Need a little bit of help diagnosing a display issue.

So new reason to dust off the wii u, just released.

Anyway previously I had a home theater receiver with multiple hdmi inputs so it only takes up one slot on your TV. The wiiu looked great and crisp. However since it was my brother's he took it when he left. So I had its now plugged in directly to the TV. Except now it looks incredibly blurry, it looks like <720p badly stretched. And I mean menus and not the games, so it's not about graphics. It looks so bad that the gamepad displays text sharper than the TV. It's a problem with the output signal. I've tried various hdmi cables and none affect it.

I plugged it into my PC monitor and it looks crisp just like it did when it was going through the home theater receiver hdmi pass through.

So on a hunch I plugged it into my Xbox one hdmi input just to see what would happen. Lo and behold, the image was crisp again. However I don't want to have multiple consoles on sucking power to just work as an hdmi pass through.

I messed with every setting on the TV to see if some sort of weird scaling is being done but no success. Also another strange thing. On wiiu plugged into TV, I can change the output settings from 720p 1080i 1080p with no difference. They all look <720p. I've searched all over Google and found nobody with my issue, as they all seemed to be about not all wiiu games running at 1080p.

I'd greatly appreciate any help. Thank you.
