At the moment I have a 19" Toshiba flatscreen 720p LCD TV, with the following consoles connected:
- PS1 via RGB SCART
- Dreamcast via VGA
- PS2 via component (to VGA adapter)
- Xbox via component (to VGA adapter)
- PS3 via HDMI
I'm looking to get a CRT to play these systems on but need some help. I'm not sure if all CRTs would have all these inputs. I used to have a Trinitron once and it only had a SCART and RF.
I care a lot about progressive scan (I even specifically imported some NTSC PS2 games that support 480p when the PAL doesn't). But if a CRT I get doesn't have native component input I'll miss out on progressive scan and I'll have to downgrade to RGB 480i max for the PS2 and Xbox. I'm also unsure if there were many CRTs with VGA, meaning I'll have to downgrade the Dreamcast to RGB too. And I really don't know if there were CRTs with HDMI, meaning I'll have to downgrade the PS3 cables to RGB too.
These would pretty much defeat my efforts on getting the best possible cables for each system on my LCD (with only the PS1 benefiting). But there are also some people who say progressive scan isn't noticable on a CRT - is this true? It seems Sony BVMs are top-notch quality and have many inputs, but they're pricey so am looking for a standard CRT for now. I'm also unsure about what size display is the best. Anyone help?
