I have both a Gamecube and an original Xbox both with OEM component cables. I also have a framemeister but feel its unnecessary to run these devices through it as they output (for the most part) in 480p (and sometimes 720p in the case of the Xbox). The scaler in a 4K tv can handle that signal and perhaps even upscale to satisfying levels. The problem is most newer tvs don't have component inputs. I have one such tv that does but its a 43" Sony used in the bedroom. I'm in the process of building out a game room (where at least 8 retro consoles, including the two mentioned will be connected) and would like to use a 4K TV, preferably something in the 55-65" range. Before suggesting a CRT/PVM, I don't want two TVs and two of the newer consoles are a PS3 and Wii U. Plus when the next iterations of the Playstation and Nintendo come out, the PS4 and Switch will migrate into this room.
Has anyone used either this or this or this? Do they work? The reviews on Amazon seem hit or miss I just want simple passthrough - no scaling. Or should I look for a larger 4K tv with component input?
I know this question has been asked before but reading through the responses I didn't find the topic addressed. Thanks.
TL;DR - do the component to HDMI converters work? I don't need scaling - just passthrough. Any experience with them?
