***WARNING*** Math Inside.... Skip to TLDR if you don't want to read....
INTRO:
People keep complaining about the Fire Axe. While I completely agree its currently a top tier weapon (on PC) I DONT agree with just a blanket damage nerf.
To over simplify why, lets give a very basic example. Lets pretend the Axe deals 1,000 damage per hit per second. If a player has 3,000 HP. This takes roughly 3 axes (3 seconds) to chicken a player. If all you did was lower the damage to 999 (a mere 1 damage decrease) this now requires 1 more axe to kill increasing its TTK up to 4 seconds (a 33% nerf!)
Thus, a mere .1% damage decrease, ACTUALLY results in a 33% TTK increase.... A massive nerf. This will cause the Fire Axe to be UNDER powered if not balanced accordingly!!!!!
ASSUMPTIONS:
- Heavy Hammer - recorded 29 throws in 20 seconds = 1.45 Hammers per second.
- Axe - recorded 19 throws in 20 seconds = .95 Axes per second.
- Heavy Hammer = 550/600 damage
- Axe = 800//875 damage
- Purple Hammer +20% Warrior: 660 damage per throw
- Gold Hammer +20% Warrior: 720 damage per throw
- Purple Axe + 20% Warrior: 960 damage per throw
- Gold Axe +20% Warrior: 1140 damage per throw - includes Fire DOT
DPS Calculations: (Damage * Fire Rate). *Second Number is Assuming Warrior +20%.
- Purple Hammer = 797.5 DPS (957 DPS)
- Gold Hammer = 870 DPS (1,044 DPS)
- Purple Axe = 760 DPS (912 DPS)
- Gold Axe =888.25 DPS (1065.9 DPS)
TTK Calculations (Assuming 3,000 HP vs Warrior +20% Weapon Damage):
- Purple Hammer = 5 Hammers = 3.44 Sec TTK
- Gold Hammer = 5 Hammers = 3.44 Sec TTK
- Purple Axe = 4 Axes = 4.2 Sec TTK
- Gold Axe = 3 Axes = 3.15 Sec TTK

RECOMMENDATION:
- Swap the Damage and Fire Rate of Heavy Hammer and the Axe.
- ONE of the main reasons Fire Axe is so potent, is its ability to Peak-Throw. Heavy Hammer cannot do this as effective because of its side throw, forces you to peak further, exposing MORE of your body to throw.
- Increasing the Axes Refire Rate, and lowering its damage overall, forces the axe-user to have their body explosed for longer periods of time.
- Heavy Hammer should be the "Heavy-Hard Hitting" Weapon for the Warrior, with slower ROF, that works more like a Sniper/Longbow for the Warrior.
(UPDATED) TTK Values Post-Swap: (3,000 HP vs Warrior +20%)
- Purple Hammer (800 base) = 960 per throw = 4 Hammers @ 1.05 = 4.2 Sec TTK (UP from 3.44)
- Gold Hammer = (880 base) = 1056 per throw = 3 Hammers @ 1.05 = 3.15 Sec TTK (DOWN from 3.44)
- Purple Axe = (550 base) = 660 per throw = 5 Axes @ .689/sec = 3.44 Sec TTK (DOWN from 4.2)
- Gold Axe = (600 base + Fire DOT) = 5 Axes @ .689/sec = 3.44 Sec TTK (UP from 3.15)
META CHANGE:
- Fire Axe will still be a top tier weapon. But slightly nerfed to require more exposure while throwing as well as slightly increased TTK (~.3 seconds longer).
- Heavy Hammer (Gold) will see a slight increase in usage. Currently under performing due to inability to peak-throw as well. Slight decrease in optimal TTK might help make up for that!
- Heavy Hammer more fits its role as a "sniper" type weapon.
- Axe more fits its role as a "mid range" type weapon.
- GOLD Hammer and PURPLE Axe = TTK buffs.
- PURPLE Hammer and GOLD Axe = TTK nerfs.
DISCLOSURES:
- I have played Realm both on Xbox and PC. I have played Crossplay on both platforms.
- I have over 600 wins on my PC account. Master in all 3 playlists (before AND post-reset).
- My Warrior (on PC) is almost Level 90... So I have played quite a bit on this class.
- My other 3 classes (Mage/Assassin/Hunter) are all over level 30.
- Fire DOT - This was tricky testing. I got multiple values for the Fire DOT. I got 72 damage in some cases, and 90 damage in other cases. I was under the impression it was ~100 damage and something LIKE 5 ticks of 20, or 4 ticks of 25... Either way, it doesnt seem to impact TTK values at 3k or 3,3k.
