So Microsoft owns Obsidian, acquired presumably as part of its strategy to get its mojo back after a lack of first party titles leading to a lack of console sales, etc.
However, Obsidian’s major new IP (which looks really awesome in my opinion), is multi-platform, not an Xbox exclusive. Is this because the game development preceded the acquisition, and there are contractual obligations around multiple platforms, and MS has to just eat it?
Or, given Sony’s massive install base, is Microsoft choosing to allow it, for revenue, or more interestingly, as a first hit of what will someday help drive console sales as an exclusive AAA franchise (or multiple franchises given Obsidian’s other great IPs).
I’m of course, just speculating, but it occurred to me and I wondered if anyone had some insights to share. If the game is good, I’d buy an Xbox 720 or TWO, or whatever the hell it will be called.
