Running Project xCloud On Shield [Guide]

My Nvidia Shield Pro is running 8.1.1 and here is how I was able to play 50 Free Xbox Games on Project xCloud:

Software needed:
  • xCloud Preview APK (Push the APK from your phone or use Downloader and download this direct on your shield.

Registration:
  • Fill in the form here It took me 24 hours to get my welcome email. You will need a Microsoft account to do this, if you don't have one, you can register for a new one on the same page.

Hardware:
  • Minimum 10mb internet (I have ~70mbs)
  • Xbox One controller / Shield gaming controller (I used Xbox one controller over bluetooth, then over USB and finally the Shield Controller - Overall, I had a more consistent experience with the Shield controller

Steps:
  1. Install the xCloud preview APK (I used downloader to download it directly on my device)
  2. Pair your controller
  3. Use sidelauncher to start xCloud game streaming (certain screens will be in porait mode as this software is designed for a cell phone)
  4. Log in using your MS account you registered for xCloud
  5. You will now see a library of about 50 games to start streaming
  6. Once in a game, press the back button and you will see an option to exit game
How well does it run?

I ran it over 5Ghz and there is a lot of pixelation. It is better over Ethernet but I still saw lots of artefacts / compression. Input lag was ok, it was there but not terrible. Certain games (Halo / general FPS's) its more noticeable as you need that quicker response. However for an initial preview, its still pretty impressive. I also tried this on my Samsung phone and it did seem to run better. FYI - the preview is capped at 720.
