Question about upcoming retrotink 4k

Hello all I have a 4k TV. I was planning to buy a retrotink 4k for my Xbox 360. Can somebody please explain exactly how that would work.

Like the 360 goes to 1080p in the console settings via standard HDMI.

So would I go

360 > HDMI > Retrotink > 4k TV ???

Is that how it works or will I need to use composite cables like

360 > Composite ,> Retrotink > 4k TV

And can somebody also explain how this makes sense/works

If some games are locked to 720p and 1080p will the upscaling still work? Or would it make it more blurry. If the game is in 720/1080 and its being output to 4,k
