So I use Shadow mostly for video editing, 3-D programs, and some game dev. It has worked flawless for my expectations. Because of storage space I did not have many games, and I HATE that launching a game sometimes changes the overall resolution even after closing (that's besides the point).
Most of my gaming is one on Stadia, Xbox, and Switch.
So again, my main use for Shadow has been creative and media work. It worked really well for me because I could edit websites and videos on my Surface Go or Surface Pro 5 at work, or at night time. Heck, I even could take it to Starbucks and do heavy lifting that my Surface devices otherwise would struggle with.
Now I'm using a Surface Pro X, and I'm having some software compatibility, but I LOVE this device. Shadow works great on it, and that solves compatibility issued because I can run virtually any software through Shadow.
The thing is: I'm not using Shadow as much anymore, and in November it will go up to $40+ for me ... And because I live with a gamer, and he plays a LOT and every day, and because I use Stadia a lot, we're constantly hitting out data cap..
So I'm looking at about $60 / month.
My question is... To keep Shadow or to not keep it?
I'm looking at similar alternatives, like a base gaming desktop or laptop, but if I don't want to pay interest, my credit cards let me finance for just 12 months... so I'd have to get something around $720 if I'm thinking about $60 / month.
A gaming laptop may not be the best for design either, BUT if it gives me the same experience as Shadow, I don't mind.
Then again, I will NOT take a gaming laptop to Starbucks or even to work, because a Surface Pro X is truly portable, and that's what makes Shadow so convenient in my case... but still, $60 / month? What am I? A rich man?
So I'm curious? What would you guys do?-Again, I have my "gaming needs" met elsewhere, though I have a few games installed and I can always uninstall and install others if I needed to.
TLDR::
I use Shadow mostly for media and design. I will be paying $60/month for Shadow and data overage. Will a gaming laptop under $800 be a better option? I use Shadow on a Surface Pro X, which is ultra portable and has a good battery life, so a gaming laptop would NOT replace my SPX.
Thanks!!!
