I've dug up a lot of websites and did some ample research too. But would like to hear your perspective too as i didn't find any article which matches my needs. Now i am asking this question in advance. I'd be buying either of these next year (~aug 2021). When my college year begins. I've owned a PS2 before and personally love the PS ecosystem more and the PC gets most of the stuff the XBOX has , so yeah its not in my mind now.
I'd mention my points. Share your thoughts about it. My budget is ~$1750. Have been saving for a while.
- The PS ecosystem and ambience. I do like the PS4 over PS5 because of it sounding similar to the PS2. But there's still something special with PS that the PC just can't have.
- Not a hardcore gamer. I like to play casually and i play games across all genres and eras. Which makes PC better for me. I can emulate the PS2 games i had as well as the old PC games too. Greater Backwards Compatibility is also another thing.
- Don't do any editing work but as a guitarist i need a PC for music related stuff. And obviously the sheer flexibility the PC offers! I can do anything on it. College Projects, Movies etc.
- PS5 is simple. Plug in and play. No complexity like the PC. I'd get like 2 hours on Sundays to play games so thats the max have. If that time goes onto optimizing settings then i'm done.
- Exclusives don't mean much to me. Its like 'good if i have it, not a big deal if i don't'.
- The college hostel won't be offering any 4K tv so yeah i'd be getting a 720 or 1080P TV for the PS5. I can buy a 4K monitor for the PC. And due to space limitations i'd have to sit in front of the monitor if i used it for PS5 anyways.
- I have a controller with me for the PC. So its not a major factor for me when it comes to consoles.
- PS5 is easier to carry around and play with friends.
- I am looking at a long term scenario, like next 7-8 years without too many upgrades. A high end PC would serve me well i guess. I'm fine with tweaking settings if my hardware isn't meeting the standards. PS5 is gonna come with preset settings which i don't like that much. But it indeed takes the win when it comes to future proofing.
- I can repair my PC if i want. But PS5? Nope.
some people told me just to get the PS5 for gaming and a mid end PC for the rest of the stuff. Is that a good idea? Is the PS5 worth it or should i just go for a high end PC instead?
