So, I did a write up on all the little issues with unlocking the new LMG earlier today. I did manage to unlock it and grind out gold camo on it in the past day and a half. To be open I really like this weapon. It's not a meta changing armament, but it definitely fills a hole in the gun pool that has needed filling for some time. I thought it was time to take a look at what it brings to the table. So, I am going to do a write-up and cover the weapon's basic stats.
Just a note this is all hand-tested and I use the Xbox's built-in game DVR to get my numbers. So, there is going to be a margin of error in some of my stats. For example, the fire rate could be off by 20 RPM or the ADS speed could be off by a few frames for example. This is more of a ballpark discussion so you'll know if the Bruen MK9 is worth 3 and a half hours or 1200 COD points. So please bear with me if there are a few mistakes in the stats. (It is!)
The gun:
The Bruen MK9 is a 4 shot kill at all ranges. It can 3 shot with all upper torso shots or 1 headshot out to about 35. The fire rate I measured is 710 to 720 RPM. Handling is nice, but it's still an LMG. We have an ADS time of .417 seconds by default, Sprint out is about .334 seconds. We have the standard LMG hipfire spread and a base movement speed of about 91% and our ADS strafe speed is 40%. So, a little better than some SMGs, but just marginally.
By default, we have a 100 round magazine with a typical 5.6 second reload. Recoil is moderate but quite predictable and controllable with some practice. The weapon will kick up left very similar to the Ram7. One other thing to note is that the Bruen MK9 does seem to have lower wall penetration that it's peers. It will normally take an extra bullet or two to wall bang someone as compared to the PKM or M91. This might be from slightly lower base damage or just coding since the weapon uses 556 ammo.
Overall, you get a marginally better handling LMG that of some range and penetration compared to some of its peers. The M91 and PKM hang onto their 3 shot upper chest multiplier for a few more meters. The PKM also has a higher fire rate and the M91 is slightly more accurate. However, the Bruen MK9 really starts to come to the party when you look at some of the attachments that it offers compared to the other LMGs on offer.
The Build:
So, I spent 7 and a half hours unlocking and leveling up this gun. After all that time this was the class that I came to be what best suits my playstyle. It also makes good use of the unique qualities that the Bruen MK9 brings to the table.
Primary Weapon: Bruen MK9
Attachments: Skeleton Stock, FMJ, Grandulated Grip tape, 60 Round Magazine, 18 Para Barrel
Secondary Weapon: Pistol of Choice
Attachment: Attachments of choice
Perk 1: Cold Blooded
Perk 2: Restock
Perk 3: Spotter
Tactical: Stim Shot
Lethal: C4
Now some of you will probably recognize the attachments that I have here. After 7 hours I did come to this kit on my own, but if you look at the blueprint in the shop all we've done here is swap out the reflex sight for FMJ. So, unlike some blueprint, the one in the shop really is optimally set up for the Bruen MK9 and worth considering if you want to skip the grind. The Para barrel, Skeleton stock and 60 round mag speed up our handling considerably. We now have a 94% move speed and 57% ADS strafe. Likewise, we have a .3 second ADS and sprint out time on the weapon with these attachments.
The trade-off for these attachments is our 3 shot kill range is now 31 meters, we have more recoil and our magazine was cut from 100 down to 60. However, the 60 round magazine speeds up our reload to a little over 2 seconds. The Granulated tape grip helps to recover the lost recoil control at the cost of a little more idle sway. Likewise, FMJ gives us back penetration for challenging opponents behind cover or campers through walls. It also helps to shred most kill streaks in a single magazine as well. This pairs nicely with cold-blooded and spotter to see enemy equipment and streaks and provide protection from them.
For our equipment, C4 can solve a variety of problems and dispatch enemy equipment. Likewise, this is a more aggressive LMG kit. So, stim shots are nice to keep our health topped up in the thick of it. The reload is quick for an LMG but slow enough to get you killed. So, having a pistol to fall back on is a good idea. You'll start with 3 mags or 180 rounds, but 556 ammo is common as dirt in this game. So, supply really isn't a problem.
This setup is a well-rounded kit best suited for a midrange patroling style. You can be more aggressive, but you will still get outmatched by shotguns and SMGs up close. So, it's best to preaim around corners with the skeleton stock when entering CQB areas. Better yet if you think someone is camping you have 60 rounds on tap and FMJ. Just shoot them through the wall and don't give them a chance to shoot back. Overall, it's a very well rounded kit that holds it's own at most of the ranges common in the multiplayer maps in this game.
If you want you can employ the Bruen MK9 in a more traditional defensive LMG role. Grab the big ammo attachment, a heavy barrel, and thermal sight. Then get yourself a nice head glitch to camp on. But, overall the PKM still fills that role better. The Bruen MK9 is a welcome addition to the meta and fills a role that has been absent from the LMG pool since the launch of this game. So, definitely check this gun out. I think you enjoy your time with it.
