4K TV with HDR Processor for Xbox One X – Are these additional tech specs worth the extra money?

Hello Redditors!

I just received an Xbox One X for Christmas and am looking for some advice on these specific features that I've been seeing on every TV brand out there. I know to look for things such as:

  • True 4K (Native Resolution: 3840×2160)
  • HDR Capability
  • Response Time of 1-6ms
  • HDMI 2.0
  • Refresh Rate >= 60Hz

However, there are so many extra little things that are thrown into newer models of TVs nowadays that I'm not sure if these added features are money grabs or if they actually make a huge difference when it comes to visuals and performance.

One example is the Sony X720E vs the X900E series: Sony XE Comparison on Amazon

The two models have a huge price difference of $800 for the X720E vs $1200 for the X900E.

The X900E boasts additional specs such as:

  • Full-array Local Dimming
  • Super Bit Mapping
  • 4K HDR X1 (Processor)
  • Native 120 Hz

What caught my attention was the Super Bit Mapping capabilities, as well as the even more important-sounding 4K HDR X1 Processor. I just assumed that a 4K TV with HDR capabilities would be enough to handle 4K gaming and movies with my Xbox One X; however, now I am second guessing myself. Perhaps my new 4K TV requires a 4K HDR Processor...?

I am so lost and confused. If anyone could shine some light on this topic, as well as what is actually required for an Xbox One X to function comfortably, it would be very much appreciated!

Thank you so much in advance!
