So I used to play fighting games, and I've chosen to get back into them for DBFZ. When Xbox beta went down, I was disappointed. But when life gives you lemons...
I just spent five and a half hours playing trial mode. During that time, I learned bread and butters for all 10 characters, vanish combos, snapback combos, combos starting from a low, combos starting from a jump attack, assist usage, etc.
Yeah, it sucked that we didn't get online play, and you can bet I cancelled my Xbox preorder (my friends were going to play on PC anyway). But hey, this really wasn't that bad.
I know I want to use a team of Piccolo Gohan Vegeta at least to start (though I will still try out every other character), even though I didn't get all three together (only a 9/720 chance of that happening). The only thing I wish I could have worked on was punishing the dash attack, but the trial computer never did that.
I basically skipped a huge portion of day one training mode to learn combos like 2M 5M JL JM J2H JL JM JH Van 236B 214H 236LM with Piccolo. For some, that comes naturally. But I'm not that good at fighting games, and I know practice mode is needed.
This was a way better option than having a non-functional online mode once again. I completely ignored my Xbox over the weekend when that happened, only trying online matches again on the last day. I was doing really poor stuff and BS'd wins by punishing recoveries and things like that. Now I actually feel somewhat confident in being able to pull off something respectable come Jan. 26.
To all those who were upset that Xbox didn't have online play, I completely understand. Some things will be worked on over the next few days. But having worked on a development project, I can tell you they're likely working their butts off to get it all fixed, with higher-ups likely breathing down their necks. So hang in there.
