The Form
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
- Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
- 0 USD to 1,400 USD, in the United States of America. - Are you open to refurbs/used?
-Yes, as long as there is a good/decent warranty - 2 years at least/ - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
- An 2 in 1 would be great, but I am fine with ultrabooks, workstations, and other things. I would prefer for it to not be too heavy, at least 12 gigs of ram (16 would be optimal), Ryzen 5 and up, or intel 7 (10th gen and up) and up, can withstand light-decent gaming, and programming/simulations - beginner to intermediate level. I would like it to behave decent build quality, but I am normally careful with my possesions anyways. A discrete GPU such as an mx250, 350, (or a better one if it fits in the budget), etc, or Iris Xe would be good. Please don't recommend gaming laptops, unless don't have RGB, aren't too heavy, and don't have too much gamer aesthetic. Good battery life would be nice, but not necessarily needed, 6+ is the bare minimum, 10+ would be really nice with moderate use such as web surfing. I don't really care about the screen, as long as it is reasonably big (13 in+), fairly color accurate (70-80% up), 1080p/HD and up, and decently bright (300 nits at least). A touchscreen would be nice, but definitely not needed unless it is 2 in 1. I will be using a lot of Zoom on it (FYI), so a 720 p + camera is a must). I would like a decent keyboard (not very high expectations, just shouldn't be annoying), it is backlit, and having a dark color would be nice (backlit with light-colored keyboards are annoying to me). There should be a decent amount of ports, USB A, USB c, HDMI, ethernet, and thunderbolt would be nice, but I am fine with the bare minimum as long as other specs match my requirements. Heat management should be fine, shouldn't burn me, or like slowly destroy the computer lol, but at the same time the fans should be too loud or annoying (fine with a bit of noise and heat, but not too much). - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Not too much, it should be manageable, and should be able to fit into a decently big backpack, and shouldn't be too much of a strain to carry around. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Just should be practical, like 13 in. +, otherwise I don't care - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Yes. It should be able to run most adobe applications, like photoshop, premier pro, programming (vscode, sublime, etc), light AI development, should be able to run most educational simulation programs like CAD, and other 3d development stuff. I am fine with it not being the fastest, but it should be able to get it done without crashing or taking an abnormal amount of time. I will also do light gaming with maybe some Minecraft, genshin impact, world of warcraft, league of legends, and maybe csgo. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
yes, Minecraft, and other games like Genshin impact, the world of warcraft, some games from Xbox pass like Halo, and league of legends. My bare minimum would be 60 fps at the lowest settings (not primarily used for gaming, only in past time). - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Windows Hello, fingerprint reader would be nice, but again is completely not necessary. Don't care too much about the touch screen. The keyboard should be of decent quality, shouldn't be annoying to type on, and would preferably be dark and have backlighting. I would prefer for the trackpad to be decent (reasonably big, and shouldn't break or wear down too much). I don't care about build quality except it shouldn't be falling apart with normal use, I will put it in a backpack, but I usually get cases, screen protectors, and am quite careful with electronics. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
Don't really care about what company it is, except it shouldn't really have any form of gamer aesthetic to it, and preferably not a Lenovo machine, but am fine if they are giving the right machine with the right specs. A good warranty/repair policy would be ABSOLUTELY GREAT, but I know that can be a bit hard to find these days. Also should have reasonable speaker, and port selection (like an audio jack, USB a, USB c, etc.). I am fine with windows and apple (no specific hate to any company lol). I would LOVE for the laptop to last 4+ years, I am absolutely fine with it being a bit slow after 4 years, but it would be great if it could last a bit of time. If you have any more questions you can ask me. I don't care if it comes from online, as long as it comes completely functioning. Thank you for all of your help, please find a laptop as close to my specifications.
