I'm having a strange frame rate issue in games that are developed in Unreal Engine. I can look around with a mouse fine, but as soon as I hit any key on the keyboard (doesn't need to serve a function in-game), my frame rate drops to <1-5 (I've had it freeze for several seconds before moving to the next frame). Naturally, I've made sure all of my drivers are up to date, and I've rebooted my PC. I also scaled down all of the graphics settings, but the issue persists. I would have simply sent this post to the Paragon sub (the game I initially noticed this in) but the problem also appears in both Fortnite and Unreal Tournament, but not games like Warframe (made in the Evolution engine).
The issue does not appear when using an xbox controller. The issue still happens when using a USB keyboard. It's clearly something to do with how Unreal is handling input from my setup. The problem also appears in-engine while editing scenes, and testing games.
Admittedly, my setup is on a simple laptop (Core i7, AMD R7 M440 4 GB VRAM, 16GB RAM), but I've been able to run UE games on low and 720p at a solid 30 FPS for months.
Epic support simply suggested submitting an in-game bug and trying a different keyboard.
A few more observations: I don't have much of a time frame for this because the issue appeared when I logged on for the first time in a few months.
I'm sorry if this was the wrong place to post this. If so, please direct me to a better place. Thanks!
