges, that is when you jump.
  • The Valkyrie will charge, wait, charge again, then sky attack. After they are kneeling from the sky attack is when they are vulnerable. It's all about rhythm
  • Ignore the snakes. When she send in boogers between 60-30% of her health remaining, kill both of them with a dash.
  • When you get her to 5% of her health, get your health down to 20-30% on your last life and end it.

Level 3: Labyrinths of Decay

  • Kill everyone going up to the first screenlock: you don't need the extra pressure on the bridge.
  • If you fall into a pit or off the bridge, you lose a life.
  • On the bridge, don't do the circular motion thing, instead stay in the center defending from the left first, then when all five enemies appear, lightning them into oblivion.
  • Don't get the treasure if it's too close to the side of the bridge.
  • For the rest of the mission, only kill spiders:
    • Their only damage point is their abdomen (the sacs). Hitting them in the head does nothing and will risk you getting hurt.
    • They take three hits to kill. The best way to do so is with jump kicks
    • You need to get in the habit of jumping into them, kicking the abdomen, backing up, and repeating. This is vital for your survival so you don't get hit.
  • Screenlocks:
    • 1: Unicorns and Cavemen, 5 enemies
    • 2: Black Knight (1st round boss)
      • It takes three barrages of six hits to kill him this time, not four
      • Taking damage on the lower half of the screen causes you to fall off and lose a life automatically (another fucking glitch)
      • Watch for the stalactites
    • 3: Unicorns, Cavemen, Spiders, 10 enemies

Boss fight:

  • You likely entered this fight with <500,000 points. GOOD.
  • You need to practice your spider killing technique to a level of mastery.
  • Spread your damage to the boss over time. Try to get him an inch from death around the 720,000 area.
  • Each spider kill has a strong give you a chalice for 4,000. Some will give you two, some will give you none, some will give you a health/magic bottle. If you've gone a while without getting treasure, try shocking them to see if a pattern resets.
  • Work your way up until you're in the 750,000-780,000 range. Then get to your last life with about 50% of your health left (in case if you mess up). Then end it.
  • Check the off-screen left and right sides occasionally in case spiders dropped collectibles off-screen.
  • Dealing with his attack pattern:
    • 1. Acid pool-puts a few acid pools on the map. Unavoidable at times, but the first hit doesn't hurt. Staying in the pool for too long will DEFINITELY hurt.
    • 2. You'll get an opening where you can get 10-15 hits as the spiders rappel down. When the first spider lands, he is going to raise a limb to swipe at you. Get to the bottom side.
    • 3. He will jump in the air. Kill a spider while you wait for his shadow to hold still. When he comes back down, you can literally jump into him (no kick required) and his attack will interrupt, no damage on either side sustained. The kick can marginally hurt him however. Kill the other spider while the attack cycle resets.

4. The Wizard's Tower

  • Kill everyone, but leave the treasure of those who aren't in the screenlocks on the ground. You may grab a couple by accident, that's okay.
  • Skeleton Swordsmen and Spearmen will all be Diamonds for 5,000 points each. Mages will drop chalices for 4,000 each.
  • The goal is to enter the boss fight with around 990,000-995,000. After the third screenlock, collect diamonds individually until you reach this range.
  • If you exceed a million even after the wizard dies, congratulations, you've wasted this run.
  • The Skeleton Mages can have their fireballs shot down.
  • You can't stop the boulders-don't try to win the fight.
  • You can't jump over the spikes-be patient and let them recede.
  • Screenlocks:
    • 1: Skeleton swordsmen and spearmen, 8 enemies
    • 2: Bats and boulders, 20-30 enemies/boulders
    • 3: Skeleton swordsmen and spearmen, 8 enemies

Boss fight:

  • The wizard is easy. His attack pattern is 4 columns coming out of the ground under you (keep moving), teleport to the left side and send a horizontal wave, and teleport and spawn three temporary doppelgangers.
  • You can even stand to the left/on top of him and deal damage to him this way.
  • You can also deal more damage when he is on the left side doing his wave attack-just stand to the left of him
  • When he splits into doppelgangers, the correct one to hit is the one with purple eyes. The fake ones have green eyes.
  • You can kill the doppelgangers with your sword, but not with magic, otherwise that gives you 100 points each.
  • When you get him to 5% of his health, get your health down to 20-30% on your last life and end it.

Now pray that you did enough to stay under 1,000,000 when the game is finished, then check your awards. Do not rely on the top left, it not announce your success. If you have the award, leave the arcade, and check your trophy cabinet.

Rockstar ain't got nothing on me.

Coming for that full case soon.

I totally agree that Rockstar should have fixed this years ago. If they are going to make a series of awards for a subcommunity to pursue, they need to honor their initial commitment and not require glitch-awareness of their players. I doubt they ever will, but for now, this guide is hopefully your best bet.

I hope this helps someone!
