Is 1440p the best high resolution for retro gaming on modern Screens?

Linear scaling IE scaling by a full unit produces the best picture quality when using upscalers or even the built in scalers on the Monitors. 4K aka 2160p while being a multiple of 1080, 720 and 240 may seem like a better option however it is not a multiple of 480 which was common in the PS2 / XBox / GameCube era. 1440 is a multiple of all the common retro resolutions 240, 480, and 720. While not a multiple of 1080 it was rarely used in games even during the PS4 / Xbox One generation with many using 720p or 960p rendering. So for the best quality without cropping or black bars 1440p may be the best resolution to shoot for rather than 4K. What are your thoughts, experiences and suggestions?
