Hey guys! I believe the PS5/Xbox X are the "last" console generation. So far every 6/7 years for around the last 40 years a set of new consoles had come out that greatly expands what kinds of games can be created. I believe that the PS5 generation of consoles is the end of the line so to speak of this system. I believe the consoles will last at least 20 years if not more without a "PS6" or "Xbox 720". Btw I'm ignoring Nintendo for this because they kind of do their own thing. The main reason for this is that technology is just progressing much slower then before, in the 80s, 90s and 00s computational technology was advancing by leaps and bounds, practically every other year processing power straight up doubled.
Compare the kinds of games that were possible on the PlayStation (1995) to the PS2 (2000). It's a HUGE gap, same for the PS2 to the PS3 (2006). Another HUGE gap. This was possible because of this rapid development. But Moore's law is dead now and has been for over 10 years. These days it takes billions upon billions to find even slight advancements and we're essentially at the limit for how fast we can make computer chips. The PS5 generation of consoles are basically high end gaming PCs now, they have more RAM then devs know what to do with, near endless processing power and graphics that may as well be reality. There's simply no need for any more consoles since the current generation can provide everything the developers could possibly need and magnitudes more. Maybe they'll be VR generations in the future but as far as controller in hand traditional gaming consoles, the PS5/Xbox X is the end of the line. CMV
