Xbox Four names

My buddy and I are kicking around possible names for the next-gen Xbox. Microsoft absolutely sucks at naming their awesome products, so rather than have to see the Xbox Two, Xbox 720, or Xbox Home, here are some names we came up with that we think are pretty cool.

  1. Xbox Infinite - Halo Infinite has been announced for next gen, Microsoft has shown they're pretty partial to pulling product names from the game already.
  2. Xbox Infinity - sounds almost as cool, but rolls off the tongue slightly easier.
  3. Xbox Fire - although they could be accused of plagiarizing Amazon, but I think it's worth it for this cool name.
  4. Xbox Z - I thought about Xbox Zero, but it's pretty easy fodder for critics to write reviews like "there are ZERO reasons to buy Microsoft's crappy new console when you could be sucking off Sony like us"
  5. Xbox Cube - kind of rips off the Game Cube, and it's a little on the nose, but hey, Microsoft decided that a circle with an X should represent Xbox, so I wouldn't put it past them.
  6. Xbox Core - this one was my buddy's big idea, it evokes Cortana.
  7. Xbox 4 - okay, so we know the reason why they've never done numerical order names in the past, because they don't want to be perceived as being a step behind Sony, but does that really still matter? It's better than xXbox One Xx

Anybody else have favorite ideas? I'm still waiting for the Xbox Eksboks

Epic, please make this game playable on the Xbox One. Maybe give us graphic options?

I recently got a One X and was having 0 issues playing StW and BR on my 1080P TV. The improvement over the One was tremendous. I actually forgot how great it was to play a match without any lag, stutter, or crashing.

Now I got a 4K TV and while BR still runs at 60 FPS, StW runs like crap. I have to lower my setting to make it acceptable.

So what I used to do with my old Xbox One (Lower to 720), I now have to do with the One X to get an acceptable frame rate on StW.

At 4K on the One X, I still have all the issues I had with playing the game at 1080P on my original One.

Only after lowering it to 1080P do I experience the game the way it was meant to be played (no rubber banding, crashing, or extreme lag/stutter).

Please introduce some graphic options so I can lower the shadows and reflections and such. I don't need it to play and the performance gain would be huge.

World of Warcraft (WoW) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released in 2004 by Blizzard Entertainment. It is the fourth released game set in the Warcraft fantasy universe.[3] World of Warcraft takes place within the Warcraft world of Azeroth, approximately four years after the events at the conclusion of Blizzard's previous Warcraft release, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.[4] Blizzard Entertainment announced World of Warcraft on September 2, 2001.[5] The game was released on November 23, 2004, on the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise.

The first expansion of the game, The Burning Crusade, was released on January 16, 2007.[6] The second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, was released on November 13, 2008.[7] The third expansion, Cataclysm, was released on December 7, 2010. The fourth expansion, Mists of Pandaria, was released on September 25, 2012.[8] The fifth expansion, Warlords of Draenor, was released on November 13, 2014.[9] The sixth expansion, Legion, was released on August 30, 2016.[10] The seventh expansion, announced on November 3, 2017, is Battle for Azeroth.

With a peak of 12 million subscriptions in October 2010 and Blizzard's final report of 5.5 million subscriptions in October 2015,[11] World of Warcraft remains the world's most-subscribed MMORPG,[7][12] and holds the Guinness World Record for the most popular MMORPG by subscribers.[13][14][15][16] In January 2014, Blizzard announced that more than 100 million accounts had been created over the game's lifetime.[17] The game has grossed $9.23 billion in revenue, making it one of the highest-grossing video games of all time.[18]

At BlizzCon 2017, Blizzard announced that it is developing a classic server option that provides a way to experience the game before any of its expansions launched.[19]

As posted on the minimum requirement:

OS: Windows XP/Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8/Windows 10 with latest service pack.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 or AMD Phenom II X3 720.

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 440 or AMD Radeon HD 5670 or Intel HD Graphics 5000.

RAM: 2 GB.

Starting a character or play session

As with other MMORPGs, players control a character avatar within a game world in third- or first-person view, exploring the landscape, fighting various monsters, completing quests, and interacting with non-player characters (NPCs) or other players. Also similar to other MMORPGs, World of Warcraft requires the player to pay for a subscription by using a credit or debit card, using prepaid Blizzard game cards or using a WoW Token purchased in-game. Players without a subscription may use a trial account that lets the player character reach up to level 20 but has many features locked.[20]

To enter the game, the player must select a server, referred to in-game as a realm. Each realm acts as an individual copy of the game world and falls into one of four categories. Available realms types are:

Normal – a player versus environment (PvE) realm where the gameplay is more focused on defeating monsters and completing quests, player-versus-player fights must be consensual, and any roleplay is optional.

PvP (player versus player) – an environment where, in addition to defeating monsters and completing quests, open PvP combat is allowed so a player may be attacked by the opposing faction's players at any time.

RP (roleplay) – a variant of PvE, where players roleplay in-character.

RP-PvP – roleplay-PvP – a variant of PvP, where players are in-character and cross-faction combat is allowed.

Realms are also categorized by language, with in-game support in the language available.[21]

Players can make new characters on all realms within the region, and it is also possible to move already established characters between realms for a fee.[22]

Main article: Races and factions of Warcraft

To create a new character, in keeping with the storyline of previous Warcraft games, players must choose between the opposing factions of the Alliance or the Horde; Pandaren, which were added in Mists of Pandaria, do not commit to a faction until after the starting zone is completed. Characters from the opposing factions can perform rudimentary communication (most often just "emotes"), but only members of the same faction can speak, mail, group and join guilds. The player selects the new character's race, such as orcs or trolls for the Horde, or humans or dwarves for the Alliance.[23] Players must select the class for the character, with choices such as mages, warriors, and priests available.[24] Most classes are limited to particular races.

10 World of Warcraft Tips & Tricks You Need to Know

WoW Rookie: 8 tips the veterans use in their gameplay

Get some addons. ...

Grab a partner. ...

Don't enchant items you'll replace soon. ...

Don't buy anything from the auction house. ...

Use a damage meter. ...

Click targets to reduce accidents. ...

Item levels count. ...

Dying isn't much of a penalty.

  1. Dying isn't much of a penalty. Don't be afraid to die. It's disappointing, and you can accrue some very mild repair costs. But especially as a lower-level player, don't be afraid to die. Some of the best moments in the game come when you say, "I can't believe I lived through that," and you can't get to those moments without risking death.

  1. Item levels count. In general, gear has two scales of quality. Green, blue, and purple is one scale, while raw item level is the other scale. As a general rule, gear is always better with a higher item level. Purple gear is the best within the same tier of item level, while green is the worst. When in doubt, you usually want to go with the highest item level possible.

  1. Click targets to reduce accidents. Everyone knows you can just hit Tab to target. Slapping Tab quickly lets you cycle through enemy targets fast. The only problem is that it's easy to too tab too quickly and accidentally pull extra enemies.

Click targeting will clean that up. Depending on your speed with the mouse, you won't lose much DPS time by click targeting instead of using Tab. However, even if you lose a second or so while click targeting your enemy, it will definitely be safer.

That being said, of course, tabbing when all the local mobs are already aggro is just fine.

  1. Use a damage meter. I know. I advise against addons all the time, since I believe they turn into a crutch that retards your skills. I carefully caveat that idea, though; some areas of the game absolutely demand addons, because Blizzard provides no functionality for those portions. Damage meters are an example of that.

While I loathe the DPS-obsessed mentality you usually find on the official forums, the fact of the matter is that you can't improve your damage if you don't know what it is in the first place. Nothing in the game tells you what your damage is like, and how can you improve it if you can't see it in the first place? Without a damage meter, a mage auto-firing a wand could darn well believe he's doing top DPS. While I caution you not to develop damage meter tunnel vision, you should have an idea of your numbers in the first place.

  1. Don't buy anything from the auction house. The auction house is an awesome location of player-vs.-player combat, with the perfectly fair goal of robbing you as blind as possible. If you can avoid buying anything from the auction house, avoid it. In a single phrase, "There be dragons here."

WoW's economy is inhabited by a class of players who want nothing more than to make as much money with as little work as possible. That's the dream, anyway, and it's fair. To accomplish that natural goal, professional AH players ratchet the prices on everything as high as possible. They seek to dominate the market and make everything as expensive as possible. Gaming the auction house isn't cheating or anything like that, but it doesn't gel well with your casual or newbie playstyle. Sell your stuff on the auction house, but avoid buying from it unless you absolutely must. Even then, make sure the item you want is worth spending money on.

  1. Don't enchant items you'll replace soon. If you're leveling a new character to the endgame, it can be tempting to spend a bunch of cash on every single blue and green drop that you equip. Don't do it; you'll be replacing that sucker soon enough, and there's no reason to feed that cash to the AH monster.

At this point, even purple gear at item level 359 should be considered suspect. Take the time to check out what gear you'll get from Molten Front dailies and valor points. All that stuff is probably worth the cash to enchant, but anything with a lower ilevel is dubious.

Caveat: All bets are off if you're wearing those blue and green items into a raid. Work with your raid group about that stuff.

  1. Grab a partner. Guilds are like big families who kill bosses together, laugh together, and wipe together. But unless you're tearing up the progression charts, you'll probably still need to run a few heroic dungeons each week to max out your valor points.

It helps to have partner when you're doing these dungeons. Even if both of you are DPS (and thus still get long queue times), then you'll benefit from simply having a friendly face in the PUG. A partner adds a bit of comfort to the PUG and will hopefully make things go faster.

  1. Get some addons. Addons are an obvious go-to method for improving your gameplay, but you'd be surprised how little documentation exists about them inside the game. Essentially, addons allow you to customize your game, change the UI, and otherwise tackle difficult tasks a little more easily. Addons can do many, many different things, so you'll have to experiment and explore. Addon Spotlight is a good place to start. As a note, I'd caution you not get too reliant on addons and let your skills atrophy; addons are useful, but don't let them become a crutch.

College student without a tv help. Using a laptop as a monitor for an xbox one

Hi all, I've never used this sub so let me know if I need to move this post somewhere else. I am a college student without a TV and I'd like to bust out my Xbox One in my downtime. I have a Lenovo Yoga 720 and I'm wondering if there's a way to use my laptop as a makeshift TV for an Xbox One. Is there a cable or adapter i can use? Thanks!

New to Handbrake, question about presets

So, I finally got around to getting Handbrake and ripped a few DVDs, currently can't do Blu-Ray with my PC. My main question is, what preset should I be using? Fast 1080p30? 720? Very Fast? HQ? I then see presets for Xbox, Firestick, Chromecast, etc. While we mainly watch stuff on our Firestick, and I'm using Plex and have a 5.1 surround sound system. Basically, feeling a bit overwhelmed by my choices and looking for some basic tips before spending hours and hours ripping. Thanks.

JCRocky softmod freezing with Splinter Cell

Hey XBOX community, I’m having a known problem, yet disabling the video options did not work for me. I disabled both 480p and 720p and I still freeze in splinter cell at the “checkpoints/levels” screen. I’m gonna try composite cable next and see if that will help. Any other suggestions? Thank you.

UPDATE: Fixed it. I went back in and ONLY put the SplinterCellNTSC save data and the Softmod save data on the usb memory. I used xboxExplorer and dragged/dropped those two files over. I also did this with ONLY a composite cable, which disables the 480/720/1080 settings which some thought could cause the issue. The only reason I had all of the save game files from UDATA on the stick at the same time was because all of the tutorials I watched copied them all over. Anyway, I'm now softmodded (tested with backup of DOA3 on burnt DVD) and now to start installing apps and emulators. Thanks to those who replied and thanks to JCRocky5!

COD BLACK OPS 3 TIP DISCOVERED BY ACCIDENT

To get better FPS I switched to 720p because I figured lowering the rez would help. By accident I clicked window mode instead of full screen.

Running COD Black Ops 3 on my 1080 monitor in a 720 window made all the difference in the world. Playing in a window doesnt bother me and it is like playing on a xbox or ps4 in the room with me.

Dont know why it makes a difference but it really does

Narrowing down my choice of a new laptop

  • Total budget and country of purchase: USA, trying to keep it under around 1k plus or minus some.
  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Must be 2 in 1, touch screen.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? not terribly important, some preference to the thin
  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13 inches
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Some light sketching with a pen potentially, as a hobby, not work related. Some gaming from the windows store (Froza and other Xbox Play Anywhere titles). I will also do some PDF markups.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want to run. Forza, The Witcher, etc... nothing to demanding, I'm not overly picky about my graphics and trust my current options will suffice. Gaming is not make-or-break, just a plus.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Touch screen a must, ability to fold in half to tablet mode or screen detach to tablet mode a must.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I'm looking at a 13" surface book 2, a surface pro (either the new 6, or a slightly used 4/5, there's a few that companies in the area listed that were just used for demos and are in great condition for around $500). I've also taken notice to the HP Spectre X360, Lenovo Yoga 720 of the Yogabook. I want this laptop to last for awhile, one of my concerns with the surface pro's is the lack of thunderbolt 3 and USBC - though I'm told there is a USBC adapter. I'm not even sure if I will need USB-C, but it sounds like I might in the future and I want to future-proof. I'll hightlight that the gaming ability is a nice perk but won't be extensively used, not something I would miss if not possible on a Surface Pro. I'm leaning towards snagging a good used Surface pro 4/5 - and then selling/upgrading to a new one when the next comes of if necessary.

Thanks in advance!

Acer Swift 3 with MX150 AND upgradable RAM

Can someone please help me track this down?

I’m pretty sure it exists but I’m having a really hard time sifting through all of the different generations and configs.

Thanks in advance! I’m in the US if that matters.

  • Total budget and country of purchase: Hard cap at $1000 USD

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Focus on best specs but I also definitely value battery life.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not super important. Definitely planning on lugging it around quite a bit though. So compactness is nice.

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14 or 15

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I play most of my games on Xbox because of my friends. But I would definitely like to have the ability to play random Non AAA titles on my laptop if I ever wanted to.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? As I mentioned, not sure what kind of games. Most likely less demanding indie games. So low settings and 60FPS would be great.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build quality. I want it to feel nice and not cheap.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. As the title suggests, I’ve been eyeing that Acer Swift 3 but I’m of course willing to look elsewhere. I haven’t been looking for too long.

I really just wanting this thing for casual everyday use (Web browsing, Microsoft office, and maybe Logic Pro X) and occasional work with large spreadsheets. Really just want to be able to juggle multiple apps at once with no issues.

I’ve also had my eye on the Lenovo Yoga 720 and the ASUS VivoBook S.

Thanks!

Splitter puzzle: 720p Quadsplit for quad TV's in the back of a Mutant Vehicle.

Hey y'all. Got a kind of weird query today and am looking for ideas!

The problem

I have four 38" TV's that are identical and in square quad configuration. I'm looking for a way to cheaply split a signal from an Xbox 360 or Xbox One (Playing Halo: CE Classic) into the 4 TV's, efficiently having each TV dedicated to a players view.

Now I can do this in an expensive way as I have 3 ATEMs at my house and a whole wall of random video gear but the catch is that this quadsplit is going to live as a dedicated installation inside of my Mutant Vehicle (AKA Art Car).

Not trying to promote but here is some visual context of the vehicle: www.rynobus.com (scroll down for interior shots, the back wall is the one with the screens. 22 other screens are being added as well but that is under control)

Cheap Solutions?

So I'm not finding a whole lot online (in the sub $500 range, there are many fun Video Devices / BMD gear that would work, just not cost effective) to where I can get a quad out of a single 720 signal from an Xbox. Anyone know of any hardware I may have overlooked? Right now the new Blackmagic Multiview 4 HD ($185) seems ok but requires 4 HDMI/SDI shakers to get everything into SDI on the box, making it tricky.

Thanks!

I just got the hd60s and I have it hooked to my Xbox and my Asus g74s laptop. But it only gives picture if I set my Xbox display to 720...when I change it to 1080 it gives me a black screen. No clue how to fix this, can anyone help?

Looking to spend less than $500 for programming

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

  • Web development(mainly the wordpress site in chrome or in visual studio code), Microsoft SQL server, Visual studio, GIMP, etc. Will also want to be open to other coding languages programs. I might play some light gaming like CS:GO but I have an xbox one so programming is very important. I basically want this rig to work for whatever programming needs I might have.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

  • Preferably under $500 USD after tax.

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

  • ASAP, faster shipping is a bonus.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

  • Tower

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

  • Missouri, USA. No Microcenter.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

  • Keyboard, mouse, monitor, OS.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

  • Probably not.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

  • SSD and RAM are pretty important for running IDEs and lots of chrome tabs at the same time.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

  • A smaller form factor would be nice but saving money is more important.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

  • No

Extra info or particulars:

  • I have a dog and cat that shed a lot so a good airflow system might be good to prevent accumulation in there. I'm also open to preowned parts if bought from a reputable source(I do not trust my local craigslist at all so I'm avoiding that).

  • I'm open to a prebuilt if there is a good deal. I'm not worried at all about upgradability because I will have a much larger budget in the Fall when I start a "real" job.

  • I also am currently using a lenovo yoga 720 w/ an i5 8th gen, 8gb of ram, intel hd graphics. I am getting this desktop to avoid the hassle of hooking my laptop up and would prefer if this build is a lot stronger than my laptop to help justify this.

Xbox 720?

So, in just maybe one more year, the generation has brought out a new Xbox. We haven't seen any games yet to relate if this theory is actually true or a coincidence. Let's just bet by the end of 2019, advertisements are going to show what games will be aired for the new Xbox. Why do you think there should be an Xbox 720? Or why do gaming producers want this idea to come true?

Console FPS

I play on xbox one, i know in the settings you can change the display from 1080 to 720.

would this in anyway help with the annoying fps drops during late game pop up cups??
