I'm certainly preaching to the choir but as I play Soul Calibur 4 for the first time in 15 years I am astonished.
Firstly, the lie that xbox 360 caps at 720... I'm playing on an S95B and there are many resolution settings 1080p and beyond including multiple wide-screen modes. Most 360 games look better than Xbox One games before One X enhancements. I have a basic understanding of upscaling and either 360 is more powerful than recognized or the S95B is the greatest display on earth.
Next, the complete balance of visuals, gameplay, atmosphere, and responsiveness of this game on THIS console doesn't seem to be matched by my PS5 or Series X. Forza Motorsport 4, Halo 3-4 (YES 4) and a few other titles in my now growing collection are... better... than the new games?? I'm neither nostalgic nor biased. The entire experience of SC4 on 360 encapsulates the overall mastery of design present in very few titles of the previous and current generations. For example, playing Remember Me makes me wonder why HiFi Rush is special. No, I don't read reviews to formulate my own opinions so don't lecture me about 5 star perfect 10 Good of War etc. These games are fine. That's it.
Lastly, I absolutely ADORE hardware. I have a collection of Series Controllers on display and the enormous PS5 console is quite beautiful. Aaaand it seems that it is not so subtly the same as every 360 excluding the E and I've never read any publication to acknowledge this. All that aside, the 360 downloads to hard drive and load times are as fast as the SSD consoles. I know that games are larger in file size thanks to 4k textures etc. but I contend that for the time of production 360 is better in its time than XSX and PS5 in this regard. The game aren't any less deep, beautiful, expansive, or engaging for their meager file sizes.
Anyway, after owning every console since 360 and going back to it this year I'm ashamed I ever bought an Xbox One instead of riding out the 360 catalog that still impresses me to this day.
