Can you tell me why transcode works better?

I use a decent pc as my server stream to fire stick, mobile apps and Xbox.

When steaming (same network) to Xbox it can be a bit unstable unless I turn off direct play and direct stream, basically transcode seems more stable and normally works perfectly up to 720p formats.

Can you tell me why this may be? I thought it might be my internal network speed? I use powerline for wired connection which is slower than my wireless according to speed tests but for internal network speed seems 100% more stable. These I've been recently upgraded to 500mbps modules.

There's a strong chance my understanding is not that great but I think I've explained as well as I can.
