Yesterday I had a free day off from work and I spent many hours of that day to get the mandatory stuff done towards 100% progression this week in FH4. After the fun stuff I got used to doing (which in the end is only the normal singleplayer season championships, since they allow me to play a car with the stock tune which is what I prefer to do), I was forced into tuning an Abarth for the weekly Forzathon challenge, forced into my tuned 720s for a speed trap and speed zone, forced into my dirt-spec tuned BMW M6 for the danger sign. On the bright side, I loved doing the new BMW Z4 rivals event, I believe rivals are fun and indeed underused in the game (my opinion). But so far... all still fine. While doing the aforementioned stuff, both daily Forzathon challenges were done as well, so 2/7 on that counter. Still very silly I have to sit here day by day to wait to unlock the greyed out stuff. For the love of God Playground, let us do ALL the 7 daily things over the entire week! You should not force people to play the game at least once per 3 days AND on a Wednesday, it’s just absolutely silly game design.
Then we get into the multiplayer side of things and stuff gets ugly...
I start with The Trial event which is just horrible game design. Who ever thought it would be a fun experience to group a player with 5 randoms and do a team race against unbeatable drivatars? Not expert drivatars like on the solo championships, nope, it has to be UNBEATABLE drivatars! Playground let me tell you, the fact that we need to group with randoms and depend on them to win this event is already hard enough, you could have kept the expert difficulty drivatars and it would already be frustrating enough. I pop into the event, pick whatever car I see, enter the race. I stuck to the end but we lost with 2-3 or 1-4 I believe, not sure. Gave up on it for now more or less like a rage-quit, sponsored by the horrible The Trial memories of the past months.
Let’s try the PVP races then! Luckily, I already did this dreadfull 10 (ten! TEN!!!) championships (yes, CHAMPIONSHIPS!) to qualify for team adventure a while ago, so I could either do 1 championship there now or else do the TEN qualifying championships for solo play... yeah right. I entered the game, while waiting for this 3 minute countdown timer my attention went to my iPad next to me and I kinda forgot about the game. I hit X to join and on the next screen forgot I had to pick a car, so I snagged one last minute being the Alumicraft buggy, of course stock tune since I prefer driving stock cars. Of course I end up last place in my team the entire championship, but apparently we didn’t need the win so all was fine I thought. Until this dude from my team starts sending me messages on Xbox how I was always lost place (together with another guy) and we caused the team to loose. I assume he was one of the top players in our team and frustrated that despite his good performance we didn’t win. I told him very polite that I wa sjust here for one race, I don’t like PVP at all and that the devs are now forcing me into PVP if I want to keep getting the exclusive cars. Also told him I could only quickly grab an untuned car at the end of the timer with the seconds counting down. The guy starts calling me selfish and that I should have left the team and that I did not understand what he meant. At this point point he started to get more and more rude, was really starting to get on my nerves as well, I told him he could piss off and take it up with the devs if he didn’t like PVE players in PVP and I muted the conversation. Anyway, the PVP race completion was done.
Then back to The Trial (this was with some Anthem gaming in between since I absolutely needed a break from the game). Now I wanted to prepare myself better, checked the requirement, saw it was modern muscle and from earlier I remember it being partially on dirt. I remember from a past Trial back in 2018 i was also forced into tuning a muscle car with dirt spec, and indeed i found an old AWD dirt tune for one of the Cadillacs. It worked out decent and this time we won, phew. But only because myself and 2-3 other players were always topping the leaderboards, the pack of drivatars in between and 2 other guys at the bottom of the list, probably just noobing around in a stock car like I always prefer to do myself as well.
Then the last one, the dreaded Playground Games. O...M....F....G.... seriously. It started with needing to tune a car, I took the lightest of the class (HDT Group A thingy), added a twin turbo and upgrades to get 9.8 acceleration and 10 launch, used ForzaTune to tune the darn thing for Dirt spec (since I’m not a tuner) and unsurprisingly the car worked out nice for this style of gameplay. But this time around the car nor myself was not not problem:
Game 1 - We started with 4 vs 5. Huh? We lost the first game. People left, I left as well.
Game 2 - We started with 5 vs 5. We lost the first game. People left, I left as well.
Game 3 - We started with 5 vs 5. We lost the first game. People left, I left as well. During game 3 I also got stuck in the environment, apparently “reset car” does not work in this game mode? Eventually I broke loose from the awkward position I was in to eventually just fall through the world and get reset that way. Right.
Game 4 - Finally the odds turned around! We started with 5 vs 5. We lost the first game but apparently the other team lost a guy. Disconnect? I don’t know. We won the second game. People on the other team left. After the 3rd game there was only 1 guy left on the opposing team, from then on there was no actual gameplay happening with 5vs1, it was a shitty waiting for the timers to end the game. I felt sorry for the 1 guy on the opposing team (who parked his car on the side while my team was capping flags). I parked next to him, just waiting for the timer. Then a game of team king or something appeared and eventually we got 5 games done, we won, and I got the challenge unlocked.
Now I am 95% completion for this week, waiting for every day to do the shitty daily thing, only to be able to get the 100% summer car (Porsche 914/6) on next Wednesday. Seriously... what a retarded waiting game. I spent way more time to do this than previous weeks, apart from the usual championships in my stock cars I was NOT having fun.
Playground games should look at Sledgehammer Games who created Call of Duty WW2 and learn from them. Call of Duty WW2 is a singleplayer and multiplayer shooter. Inside its multiplayer experience is this absolutely RETARDED game mode where one team plays as furniture and shit and needs to hide on the map. The other team needs to find them and shoot them. In NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM does Sledgehammer FORCE people to play the stupid furniture gameplay mode to UNLOCK NEW WEAPONS. It’s something silly, something stupid on the side, it’s fluff. It’s not core gameplay. If Sledgehammer wants to put a spotlight on the mode, they give it 2XP for a weekend or so. That is good game design.
The Playground Games modes in Forza Horizon are like the furniture mode in COD. They are retarded, silly, stupid and they SHOULD be fluff on the side. They should NOT be a REQUIREMENT to unlock new cars FFS. If you want to put your fluff mode in the spotlight, by all means give an XP or credit bonus to it on certain weekends but don’t force it on everyone the way it is now.
This week’s update has absolutely got to be the WORSE update I have ever seen in any Forza game. This is worse than the loot boxes in FM7, heck I would even prefer to have all cars in a car pack and pay 7 EUR for the darn thing than having to go through all this frustration another week.
Amen.
