XBox has completely failed in naming their consoles and have forgotten what it means to be cool

Can we all agree that whoever is in charge of naming the consoles for Xbox at Microsoft should be impaled on a spike and held at the gates for all wannabe marketing guys to be warned of? Let's go back in time:

It's 2001. Microsoft wants to enter into the gaming market. They release the Xbox. Its a fun kitschy name that is meant to attract "gamers." It's success is basically totally contingent on Halo. Rating = B

Fast forward to 2005. Microsoft is looking to be the first in the next generation and get ahead of the curve. But they don't wanna call their console the Xbox 2 because that means they would always be one number behind the PlayStation 3 etc. So they go with Xbox 360. They go full tilt on the Spherical marketing and actually win the generation vs. Sony. It was a huge step up for Microsoft and the marketing was a huge part of it with gamers flocking to the system and online. They eventually added onto it with a slim edition called the Xbox 360 S. Rating = A+

Then 2013 rolls around. People have been wondering for years what the next generation of Xboxes would be called. Some ventured 720. Some ventured infinity. No one, and I repeat no one, though they would call it the fucking Xbox One. A horrible name made in a board room that left little room for any fun or creativity. The only saving grace was it had a killer nickname in X-BONE Worst of all it alienated gamers. They felt abandoned in the push for some cablebox/gaming hybrid and flocked to PlayStation at the lower price. But they didn't lose all their good will from the 360. They eventually released two enhanced editions in 2017 called the Xbox one S & The Xbox One X. A little basic if you ask me, but they are only upgraded versions so there is much to be excpected. Rating - D+

And that brings us to 2020, and Xbox has the opportunity to try and court gamers again. What do they release? Two consoles that look like basic ass PCs named the Xbox Series S & the Xbox Series X. Are you serious?! They just recycled their names from the upgraded Xbox One!! Which Failed!!! Did they learn nothing?! And then headlines come out saying that PlayStation 5 is outselling the Xbox Series like 3 to 1 and its bonkers to me. Did you learn nothing from the Xbox One? Did you learn Nothing from the fucking Wii U? Rating = F

Gamers want cool simple titles that shows they got the newest shit. They are like sports cars. There is a reason those cars are called 911 and Mustang and Camaro because its sexy and simple. The Sega Genesis, The Playstation and the Xbox 360 were all able to break into the market by selling the new hip thing that the old guard of game wasn’t doing anymore. I don't know how they have lost touch with what is cool so fast.

And this is no way an indictment on the machinery or the games. Just a complete failure in marketing that has left me ice cold, and clearly many of other potential gamers. There is a reason that the newest playstation looks like a fucking spaceship and the newest xbox looks like a blackbox you’d find after a planecrash.
