1080p and FPS question.

My last XBOX was a 360. You could go into setting and set output mode to 720/1080 and get a performance boost.
From my understanding is that there is no such option in the Series X system menu and performance/fps is controlled mostly through in-game menu settings.

I'm still gaming on a 24" 1080p computer monitor and have no plan to upgrade to 4K monitor anytime soon. I have a 4K TV in the living room I rarely game on.

Question is, will I the Series X give me an FPS boost if for example I had everything maxed performance in-game? Since I'm asking for 1080p. Or will it always output 4k and the only fps boost is to adjust in-game settings?
